Anybody looking to make changes to there rides prior to events 2&3? How will the next events look without the Sac ringers? Can Dean make an impression on the SM class and will Mike get back on track and out of the van?

Rumor has it SM is moving to Blue group, probably permanently, depending on the way the next event shakes down.

Well, considering those Green and Blue run in different halves of the day next event, that doesn't really work.

What's up with Mike's car? He got a FP Red right?

My car's setup nicely. I could replace the KYB AGX's with Koni's or some other more aggressive struts, but I'll wait until the AGX's die.

Nick, you getting Protuned?

True. Which is why we're going to look at the numbers at the next event and figure out if SM needs to be permanently moved, then send out said notice. At the school/R1 we were way lopsided, and moved ESP, but looking longer term it seems moving SM would be the better choice, partially because most the people in SM are all-day-ers.

Nick Koan
2007-04-23, 10:18 AM

NevadaSTi
2007-04-24, 02:12 PM
Why would they go to the pro class?

Kevin M
2007-04-24, 02:31 PM
Because I am going to beg, plead, cajole, harass, and demand it. Unless I am told flatout "no," out of town drivers who typically go to NT events and Divisionals will be pot in Pro Class. The intention of that class is to allow local drivers to measure themselves against national competitoon, and the ebst way to do that is to add as many high-level drivers to the class as possible at any given event.

sperry
2007-04-24, 03:12 PM
Why would they go to the pro class?
They should "want" to be in National Prep because they should "want" to run under national rules because of the higher challenge.

The problem is if they're coming up here just because they want to whoop on our crappy drivers, there's no incentive to run in P.

dknv

The problem is if they're coming up here just because they want to whoop on our crappy drivers, there's no incentive to run in P.Depending on who they are -- if they are up here to just run, and are not concerned about Reno's season points, I thought we were going to encourage RNP.

Kevin M
2007-04-24, 04:03 PM
YEah, but I'm trying to do what I can to get participation up in P-class, both to encourage local participation so the class doesn't die, and to get that run group filled out a little bit. I have to check to be sure, but right now I don't think we can expect more than 15 drivers in the Blue group at this point for sure.

cody
2007-04-24, 04:20 PM
The green group isn't changing right? The wallet cards and the "2007 Schedule" thread should all stay correct as far as we're concerned?

Kevin M

For now. Either SM or ESP may get moved however, because our run group is *HUGE* and 2 of the others need help.

cody

Would those changes affect whether I run in the afternoon or morning...or just whether I run 1st or 2nd?

Kevin M

They can affect which session you run in half the time. Emails will be sent, announcements will be made, and people will be informed at registration before run groups officially change.

It was a very fun course. I don't like shifting down into first though...er rather, my car doesn't like it much. It only ground a little once, but yikes.

I would have had trouble with it. I have to be going really slow to get my tranny to allow me in to 1st - anything over about 7-10mph and I just can't force it in. I need to find a way to open that up a little. Braking to 7mph usually ends up defeating the purpose of downshifting, and I'm forced to just wallow on out of the corner in 2nd. :(

P.S. If anyone has any advice on how I can loosen that up (i.e. get the tranny to allow me to downshift in to 1st at a higher speed instead of locking it up at anything over ~10mph), offer it up. I'd really like to be able to get in to first at 15-20mph so I can stay closer to the top of my powerband while still carrying a decent amount of speed.

Survey Says!:

Redline Shockproof Lightweight. :)

I'm using Uncle Scotty's Cocktail and it's only slightly better than stock. I can shift into first doing 25mph without revmatching or double clutching, etc but I have to be pretty slow with the shift.

Everyone who runs the Redline absolutely loves it. It should really help you out J.

I would have had trouble with it. I have to be going really slow to get my tranny to allow me in to 1st... If anyone has any advice...Cody is right. We did Sue's '02 WRX tranny Sat. PM with Lightweight shockproof and it was like night and day. No clinking, just goes in all the way to 20+... Took 30 minutes.

Go to Summit, buy fluid. It is on the back side of the first or maybe second rack as you walk in the door to the left. You need 3.7 Quarts. You also need a long bendy funnel or bottle pump to get teh fluid into the dip stick hole under the intercooler.

Make sure tranny is warm. You just got back from Summit, right?
Ramp or jack the front end up.(Use stands if jacking) Jack the rear up at the diff to make the car flat.
21mm socket on a 2' breaker bar + extension to break the plug loose.

Rags, socket extension, etc. to protect your hand to undo nut & copper washer and not drop it into the drain bucket you are using.

Let it drain while you clean the metal shavings off the magnet in the plug, open the bottles, put the funnel in place, . etc. If the turbo is still hot, Put a rag or two over it to keep from melting the funnel.

PUT THE PLUG BACK IN!!!

Put about 3.5 bottles in. Put the car on the ground, dipstick in and go drive it for a while.

Come back let it sit a few minutes and check the level. Top off if needed. By the third -5th shift, it should be a different tranny.

Also if you double clutch going into first it will go in magically smooth. The owners manual says that every gear is syncroed , so double clutching should not be needed, but it helps. I've gotten comments AutoXing, and RallyXing how smooth my upshifting is..

under braking in 2nd gear I hang enough of my right foot over so it can blip the gas pedal, i stay in 2nd gear as long as possible, then i push the clutch all the way down, put the shifter into nuetral, i let the clutch all the way up (or i think i do) I rev match my engine, NOW i push the clutch back down and slide it into first, and it feels silky smooth.

with out the double clutching it won't go into first @ 25. even if i hold the rpms at 5000 it just won't. My WRX had the exact same feeling to it.

I'd read about that, but I haven't had an opportunity to try it.

Awesome weekend! Not to rub it in again, but it looks like I snubbed Scott in Nick's car on Sunday by a 0.02 second margin! The "battle" was SO much fun tho!

And it was awesome having my Pops come out to watch!

That guy INSISTED that the first apex cone was out of the box and made me fix it. But since there was nothing wrong with it, I just made it look like I fixed it but really just moved it back and forth.

You forgot to mention the part where you are driving an STi. Slight improvements were made to that trasmission when it was designed.

I had a great time! What a fun course. I realized that I was taking for granted all good that can come of tapping the brakes. And that I wasn't really using my brakes as much as I should have been. I even got my first t-shirt tan of the season.

Thanks. But I don't get what you're saying. Are you implying that your or someone elses Scoob isn't the hotness? Because the wagons (esp Derricks[no offense! His just looks sexy with the dark wheels and the flaps) are my favorite cars to watch.

Kevins OBS was ESPECIALLY fun to watch...

Well, bugeye wagons are my personal 2nd favorite in the looks dept., but GC8 FTW.

When I bought my car, there were 04 wagons on the lot, but I liked the looks of the bugeyes better.

Damn, SECCS represented... 20 Subaru drivers.

Ouch.. Mike's 48.2 was dirty, almost opened the door for Cory. :)

I still have a ways to go to catch Matt.

Debbie did well Sun. just missed catching Patty by 2 100ths... :(

Good job beating the Vettes on Sun. Pete.

Just talked to Joel. That looks like the right place to me. Guess they changed to a monster TORX bit in 04??? Why, I have no idea...

Just confirmed it is a T70 for 04/05 on... Might be a mid 04 change as some appear to claim to have a normal bolt on 04s.

Well I rushed back to Kragen after being there once already tonight to get a 21mm socket. I bought their biggest TORX which was a T60. I assumed it was the biggest made and thus my problems were solved. Until I got home here and read Deans post. I sure hope that Khail Stocks these or I will just ebay it I guess.

Yeah, Great job team! I love it when we represent like that. Trying to chase down the yellow vette is going to make or break me, those guys are so fast!!!!

Anyway, Don't forget Carrie, she had a great run this weekend as well...I'm getting nervous.

Oh, and we were fighting some brake issues towards the end Sunday, I need to bleed my brakes badly. I won't make that mistake again. Looking forward to the next event!!!!!!!!!

Dean, You went with double adjustables correct? We should talk some time...:cool:Yeah. Unfortunately, they are different valving, and slightly different spring rates in the front, so all my old adjustment data is worthless. I didn't learn much this weekend as I am just trying to get the feel for the power. With the rear bar on medium, I definitely wasn't over steering except under power. I'm considering softening the bump in the front or stiffening the rear. I am on the soft side of center for both ends at the moment. The rebound damping appears to be about right as I don't get bad oscillations.
