I just talked to the owner tonight of the Buffalo Wild Wings in the Summit Mall about us meeting there on thursday nights. He was totally all for the idea. He would be willing to basically rope off an entire section for us along with plug us into the large projectors. I told him that we all just needed a central one to see and he said he would put Rally on multiple big screens for us around where we were sitting, so everyone could have an unobstructed view. They have a good selection of food (Its not all hot wings) and here is the link to the website.
http://www.buffalowildwings.com

Let me know what you guys think, he wants me to stop back in on monday durring the day and have a chat with him. I have menus that I will be bringing to the next meet also if anyone doesn;t get a chance to check out the website.

Are we all talking about the same place at the Summit mall?

'Cause I went there Friday night to check it out with Lisa... and we were less than impressed... so much so we left and went elsewhere. The place seemed small, the selection of food seemed pretty limited, and the place was packed with rugrats (but it was Friday evening).

I'm all for giving it a shot, but I'm worried that we'll end up trying to cram 20 people around 3 little tables. The way it's laid out, we'd need them to rope off more than half the place to accommodate us when we have large summer meets of 20 to 30 people.

I can't remember all the places there... but it's in the Summit Mall on the corner of S. Virginia and Mt. Rose Highway. There's an overpriced Italian place and an other restaurant (BJs?) that it shares a parking lot with.

Nick Koan

I think they have like one hunting game or something lame.... no arcade. :( But they do have electronic trivia and poker type stuff at each table. I'm not sure if there's really enough to keep 'em entertained, but you can probably bring 'em out once and see if they like/hate it.

We went in a little early (cause it was cold) and they had another big party in that rear area that was supposed to be done about 7:30. We ended up hanging out for like half an hour or so for the tables.

But then they gave us three free appetizer platters and some free beer.

What they should have done was tell them, "We've got room for your team, but the tables are reserved at 7:30, will you need the tables for longer than that?"

...i.e. they could have been up-front about our 7:30 reservations, rather than hope they'd leave in time and have to kick them out or make us wait if they're not.

Also, I talked to the acting manager last night and she ensured us that they'd work out "real" reservations for us to make sure the tables are available, and I told her that 7pm would probably be better than 7:30pm for the tables, so we might want to start showing up before 7 if we want to bullshit in the parking lot for more than a few minutes before going in.

True enough. It would appear that this was not the case. Perhaps we should have walked down to the Western Grill place. Or whatever that other restaurant is called.

IMO, if you have 25 members of a High School sports team in your restaurant, I would cater more to them then a random group of car enthusiasts like us. Our groups seem to range from around 30 to maybe 10 people on occasion.

Now, each of those 25-30 members of a sports team have other teams as friends, i.e. Softball and Soccer. These teams also have the respective families to contend with. If the restaurant gains a bad reputation with one of the teams, or even the coaches for that, then I could see a trickle down effect that would cause most of the school and everyone who is associated with these teams to not want to come to the restaurant. Correct me if my since of business and human behavior is wrong.

Now, our group of enthusiasts, I can't imagine us to have that big of an affect.

Surprisingly, there are only 2 Cal High's in CA... one in San Ramon, and another one down in LA somewhere IIRC.

What's that?

Matt you play/ed hockey? That's awesome. I play both but the closest ice rink is Tahoe so I don't play ice that much. During my 4 years playing for the school we only lost once in the high school league, to Reed. But I think that's because we didn't want get the Aids.

Ok, I admit it, I laughed.

The rumor when I was in hikes school that they had the highest percentage of kids with Aids in the area. And I didn't just hear this from Carson kids, it was from a lot of people. Of course it could have been one kid or even 20 kids that somebody found out had it, and it just got "telephoned" to a lot more or something.

Blood yes, but you have to drink like 5 gallons of an infected person's saliva to be at risk of catching HIV/AIDS.

that's a lot, even for hockey...

Hockey used to be my life. Then I stopped playing as much, started working, got a fast car, and now I don;t play much at all. Once the rink closed, it all went to hell.

"CHS"? That's where I went... California High School in San Ramon, class of '95. Ugh, I feel old... where's Dean and Knucklesplitter when I need to feel young?

Nice...

Thanks...

Fort Hunt High School class of... '84. Hell, that place has been closed down for 20 years. Well, converted to a middle school.

Virginia Tech ME class of '88 too. :(

I still try to play as much as possible. Luckily the leagues are always hurting for goalies so I get to play a lot.

Sorry for offtopixing the thread! Here, I think I will actually get the wings this time.

No thanks. The food is too expensive, tastes tired, and the place to too far away.

The wings place is making an effort to keep our business, and unless everyone wants to go back to Bully's I think we stick it out there until we find somewhere else that's better.

Closer to you maybe.

I am just voting to go back to Bully's.

I'm with CORY...

I'ma talk to them next time I go, (likely this weekend) and see what they say about me bringing 25 of my friends in on the occasional Thrusday. It's been said by a few that they'd prob. get tired of the menu there as well, as it's no more diverse than BWW, but it'd be a good place to go from time to time at least, IMO.

Did $10 fill you up? 'Cause it costs me $20 at Bully's for a burger, drink, and salad.

The food at BWW isn't "better" than Bully's, in fact I'm not all that impressed... but I've only eaten at BWW three times ever, compared to the HUNDREDS of times I've eaten at Bully's.

I fully expect people to tire of BWW quickly. Same deal over at Joe Bob's. But I'm not interested in going back to Bully's. We've been over there way too long. And yes, this place is closer "for me", but also for the Carson folks, and the bunch of people that live on the south end of town. After two years of trekking up to Robb, I don't think it's too much to ask to try to find a place in the south for a while.

So, instead of arguing about what's better between two places that aren't good enough, how about trying to find somewhere else? What about Tamarak? They've got a back room, but it would probably cost us money to rent. But they also host a lot of meetings, so they probably have their shit together as far as handling a group. The sports bar there has TV's and pretty good bar food (their pizza rocks), but I think you can also order off the restaurant's menu IIRC. Is anyone interested in finding out if they'd be willing to host us in the sports bar area Thursday nights?

I'd be interested in Tamarack.

I'm down to try anyplace that is a reasonable suggestion. I don't have many myself, simply because I don't frequent the "sports bar" scene, that would be a good place for our meet.

I remember suggesting the Tamrack, but I think we were worried about issues with the minors in the group. We should check to see if it'd be an issue or not.

Cory and I spoke to a manager at Joe Bobs tonight, and he said they would be more than willing to provide space for us on Thursdays. Thursdays is one of their slow nights. We're going to call the GM on Monday, they mentioned maybe giving us a group discount.

And I must say their wings are so much better than BWW.

Eh, even if we don't do Joe Bob's EVERY week, I think it's a viable option for whenever we want a change and nobody has any better ideas. The manager gave me the phone number and name of the week day manager, and said that we could pretty much give a call on Thursday afternoon, and they'd be ready for us by 7 the same day, no problem.

He actually sounded pretty excited about the idea!
