This is pretty gnarly... it's got camcorder footage from just a couple hundred feet away from the point of impact, crazy stuff. I know there have been several big Russian fighter crashes at airshows, but I had never seen this particular one before.

I've seen that before, but never from so many angles. That's intense.

That's crazy. How do you say "Are you asking too much" in dead russian?

So, what's the deal w/ all the Su-27 airshow crashes?

The plane is supposed to be insanely capable... are the pilots just such cowboys that they take unnecessary risks at low altitude all the time, and eventually get caught w/o enough altitude? Is there a flaw in the plane that it stalls out unexpectedly on occation (it seems like just about all the wrecks are low speed manuvers)? Are the pilots just not trained enough that they try a split-S at 1000AGL?

All I know is that pilot's last words were:

"I got this bitch... NYET!!"

 :(

Maybe the pilots put too much faith in the handling capabilities of the plane they are flying? They just think it can do everything they want (and it can, in most circumstances) and then when it can't it's too late? Hummmm...

"I got this bitch... NYET!!"

It's good to see my infamous phrase getting used by other dumb-asses worldwide

There were several dozen people killed from that crash too.. it went straight into the crowd. From what I read there were several factors that contributed, including:

Manuevers were not performed properly (it looks like he came out of his loop at too low an altitude) - pilot error
Aircraft was overladen with fuel - again pretty much pilot error since he didn't adjust his manuevers in accordance with the fuel load onboard
Improper flight plan
Failure to stay outside of crowd zones during manuevering
In the second camera angle you can see that once he rolls out of the loop he is totally fucked, and knows it too. You can see the vapor coming off the top of the plane because he is pulling as hard as he can but it's too late at that point. He lost way too much altitude during the roll.

Wow. Pilot error big time. Couldn't tell if he was on the throttle once the stall was initiated...

At counter time 1:11-1:13 you can see a chute in the air. I wonder if the crowd let him live.
