View Full Version : 2006 SECCS Hoodie!

Okay, I finally took some time last night to start working on a design for next year's hoodie.
My goal is something much more subtle and simple than the 2005 design. I'm gonna try yet again to get them in a dark charcoal color, but the last two attempts have failed, so it will probably just end up black, unless everyone would rather a different color, like tan or red, or who knows.
I'm not totally sure how this design would be used on the hoodie yet. I'm thinking the full drawing as you see it on the back, and just the "SECCS" part on the front.
I also haven't thought about the sleeves. I think I could come up with something cool for the sleeves, but screening the front, back, and sleeves will be pretty expensive... although we're saving a little by not having a ton of colors like the last design.
Let me know what ya'll think!

Looking good.
I think the red logo and white pistons would look good on a dark color. Or perhaps tan with black lettering and black pistons. I dunno, though. I think I'd prefer the charcoal myself.

I like the charcoal idea as well. I'm indifferent when it comes to sceening on the sleeves. I like a well designed, but simple sweatshirt.

I like that logo. I've always been weird about logos on the back of hoodies, but I could see it working. I dig the original "cruising sleeve" from the first hoodies...
I'd vote for charcoal, or a totally different color, since we already did black SECCS gear and blue SRIC hoodies.
I actually really like the red hoodie idea....but think it would work better with the full logo in just black and white on the front, then black and white SECCS on the back or the sleeve.
The logo is pimp, it's a more old-school hot-rod club shirt vibe.

I would also vote for a charcoal. But I'd also liike a deep red maybe even maroon. Or a British Racing Green.
I think the logo on the front is the best. I'd think it would be cool to have the SECCS part on the back but on the lower portion of the back near the bottom.

Dunno about the name on the lower back, that always screams out "thug life" to me.

Oh yeah. Scott in the morning, especially :p
I'd vote for that logo embroidered on most anything but a hoodie... I think the original mountain logo would look good embroidered as well. Only do the red and white on whatever in about a 4"x2" space on a button down, or polo...
Anybody second that motion?

RED!!!!! As much as I hate the red team, a Red hoodie would win for me.

Maroon would be sick.
I'm gonna have to agree w/ JC. Even though I think red would look better from an "artistic" standpoint, I don't know that I'd wear a bright red hoodie all that often. A darker maroon hoodie... much more wearable.

As far as the design goes, I'm torn between voting for a) pistons on the back with SECCS on the front, or b) pistons on the front with SECCS down the sleeves. I'd wear either :)

I'd go for Maroon, with the pistons in grey or black (with the outlines in a contrasting color). I'd rather have the main logo on the front as well. On the back it has to be lower than the hood, which is kinda gangsta.

Am I missing something with the lower placement on the back, having some kind of boyz in da hood reference.
This calls for a GIS. Be right back.

The SRIC hoodie has a *large* logo on the back of the hoodie, and surprisingly, it's not really obscured by the hood. Logos on the back can be done just fine w/o placing them down at the bottom.

I love the line work in the piston image, but I'm kind of torn with the skinny text for the logo. I really like some thickness to it. It's what I used to seeing... unless we are planning to change up the design of that.
I think we should have a chocolate hoodie. Or charcoal hoodie would be awesome too if it were possible. If not I'd prefer a darker color one, although I'm not against a bold color hoodie.
I agree with Aaron on the sleeves, both arms is too much. I really like just the cruising arm. I think it would be cool to have a stripe the same style as the striping on the coupe at S-squared. If you think that would work with your design.
edit: Regarding the placement of the logo, I trust your judgement, but have you though about a less traditional location. Like perhaps on one side of edge of the hood (in reference to the pistons image). Or perhaps the logo as kind of washed out background image. Alpinestars website has some interesting designs. http://www.alpinestars.com/pl/c/8.html Also a lot of skateboard company's have interesting placement for they're logos. I don't know if this is appropriate to your design intent, but I just figured I'd throw it out there.
I really like were this is going and I look forward to seeing the progression.
BTW:

How about dark brown hoodies.
We should get the color catalog from Dave and pick something. I think a brown-ish red would be cool... Something that's maroon w/o being too purple.
In keeping with the blue-print theme, here's what I'm working on for the back... I haven't gotten to the rear suspension bits yet (control arms, struts, diff sub-frame), but the front and the drive-train are pretty much there, unless I try to cram the engine internals in there or something.

Sweet deal.
Nice design. I really like that color combination, and the seccs logo in that color 'pops'.
I do still like the idea of getting something in an embroidery finish, like Dean mentioned earlier -- and Nick (Truckee), didn't you say if your wife can get an electronic version of the logo, she has a sewing machine that can do that? I think we should pursue ....

I haven't settled on the lettering yet... the thin letters better match the whole blue-print style, but I wouldn't want them to be used for stickers and the like, so I'm not sure if it should go on the hoodie that way...
I'm still working on the design... I'll probably have another revision by the end of the week for ya'll to comment on!

Charcoal is good, not sure bout red! burgundy is ok! I like the logo as printed in the first post. seccs on the right arm would be good with some thickness in the lettering. not sure white lettering would be good with red seems kinda 80's.Black is way common and fades to easily over time but will hide the grease stains for some of those guys that have cars that leak a little! Just my 2 cents!

Hey if you let me know the poundage on the sweatshirt(hoodie) my sister owns her own business, mostly silkscreening, but she does do embroidery as well. We also had our Cal Ripken League Sweatshirts done here for about 20 per, but that was silkscreened in one color and it was only a bit more for two, so embroidery will be just a bit higher than that. I already have some connections in the rag industry, just let me know. Oh and I vote for SEDONA RED! hahahah

Insomnia can have benifits... behold the latest revision of the 2006 hoodie design!
I'm pretty sick of looking at it and playing with colors, to the point that I've got no clue what looks decent anymore, so input on colors and basic layout stuff is appreciated.
The pistons go on the front breast pocket area, the 22B is on the back, and the turbo/logo is on the sleeve. The SECCS logos aren't intended to be in all 3 locations, it'll probably stick around only on the sleeve, but they're in all 3 locations for now. Also, the I'm not sure if the extra grid lines should stay or not.
I think it looks really good, I like the gridlines. I even think the SECCS in all three spots would be ok. Maybe move the 22B so it doesn't overlap though.

2005-11-26, 07:47 AM

I really like the 22b design. Will the screen printer be able to get all the detail in that picture?
sti deede
2005-11-26, 08:48 AM
Great work Scott! The shirt really feels like a blueprint design, but I'm not sure about the gridlines though. They don't appear to reference to anything. Usually gridlines are used for layout, but I'm missing the connection. I would really like to see them, but align them with the edges of objects or at recognisible transitions. Right now they make the image look messy, because my mind keeps trying to apply them to something.
I really like the color choice, so no comments there.
I'd be weary of the fine detail of the 22b showing up. I remember that alot of the detail work on the SRIC rally car image didn't show up. Not sure how you can insure this, but I'd hate to see the fine lines disappear.
Again I really like the concept and I think that the little logos are great. I think that the text should go on 2 locations max. (I know your still playing with that just wanted to give you my input.)
Thanks again for all your hardwork Scott, can wait to get the final product! :D

I love the colors very indie music labelish.

2005-11-26, 10:29 AM
The gridlines are random, placed similarly to the way I'd crosshatch a drawing just to "balance" it, and not as reference lines to anything else in the drawing. They're not meant to look like part of the blueprint, they're just there to busy up the drawing. I'm still pretty undecided about keeping them or changing them.
There isn't a single line anywhere in the artwork that's less than one point thick. Theoreticallly the screen printer should have no problem with the image, unless there are spots where the lines are so close together that they blend into a single line, which won't really be an issue. The detail that Deede mentioned on the SRIC design was significantly smaller than the details in this design, so I'm not too worried.
The colors seem to be okay with everyone, but I'm still not sure about light blue on maroon. The maroon was picked by popular choice earlier in this thread, and the blue was from the simple "let's make it look like a blueprint" decision. There was no real consideration about how they look with each other. Does anyone have some suggestions for alternate color schemes they'd like to see? I'm a little worried that we won't be able to see the white and very-light-blue on top of the light-blue background. We may need a higher contrast alternative color scheme.
As far as kids sizes... there shouldn't be a problem ordering a few very small sizes, as long as the design fits. I don't want to make consessions that will make the adult sizes look funny because we want to make sure that the screens fit on a kid's medium. Perhaps we can do some kids versions w/o the large back image and just put the turbo on the back or something...
Thanks everyone! Keep the feedback coming!

You did a hella good job. It's hard working on a design by yourself because after a while of looking at it, it just looks horrible. But no, not this. Only thing I would suggest is that if you put the url, put it on the back bottom maybe? Just not the sleeve because it's a lot of letters and it would be harder to read on a sleeve.

My goal is to have these things printed up in time for Christmas, but we're way behind schedule, so once the new thread is up, please respond quickly so we can get a sense of the number and sizes we need to order.

Cool. I put it in the order thread, but thought I'd add this here...
Can we pretty please offer the model 12000 (without hood) for the older and/or no-need for a hood crowd?

In order to make it financially viable for a second run, it looks like we'd need like 30 or more hoodies. I don't think that's very likely... :( Sorry to anyone that got caught out. We'll look into doing some t-shirts in the spring rather than waiting a full year for another batch of hoodies like we normally do.

Start a tally.
My wife already took mine for her own so I would be happy to have another.
I think you could get 30 orders prettty quick.
l XL Please if there should be a reorder.
