Alright, time for the music nerds to try and show off. Feel free to add your own. Stuff you are anticipating or whatever. Here is what I'm looking forward to this year.
---
Dub Trio - Another Sound is Dying (1/29/08)
I don't normally like dub, reggae, ragga, ska, dancehall or the other derivatives (my apologies to any Jamacians, but your music sucks), but Dub Trio is more of an instrumental hardcore jam band with spacy dub atmospherics layered over everything. The album came out today and I was listening to it all day at work. Great stuff.
Live show video: www.woozyfly.com/dubtrio
Some more samples on their myspace: www.myspace.com/dubtrio
KMFDM - Brimborium (2/19/2008)
Its like an addiction. I can't stop now. I've got 25+ albums, eps, singles from them. So, even when there is a remix album that I have little hope for, I can't not buy it.
Del The Funky Homosapien - Eleventh Hour (3/11/08)
Its been a long time since his last solo album, and he's saying in interviews that he's toned down the complexity of his lyrics for this album.
Free download single Bubblepop - http://www.definitivejux.net/mp3/bubble_pop.mp3
Mike Patton - Soundtrack to A Perfect Place (3/11/08)
Soundtrack to an indie film "A Perfect Place". Covers a lot of ground supposedly from dark atmospheric stuff to 50's bubblegum pop type stuff. Album will come with a DVD of the film (or does the film come with a CD of the soundtrack?).
Casettes Won't Listen - Small Time Machine (3/11/08)
A project I'm not too familiar with, except for a few killer remixes. The solo stuff seems more electro-indie. But decent remixes, and a good free single... will have to look into more later.
Myspace - http://www.myspace.com/cassetteswontlisten
Free single off the new album - Paper Float (http://www.cassetteswontlisten.com/Paper_Float_160.mp3) (not working for me at the moment)
Atmosphere - When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold (4/22/08)
Atmosphere - Sad Clown Bad Spring 12 (EP) should be out sometime in the spring too.
Atmosphere - Strictly Leakage (http://www.rhymesayers.com/atmosphere/) (1/8/08) Free Internet Album
Everyone's favorite emo rap duo is back!
Praxis - Profanation (Preparation for a Coming Darkness) - Released 1/1/08 in Japan. US release unknown.
Bill Laswell's superproject. Buckethead and Brain seem to be the mainstays again (I wish Bootsy Collins would come back). And guests like Hawkman, Iggy Pop, Mike Patton, Serj Tankian, Future Prophecies, Killah Priest and others. Those names alone get me a little excited.
Wikipedia entry on the article for more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Profanation_%28Preparation_for_a_Coming_Darkness%2 9
Buckethead - Untitled Studio Album - Spring 08
I was tempted to put this under the Unknown Status heading below, but considering he's been putting out an album on an average of every 6 months, I'm pretty sure it'll come out this spring. Rumor has it that it'll be similar to Buckethead and Friends with Serj Tankian putting helping out quite a bit with vocal and production duties.
Projects of Unknown Status
These ones are projects that are supposedly completed and/or working on and should be released in 08, but you never know.
Butterscotch
She's won beatboxing championships against heavyweights like Rahzel and is a multi-instrumental performer with a very dramatic vocal range (outside of the beatboxing) Supposedly a debut album is in the works. Hip-hop, Jazz, R&B, Soul, Experimental. A lot of potential here. Hopefully she can live up to it.
Promo Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfOx2LJtgQc)
Live on Tom Green's show (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zwH5bja1KU&NR=1)
Secret Chiefs 3 - Book of Souls Folio One
This is a very schizophrenic project, even by my standards. Their music covers surf rock, Persian, Arabic, Indian, death metal, film music, electronic music, and various others (thanks Wikipedia!) and the leader Trey Spruance (Mr. Bungle) says that SC3 is really a collection of 7 bands that each express a different part of his musical background. Fucking hippie stoner, but whatever, its good music.

Live in Melbourne (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZF8MYSDFAI)
Myspace Page for more info (http://www.myspace.com/secretchiefs3)
Deltron - Deltron Event II - (Del, Dan the Automator, Kid Koala) Supposedly finished in 06 minus vocals from Del, this album hopefully is getting worked on now that his solo album should be done

Memory Loss (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPT5qyTFS-8)
Lovage - (Dan the Automator, Mike Patton, Jennifer Charles) - Again, supposedly done, but no release yet. My guess is that they are still waiting on final vocals from Patton since he's been mister work-a-holic for the past few years.
Video links from previous album:
Book of the Month (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwBRkN9__uc)
Stroker Ace (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKiXYveusc0)
Peeping Tom - (Mike Patton)
When the first album was released in 06, Patton claimed there was enough material already recorded for a second or third album. Rumors are abound that a second album will be released this year. The first album was a mail-in colloboration superalbum with the likes of Dub Trio, Dan the Automator, Rahzel, Kool Keith, Jel, Doesone, Massive Attack, Amon Tobin, Norah Jones and more.
Mojo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pcvBFFflEc)
We're Not Alone - Live on Henry Rollins Show (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Xfv8h6nI-8)
Pig
He posted last year that he was working on a new album. Hopefully nearing completion so we can see it sometime in this calendar year.

Del's lyrics are what make his music unique. I hope he doesn't change too much. I've liked pretty much every Atmosphere album, so I'm looking forward to that one. As for the others, I guess I'm not whatevery enough, because I have no idea who any of them are.

Well, he's said he thought everything was getting too complex, and that by making the lyrics so complex he felt he was going over most peoples heads. He's saying that the real measure of intelligence is the ability to distill knowledge down to a language most people can understand.
So, I'm still expecting good things from this album. Maybe a little less wordplay, but the wit and vim should still be there.

Children of Bodom - Blooddrunk (4/15/08)
The Finnish heavy metal band is at it again. Considering I haven't heard a Children of Bodom album I haven't loved, this should be another brutal release.
In Flames- A Sense of Purpose (everywhere except the US by April 08)
A US release is definite, but at an unknown date. I don't know what to say about In Flames, they are an amazing band with an incredibly unique sound. They have changed a lot since their start in 1990. The last 4 or 5 albums were amazing so I am hoping this one follows.
Slipknot- Unknown.
Well the 9 piece mutant band has denied any recording, but all sources point to something stirring within the band. Only time will tell.
Metallica- Unknown.
Well after the personal disappointment of the legendary rockers last album I am looking forward to this release. Metallica claims they are going back to basics. The are going for a Black Album and previous type sound. Personally I think James should start hitting the bottle again...

Just got news that a new Head Automatica album should be out, as well as the debut disk from Palumbo's other side project House of Blow. Cage should also have another album out this spring too, but we probably won't hear anything about it until Def Jux is done promoting the new Del album.
Another three for me (and maybe only me) to get excited over.

Nick, I missed this the first time around, and only just now listened to this stuff. Overall, I do like it.
But, some constructive criticism, first, the drums are simplistic. They just sound like small loops over and over again without much variation. Also, there is a non-existent bass (as far as I can tell). Drums and bass are, in my opinion, the most important parts of music. They are the foundation, and without a good foundation, everything just sounds a little bit flatter.
But, I do like the melodies and the flow from the violin and guitar. About the only thing I could recommend in that front is to send the signals through some more filters. This may sound weird coming from someone that almost exclusively listens to synthetic music, but at times they sound too synthetic.
But, like I said, I liked it. I would think it could sound really good with some more post-production work.

Thanks Nick - great comments. I am still learning the software I use to record and that is where the drum and bass tracks come in. With more experience, hopefully that will improve. I just posted another tune that ups the volume of both of those called "Jet Stream". It's shorter and rocks a little more. Have a listen and let me know what you think needs improvement. All the tunes are going to get some major work this month.

Subtle - ExitingARM supposedly came out on Friday. Their last album still gets major play in my car so I'm hoping to find a copy soon. They are self-described as genreless, which really means indie-rock fused with old-school soul/r&b and modern atonal indie rap (thanks to anticon rapper doseone) gets lot of comparisons as the underground version of Gnarls Barkley that plays their own instruments.
Speaking of which, there should be a new Gnarls Barkley album out soon too.
Edit: owned by the difference between March and May. Album comes out on May 13.

I actually met Murs at the Living Legends show here in Reno on March 8th that night. Before he got mobbed with people after the show, I ended up getting a really rare Murs album signed by him and talked about my beats I'm making and general life with him for about 5 min. He reassured me he didn't sell out by signing to a major record label, he is actually signed by more than 4 record labels now including Def Jux, Rhymesayers for Felt, Legendary Music, a smaller label I can't remember, and now Warner Records! He signed to Warner to do another album with 9th Wonder (Who makes a lot of his beats) who is also signed to Warner Records. Just wanted to clear that up in hopes you will give his new one an honest chance! As for Slug, There has been some leaks of track listings, album art, and one of the new singles off of the new studio album in April, not to mention his new weekly episode on youtube/rhymesayers, I have links if you want this stuff. I also am up to 15 Slug/Atmoshere albums in my collection including most of the sad clown bad dub series and a few headshots series. I have an abundance of underground hip hop and hardcore/metal and a lot of music to sample from. Let me know if there is anything in particular you are missing or want and/or the leaked stuff.

I just like good music that has no message, and no story. I don't want to have to pay attention to enjoy music, I just want something that's purely emotional... i.e. classical music and progressive/trance electronica. I'm sick as hell of rap, hip-hop, emo, indie-rock, etc and I never liked country. All that crap has a message I'm supposed to buy into, whether it's bragging about bling and bitches or whining about women and lost dogs, I'm not interested in caring about it.

Scott, while I understand you not wanting to buy into messages of a commercial genre as a whole, I'm quite certain that there are thousands of songs out there with a "message" that's completely rlevant to your life and your perceptions. It's true of everybody, and if you haven't found a single songwriter who you "get" then you're missing out.

It's true of everybody, and if you haven't found a single songwriter who you "get" then you're missing out.
While I also understand your perspective Scott, solely because I make beats with no lyrics, my ADD flares and I have to do something with myself listening to music with vocals and I almost HAVE to hear what they are saying and try to relate if possible. I agree most Radio music is SHIT with a message to buy into that more than likely sucks (I listen mostly to independent record labels stuff), but you will find an artist who you connect to whether they sing or just play instruments and it may change your view a bit. When I personally make a beat I know the sound I am going for which sends a mood or message in a sense depending on if you connect with it or not just by the sounds of instruments themselves. What if someone made a song about turbos/motors that would directly relate to your life, would you listen then? So I guess let me re-word what I said, I like all music that has a message which relates to me or any part of my life I am going through or been though. Music that connects me to an artist/group because of a sound they have whether it be musically or vocally or something I am into. I like just about everything BUT country. Did you ever like music with vocals sperry? Also did you get your cable yet?

I'm not knocking people that like deep music. I'm just saying, I'm not into it myself. I used to care, back in the Pearl Jam, Tori Amos, Nine Inch Nails, 2Pac, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, era. But I just don't hear anything anymore that resonates with me, and I stopped looking. The music I like now, I like for purely superficial reasons... something with good rhythm and movement that I can listen to while coding or driving. Not something that's distracting 'cause it makes me think.
And yes, I did get that cable! Nick dropped it off for me. Now I just need to get it dropped into my living room wall. I'm debating on doing it myself, or just trying to get the cable guy to do it while he's dropping my RG6. Plus I need to get a RJ45 patch panel for my wiring closet... right now all the Cat5 in the house is wired on a crappy punch-down for phone use. Like anyone uses RJ11 wall plugs anymore!

You know, I was just noticing that the other day at work. I can't listen to half my music because its too distracting. I'd say the new NIN album is good for being background music, but its actually very multilayered and aurally very deep (which is just as distracting for me)

A lot of local hip hop artists will be there including my boys, Dangerous Minds, Apprentice, Rameses, Emic and Locust, Element, Jovie, Ray Ray, and also some local graf artists doing some painting on site. The show is called 360: A Full Circle View Into Local Hip Hop. If you like hip hop it is definitely worth checking out. It is going to be a positive vibe show, not to mention my little brother and one of his teachers are putting it on by themselves with no help. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to pm me. Not a lot of people know where Studio on 4th St is except for that it is on 4th St. Hope to see you there.

Found out the show I wrote about above is For Sure Thursday April 10th at Studio on 4th St. at 432 E. 4th St. at 7pm. I am told it is near where Valley meets 4th St. Near the Nevada Boxing Gym. Most of you guys will/should be at the meet, but if you like hip hop it might be worth it.

So, bought it at lunch today. Atmosphere - When Life Gives You Lemons You Paint That Shit Gold
So, this album feels like a significant departure to me. Its still undeniably Ant and Slug, but its a side rarely seen, and the whole album is focused on it very cohesively. The beats are more organic and melancholic. A lot of keys, winds and strings, that looking at the credits aren't sampled. There is a guest appearance by Tom Waits on the album and to me that describes the whole album. The feeling I get when listening to the whole album is that Ant and Slug listened to a lot of Tom Waits albums.
Not that that's a bad thing, its actually a very good thing, unless you were expecting a more straight up hip-hop album.

I bought the new Atmosphere the day it came out and haven't stopped listening to it since. It is in the CD player in the car and on all ipods. It is very different than the usual, but definitely still love it like the old ones. I have 16 total albums of his only and a couple of his side projects also. If there is anything you haven't heard let me know and I can bring it to the meet when work allows me to make it. I also have a lot of local hip-hop artists if you are interested in hearing something new.
I'm not diggin the new atmos, although I haven't enjoyed him much since the lucy ford days. I've kind of grown out of my hip hop tastes, although I still jump on anything defjux/cage/el-p and I never get tired of little brother.

I'm still digging on the new Atmos album. I don't know if you guys like MURS, but he is supposed to come out with a new album early summer called MURS For President, so hopefully in the next month or so I'll see it. Finally got the new Living Legends album also and I'm pretty impressed with it. If you guys like local artists Element or MetaPhysical from Element, we are doing a show with them on May 17th, at the Loose Moose at 9pm. I think the Loose Moose is near Kings Row and McCarran intersection in that shopping center. It's actually Meta's birthday I believe. If you dig hip hop, you should check it out. Also check out Canto I on myspace, we did a show with them and they are from Reno also. They definitely have some talent.

Atmosphere just came out with another album this week. It is Sad Clown Bad Spring, I think it is #12 of the series. I've only seen it at Fifth Element dot com. It is just another short cd of like 5-6 songs but probably worth getting if you are like myself and own a majority of the Sad Clown Series. Mine's on the way so I'll let you know. I think Sad Clown 13 is in the Deluxe Edition of when life gives you lemons and is a DVD.

I couldn't agree with you more. The first listen I thought it was OK, and after every time I listened to it, I loved it more and more. Album of the year for sure, let's see if anyone beats him for the spot in the next 6 or so months! Glad to hear the #12 is good, I was kind of worried it would be like the 9-11 that I liked about 2 songs on each. I tend to not pick up music on itunes, only use it to load and unload music from the pod. Do they copyright protect their music like napster?! I like to burn discs to listen to in the car on the way to and from work and to do that with music on napster, we had to convert it and strip the copyright protection off and it was a pain to do that to all of the music we downloaded.

Yeah, I'll buy EPs and stuff off of iTunes but generally not whole albums. There is protection against copying on some of the files but you can burn them to CD no problem (if they are iTunes plus there is no drm but it is watermarked with the account they are bought under).
I've started buying some through amazon lately. They have a good selection, same price and no drm.

I'm going to miss ANOTHER meet this week, my hip hop group Dangerous Minds' practice conflicts with it lately on Thursdays. We have our next show this coming Saturday, May 17th, 9pm at the Loose Moose Saloon right on Kings Row and McCarran. We are opening up for a friend of ours and his group Element. It is our friend Meta's birthday from Element and their tour date just happens to be here this weekend. As soon as this show is done our practice will be an different days so I will be able to make the meets hopefully weekly. No body's sippin Haterade, just stating opinions which everyone including yourself is entitled to. I love how if you don't like something now, you're a hater. It's amusing to me. But I'll be real about it. Kanye's got good beats, I'll give him that. He is very talented at making those and has been even before he got famous. I know how hard it is to make beats from scratch because I do, so I can appreciate that. I just don't care for his lyrical content most of the time. He has a good voice, a good flow, but a lot of his songs lack lyrical potency. I'm guessing mostly because it is mainstream music and that is what it has been molded into. He has some songs with catchy chorus', but can't stand up to almost any underground hip hop artists' lyrics or heart. Underground Hip Hop is like College Football Athletes, they try harder and have something to prove to the world. It shows in their lyrics. They are trying to make it to the next level. I just think it is better music, and that's just another opinion. That's why I don't listen to the radio and most artists on the FM. Just my take

I just hooked up AvB's Universal Religion 2008 from Ibiza on iTunes. It's some decent oontz. Nothing spectacular, but it's live and has decent energy to it.
I also found an single by Marc Marberg (who I've never heard of before) but the song "Guarana" is some brutal grungy Trance. I'm sure I'll get tired of it soon enough, but for now, this song is sweet!

So, I did pick up the new Pendulum album In Silico a few weeks ago. Its quite possibly some of the most mainstream Drum and Bass that I've heard in a long time. Great to listen too, but its sugary sweet packaging hurts your teeth after a while. Strangely enough, I get a lot of classic prog-rock feel from the song structure, instead of standard DnB riffs. I've also noticed that they've changed their group in liner notes. Instead of 3 DJs, there are now 2 DJ/Keyboard, 1 Singer/Keyboard/Guitar, 1 Guitar, 1 Bass and 1 Drummer.
Propane Nightmares (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPbeEtjo70g)
Granite (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQA1d0QQvf8)
And because I'm too hardcore to care about mainstream DnB, I had to also pick up Evol Intents new one, Era of Diversion. But, strangely enough, they also worked on quite a few crossover songs as well with Messinian, Cypher Linguistics and BANE. I'm actually impressed with how well the album ties together, despite all the seeming randomness. Ooh, also forgot to mention that there are a good collection of IDM style songs. I can't say, though, that they sound all that good. They sound like Aphex Twin, but not really in a good way. They almost sound exactly like Aphex Twin, without any of their own sound mixed in, which is a shame.
Crossover songs:
The Foreward w/ Messinian (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqBMEmGvYKY)
Death, Lies and Video Tape w/ Cypher Linguistics (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdyeaO4GVVg)
Smoke and Mirrors w/ Adam Bendard of BANE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mxl73a7YHzk)
More traditional DnB stuff
Middle of the Night (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRDSG_8PuE8)(Trance + DnB)
Dead On Arrival (http://youtube.com/watch?v=lfMgH-fXk-Y)(More of the horror type stuff they are known for)
8-bit Bitch (Spor Remix) (http://youtube.com/watch?v=YNp7VVlL8zM) (Again more of the horror type stuff)
Bleh, there is my electronic output for the month.

Never really been a Portishead fan. They've always felt, to me anyway, like they are treading well worn ground with nothing much new to add, except for a singer I don't like much. Everything sounds good, but not great. I think I'd give them more credit if they dumped the singer and worked on fleshing out the arrangements more, but I doubt they'd do that since her vocals are such a central point of why they are so popular.

I believe, yet once again, this was aimed at a different Nick, but here it goes.
I used to think that Slipknot was just another metal band with a gimick, but I have to say I've got a lot more respect for them lately. They are doing some damn fine stuff. I can't say I like it all, but I think they got a good thing going.
Also, I caught some cuts off Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat, and god damn, that was awesome. You can really hear a lot of the industrial, eletro/noise, funk & prog-metal influences, but with a greater variety and experimentation. I always thought the comparisons to Mr. Bungle's first album were strictly due to the gimp masks, but it sounds like the started fairly similarly (before branching wildly). Of course, the sounds are different enough, but the semi-free form multi-genre blending metal is there.

Yeah, but their point in the beginning was to NOT have the popularity. They didn't want to walk through the mall and have people recognizing them, they just wanted to make music, and still have their personal lives. The masks are just a part of them now, and they can't get rid of them!

Moreover than that, the masks represent the music for Slipknot. Each member is involved in side projects where musical style changes and "Slipknot" characteristics aren't used. So the masks and the jumpsuits represent the band and allow the entire band to feel unified and actually binds them to the music...I read that in an interview somewhere...

You sure it's a clipping issue? Last time they put out an album, they told us the low production quality was "artistic exploration". Maybe they're just making a statement.
BTW, the statement is "you suckers will buy our shit and make us richer no matter how crappy it is!"
Apparently the clipping is due to some "dynamic compression" BS that makes the album louder because to most people's ears, louder=better sound. At least that's what the were saying on a Nasioc thread.

The top is the Guitar Hero sample, the bottom is what comes on the CD.
Odds are somebody screwed up in the recording studio when the tracks were layed down and they were too something (pick your own adjective) to rerecord them.
Oops, I retract that... It looks like they screwed up the CD mix and were too something to fix it probably because the masters and likely the CD run itself had already been done.

This technique has been used for years to create an album that "pops" on the radio. Since most people have crappy stereos (like in their cars), by dynamically cranking up the volume in the mid-range, you can make the song sound fuller. The problem is that for anyone that cares about quality and/or has some decent equipment, it sounds like ass, since all the loud parts have been clipped and all the quite parts have been amped up, and all the highs and lows have been nerfed.
Originally it was a style done with music production methods, now it's just done by some yahoo with CoolEdit Pro in post-production. Look up "wall of sound": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wall_of_Sound
But it wasn't a "mistake". No way a huge album goes out the door without a few audio engineers reviewing it. They made a conscious decision to do this to it so it plays better on the radio.
Dewey
2008-10-06, 10:17 AM
Metallica has been doing that since "St. Anger."
Are you saying they think the sound quality on an 14-24 year old's video game TV set is better than most vehicles "Bose" sound system or home stereo or even a decent set of iPod headphones? Not very logical IMHO.
The recording industry makes specific mixes/release constantly for radio that are different from the album versions. There are Torrents full of them. :)
Do you honestly believe mistakes don't make it to production in the audio industry and that they might make a financial decision over a audiophile one?
Dewey

Its not that they think that coming from the TV has better sound quality, but the recording is a better quality. The Guitar Hero track is uncompressed compared to the CD version.
The recording industry makes specific mixes/release constantly for radio that are different from the album versions. There are Torrents full of them. :)
The "Death Magnetic" tracks on the album are significantly compressed, possibly as bad as the radio edits.
Do you honestly believe mistakes don't make it to production in the audio industry and that they might make a financial decision over a audiophile one?
Of course mistakes happen, but this is a recurring issue with Metallica, and a few other bands. I'm not sure what the financial benifit of compressing the tracks on the CD is. Torrents are available of higher quality mixes, but if you actually go out and purchase the CD you are screwed.

I think the coders of Guitar Hero aren't as jaded, and actually care about the quality of their product as opposed to the producers of Metallica albums. Plus, they had access to the split tracks of the songs in order to make the game... so all they had to do was not intentionally ruin them before publishing the game.
As far as the quality of the album... I assure you, a big "mistake" like this isn't a mistake. If the general public is hearing the quality problem, it would have been caught before they printed a million of them. It's very likely, since it's Metallica, that they have intentionally jacked up the quality of the album so when it's made into an MP3 it really sounds like ass to discourage piracy.
And I *certainly* believe that the industry makes money a priority over quality. That's where this whole problem came from, and was the point of my 1st post!

I gotta agree with Scott here, I highly doubt that the CD made it to stores being "mistakenly" compressed so badly. A lot of newer albums are being recorded like this, and they seem to be getting worse and worse. I can barely listen to "Californication" or "Stadium Arcadium" from RHCP for the same reason, and the clipping on the new Metallica record is even worse.
MP3s and iPods have ruined autocross. Or something like that.

In Silico is pretty good. I was actually surprised to hear Granite on KWOD this weekend whilst driving through Sacramento.
Anyway, for similar drum and bass-ish electronic stuff you should check out John B - Electrostep. Came out in '06 and is an 80s Electro/New Wave inspired drum and bass. I was just listening to it again the other day, and forgot how fun that album is.

The Prodigy has a new album coming out soon, March I think called Invaders Must Die. The lead single has been released, but a lot of people are deriding it for sounding too much like Pendulum (which in my opinion isn't really all that bad). Supposedly the rest of the album is going back on their Fat of the Land form (with the two singers coming back) as opposed to Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned.

It might be a game changer for Reno as far as venues go....

Phoenix for sure. Going to see the Roots there on Friday too. So happy that there is a real and respected music venue here.

A 40 second video with a little bit of music and one photo is all that is on the site now. New EP due this summer.

The 'How To Destroy Angels' EP is out for free download (or you can buy a physical disk if you want).
Its like a mixture of recent NIN mixed with Massive Attack. Which is a good thing in my book.

I finally got to listen to this, it's fantastic. Apparently How To Destroy Angels is Trent Reznor and his wife. They are planning on releasing an album next year.
Check out the video for the first song on the EP, wow: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWbfgGDl6XE

This should generate some interesting comments. Korn is teaming up with dubstep producers for their next album. Here's Korn and Skrillex.

For some reason I want to buy a Ford truck now.
I will say though... Skrillex is awesome and incredibly tallented (esp. when you consider he's like 19 or something). I expected more from him... sure Korn's not much to work with, but check out what he did with that god-awful Gaga song (it gets awesome at 1:30):

Get rid of the chorus (hell, get rid of Davis altogether) and I could get into the song. I think the sounds actually merge well together. Then again, I'm a horrible judge of music these days.

True. But I do love his voice when he's not whining. I was just listening to old Korn this morning...posted it on my wall on FB and everything.
I almost went and saw Skrillex at the Knit a while back, but it was a weeknight.

Korn peaked when they played themselves on the Scooby-Do Southpark episode. Everything else they've done is utter crap IMO.

 I like a couple songs off Life is Peachy (I think Got the Life is on that album). Not sure if that was before or after that episode. Issues was pretty bad though. I think that's what their last album was called.

There are only a few korn songs that I am willing to listen to and I really don't like admitting to that. Follow the leader has "Got the life". The only time I will have them in a playlist is when I'm about to smash some weights or play football. "dead bodies everywhere" will always get you pumped up. I also like "blind" but most of the song is pretty slow. This gives me an idea for a thread.

A little hard to call that "acoustic", but it was certainly "live". Really goes to show just how deep the parts are in that song, which is one of the biggest advantages of tracked music: you can place layer upon layer together without having to have a huge orchestra.
Seeing a bunch of people coordinate together to play the piece, even if they're using a ton of techo stuff to make it possible, is pretty awesome.

Yeah, I don't think anyone is calling that acoustic
And there is definitely some special theremin type attachment on that bass (or the dude is just really into the wub wub). It definitely shows off the amazing power of sequencing. Makes it much easier to compose multi-leveled music.
