View Full Version : Pre-Spring Meet?

Well, one last meet before the snow's gone?

April and May will be busy with AutoX (http://www.doink.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=59) and race events (http://www.doink.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=62), so we prolly won't need to hold meets then, since we'll be getting together anyway, right?

So let's put together a meet for March? The weekend of the 8th comes to mind... any takers?

Sound off, ya'll!!

ArthurS
2003-02-27, 03:18 PM
That sounds alright. My car goes in the shop on the 3rd and better be finished by then.

But after that weekend, it goes right back in to get that weird sound checked out. So the 8th or 9th is good for me as long as the don't keep my car longer.

Not for me, the Mustang probably won't be ready by then and plus if there's still snow in the area I don't want to drive it up there. Mustang + Kuhmo 712's + cold/snow = Splat

ArthurS

Up to everyone what we do. I am fairly free, on the 10th through 13th Ill be in Vegas and then on to spring break.

Labmonkey, couldn't you drive up another vehicle? You could still come hang-out and check out some non-american cars.

We should also start a thread in BAIC over NASIOC to see if anyone else may want to show up to the meet.

Get your vote in there!

I'm cool with pretty much any weekend, so I'll be happy to wait till March 15th, but I want to make sure we can get as many people as possible.

Are you planning on coming out to the Autocrosses once they start up in April? I think DKNV said there's a tech day and a training day on April 5-6. If you can make those, we'll see that bad boy soon even if it's not fixed before March 8.

ArthurS

If we can do it the 15th (Saturday) then I think I could make it. I might be going to Catalina or something after the 15th.

Yes - Reno AutoX test & tune on April 5 and an AutoX school on April 6. ( I also heard there will be a rally in the area of the Fernley track during that weekend - boo hoo, I'd go if I wasn't going to be at Stead instead.)

On Sat. March 22, there is a Reno SCCA info day at the parking lot at Summit Racing, fyi. We'll have an EZ-up set up with informational materials and some people on hand to answer questions about Autox. If you're not having the meet on that Saturday, stop by if you can.

I'll try to make a meet this month, except for Mar 8/9 (will be at a track drivers' school at Spring Mtn Motorsports park in Pahrump).

I think the 15th sounds the best then. ZERO26D will possibly have his car back then and dknv could make it also.

*Imprezton said he would go also.

Okay, I haven't had anyone say that can't make the weekend of the 15-16, and since some people can't do the 8th. I'm gonna have to say we should plan on the 15th!

Now, I'm still down for Turkish Rally on the 8th (is that the day) but I guess we won't consider that "the meet". (Let me know what the dilly is with that rally coverage btw!)

So, if we're getting together on the 15th, what are we doing? When the new Matrix movie come out? We could do a movie meet again... the parking garage near the cinema was a pretty decent place to meet because there's cover in the case of weather.

Any other ideas?

ShawnS

Are you refering to the cinema in downtown? If we have access to the top that would awsome.

Radiator problems? Ask LabMonkey about those, hehe. That guy's Jeep preheated faster than my oven. We sat in the "parking lot" at Sears Point one year with the heater on full blast to try and keep the motor cool while waiting to leave... it still over-heated in like 30 minutes!

It was extra-special that day for some reason... it was only like 90 degrees that day, I don't know why it went pyro like that. It was fine last summer here in Livermore even when it was like 110 out.

Still in. Have we decided if it will be a movie meet? Meet on top of Riverside Theaters?

sperry
2003-03-12, 02:23 PM
Okay ya'll... what are we doing?

Possible movies:

Cradle 2 the Grave (Jet Li and DMX get their Kung Fu on)

The Hunted (comes out Friday, Tommy Lee Jones gets his ass kicked by Benicio Del Toro)

LOTR: Two Towers (still playing... I've only seen it once)

... ugh, not a lot of choices.

Another idea I just had: we could go race the go-karts at the Hilton or Wild Island. A little "pre-season autoX training".

ArthurS
2003-03-12, 02:36 PM
I won't mind going to watch 'The Hunted'. That looks pretty good. I am game for anything though. Do I assume it going to be the typical meet start time of 11 am?

I wouldn't mind another photo shoot ontop of the parking garage though.

sperry
2003-03-12, 02:51 PM
I was kinda excited about the go-karts... hehe. I wanna get out on the track and rub fenders with you guys!! lol

Too bad there's no Malibu Grand Prix out here... those are much faster karts, but they don't let you race 'em against each other.

ArthurS
2003-03-12, 03:23 PM
Go-Karts actually sound fun. Hilton or WIld Island?

And I also heard we are getting some bad weather this weekend. Hopefully not too bad.

dknv
2003-03-12, 04:02 PM
Karting would be fun.

Has anyone been out to the Karting track at Stead? That's something I want to do one of these days.

I also heard bad weather is coming in this weekend. Should have a backup plan.

dknv
2003-03-12, 04:04 PM
Backup plan (indoor) ideas:

- Movies
- Laser tag at the Hilton?
- Reschedule?

sperry
2003-03-12, 04:13 PM
Actually, one of the best times I had karting was a day at Malibu Grand Prix in the wet. It was drizzling, but not enough for any standing water, so the track was slippery as hell and they let us keep running! Plus the weather drove off most the people so there was zero waiting for laps.

Unfortunately, it looks like we're supposed to have some serious rain Fri, Sat and Sun. So I'll bet it'll be too wet for Karting... crud!

Laser Tag is an interesting idea... I haven't played that since I was like 12! It is any fun at the Hilton? The downtown cinema might work since the parking garage will provide cover for the cars, which is why we picked it way back when for fear of snow.

I'm down for whatever, what do you guys want to do?

ArthurS
2003-03-12, 04:21 PM
In light of bad weather, we could attempt the laser-tag idea or movies either sounds good to me. The downtown theaters do have cover, thats kinda nice.

If good weather shows up, then karting still sounds like a blast. Never know with Reno weather.

(As I type this, there is a brand new corvette being towed down te street on Mae Anne. Wonder if he is getting it repo'd. :? )

MattR
2003-03-12, 10:13 PM
There is a Slick track road course at teh hilton that is a LOT of fun, you can get your drift on in a big way...I've spent a bunch of $$$ trying to better my drift skills. And its a road course, not an oval, good times. We could meet up for go karts and lunch at johnny rockets, that could be cool. I have given up the notion of putting a run together until the spring is here and I have taken off my snow tires. 8)

MattR
2003-03-12, 10:18 PM
But...If weather comes, I think a movie meet downtown sounds good.

Cobb stuff is generally great stuff. I was pretty set on the Cobb Club Spec setup when I 1st got my WRX. Then I started learning about Vishnu's stuff, and you simply can't beat the cost/performance ratio of Vishnu's entry level stuff. The Cobb stuff is still dope tho! I have their original short shifter, before the double adjustable came out... man I want one of those now! lol... it never ends...

That Slick Track sounds sweet. If it's raining tho, it'll prolly be closed right? Do they require helmets on those things, or are they more like bumper cars than karts? I vote, no rain = slick track, rain = movie... let mother nature (http://www.weather.com) make the decision. And I really hope it's only rain, cuz I took my snow tires off :x!

Oh, some more possible movies:
- Shanghai Knights (I never saw it... but the 1st one was amusing)
- DareDevil (I never saw that either, cuz I "dislike" Ben Asslick, to put it mildly , but I usually see all the comic based movies)
- Tears of the Sun (supposed to be a good war flick, Bruce Willis kicks ass)

BTW: I'm gonna start sticking the "current" Reno Meet thread so we can keep track of it easier.

ShawnS
2003-03-13, 09:05 AM

ArthurS
2003-03-13, 09:09 AM
If its a movie, I vote 'Tears of the Sun' or 'The Hunted'.

If its good weather....I am all up for some karting....that slick rack sounds fun.

Ya know, I was anti-access for the longest. But then I figured out that nearly every office machine either already has access, or it can easily be loaded. For small applications, Access is unbeatable, because you don't need to talk the powers that be into purchasing MSSQL or Oracle.

Not to mention that development is so screwy in Access that you have mondo job security once you get them to depend on your app

Yeah, I used it at my last job pretty extensively... but at least I was programming an interface with it and I didn't have to use its front end... god, that's in the running for the WORST SOFTWARE EVER. But the database itself isn't too bad: self contained, readily available, and easy to program for. But it's only usefully on small projects cuz it's slow and not scaleable.
