I was out at Alpine this morning and took a few shots.

The base out there is still 20 feet deep.

The unfortunate cropping on the shots is my Nikon lens cover is stuck. Time for a new camera.

How much longer will Alpine be open? I've never done much spring boarding. How is it?

Alpine is open until May 21st. Lifts run from 8:00 am until 1:00 pm. The morning is usually really fast, by 9:00 all the east slopes are perfect corn snow. As the morning goes by the south slopes get really nice. By noon it is the north slopes that have softened up. After 1:00 it is beer:30!

This is actually my favorite time of year to ski. The steeps are especially fun.

Those trees were snapped like twigs from an avalanche earlier in the season.

Is that the avalanche that burried a girl (she lived)?

Not sure on that one. This one was about 500 yards past the ski are boundary just above the Sherwood lift. Judging by the force and length of this slide, I can't imagine anyone living through this. It slid from the top cornice which is about 800 vertical feet above this area. This is definately an area to have transponders and other people with you after a fresh snow fall.

I'll be out there this Sunday if anyone would like a little tour of this area? While the scenery at times is a little sketchy and a couple small challenges on the way, for the most part it is fairly mellow skiing.

I think it was about 3 weeks ago...I saw it in the news.

There were a ton of slides from that storm, so who knows. It is very stable right now.
