Wow, that sucks. Does an insurance company cover that when it happens on a race track?
Wow, that sucks. Does an insurance company cover that when it happens on a race track? That pace car is an unlicensed/able unregistered/able uninsured/able non car on unlimited "loan" from Nissan. It can only be returned to them, or destroyed I believe, and it has now gone well towards the later.

An FX35 seems like a really shitty car for use on a road course to me anyway.... how about something that's NOT a lifted Altima.

Seeing it from down in the pits was fairly epic. The tire popping was really loud and the ensuing dustcloud was pretty amazing.

It's an FX45 with the 320 hp motor. Having driven it on track before, it's actually kinda fun.

I don't know who was driving. Someone said it was someone from SFR, but I can't confirm that.
All I know is when I stopped to make sure he was okay, he was getting out of the car on the radio. I'm really curious what he was saying to race control: "um, yeah... so uh... pace car is off course drivers left and into the wall, um... yellow flag?".

Ah, so the bigger motor'd, FR Murano... still puckers my arse thinking about that thing on track... I guess I just work on them too much.

So........if it's 2 seconds for hitting a cone, what's the penalty for hitting a wall? Pat R. used to wheel that big'ol piece around pretty good, and I never recall him htting anything! This isn't going to help the SCCA track trials program!

In the ever so wise words of Mr. Homer Simpson . . . D'OH!!! Sheesh, and I thought I was a crappy driver. ;) That video is all over the Net already, btw. Thanks for sharing, Scott. Whose Subie was that anyway (driving -- I THINK it was a Subie?)??? Great catch. Now we know what to do if we start a race and the pace car falls out of the pack . . .

You have go to be fucking kidding me! Several of us have driven that thing on the track in recent years, and never had any issues, it's totally safe in that role. What a mess.
Oops. Confirms how lucky I got when I left the track at ~90 mph.

That was my WRX. I was on pole for the event, and watched in astonishment as it happened.

Well, I stopped to make sure the driver was okay... but after that, I figured I'd just go to the next flag stand, get the black flag and come into the pits. But race control was a little slow, and didn't make the call to black flag until after I had already passed the last flag stand... so I ended up making a full lap at pace speed under yellow, then getting the black flag to pit for wall repairs.
Perhaps if the wall hadn't been damaged, the pace car could have just come off course while we were under yellow, then we could have taken the green w/o pitting... that would have made sense for keeping us out under yellow.

After watching the video again, I could only picture the other camera view - the one with the FX45 driver looking in his rear view mirror, saying - "wtf is that subaru turning all over the place for - oh he must be heating up his tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii........................oh shit!

Yeah, I couldn't believe it when I saw it until I felt how greasy it was into that turn.
What cracked me up in Scott's video was watching his helmet through the rear view mirror, pointed ahead at the road until the pace car left the road and watching his helmet slowly rotate towards the pace car instead. It was one of those WTF "rubberneck" moves.
Glad nobody got hurt.

Apparently I'm a wanker for wanting hot/clean/sticky tires instead of cold/dirty/slow ones. I'd join and reply if the thread wasn't so old... but I'm not gonna resurrect a 3 month old thread on a Hyundai board just to argue on the internet.

...actually, I don't really care that much, as long as no one starts some BS forum war by trolling them. It's just that poor Hyundai drivers still get a lot of shit for driving "cheap cars" even though they're actually pretty decent these days... I'd just be afraid they'd consider any comments an invasion regardless how friendly we might be.

True. Hyundai ownership has moved from "sorry to hear your credit is so bad" to viable option, even if in my case I'd generally pick something else in a class with a Hyundai.

For basic transportation... I'd pick a Hyundai over just about anything these days... even the all-mighty daily driver, the Civic. You get a lot of pretty nice car for the money. And the quality is there to the point where I would likely be done with the car and sell it long before it became a maintenance issue.
And the new Hyundai's coming out are really pretty sweet. The Genesis platform is sweet, especially w/ the V8. Never mind their rally cars.

Overall build quality is so high across the board that it doesn't really factor in for me. Basically, the lack of AWD options in inexpensive cars is my stumbling block. I jsut don't want to own a 2WD daily driver for as long as I live around here. At least not until I can essentially keep an extra Subaru around that I can let sit during good weather and still trust and enjoy in the winter.
