What is there to do in Reno? I've been here for about a week and I don't know what to do. Is there anything for the younger crowd here

Like Roberto said, it all depends on what you like doing. Now that Summer is coming there is a ton of "stuff" to do. If you are into arts and music there is always crap going on down town. Sporting events; there is a new baseball stadium that is going to start having games. There is a water rapids park on the truckee river that you can do down. There are a ton of places to go hiking and there are several lakes within an hour of Reno. There are shooting ranges, Herbies paintball in Fernley, go-karts at Grand Sierra, arcades at most every casino, numerous batting cages, etc.

Um, get a job?
...no seriously, get a job with other folks your age, even if it's just slinging burgers at AppleBees. The work will suck (it's a job after all) but the money and friends you'll make are usually well worth it. Plus you'll find out what else there is to do in town from people your age that have lived here longer than you.
Make a friend who has toys (boat, jet ski, bikes, ATV's) and then invite me to come play. Chris and Mary fish. I like mtn biking but the only place I've found in the area that has trees and shit is the Tahoe Rim Trail. It's kinda far for daily rides.

I'm actually lookin for a job. I was a professional detailer for Sonora Subaru but the owner was a cheap skate and I couldn't afford to live on my own so I moved here to Reno hoping to find a job. But this economy sucks and not having a college degree sucks major. I snowboard but the season is done so that blows. I do enjoy camping and in fact I'm going memorial weekend, but that's just one weekend taken care of. Not much of a partier and no need to hit on girls (have gf). I think life will be better once I find a darn job and it doesn't help I live way out in cold springs or whatever this place is called

If you can pull off getting student loans and scholarships to be able to afford to go to college, now's a great time to be in school. Wait out the economic slump learning something, then get back into career hunting w/ an expanded skill-set right as people start hiring again.

I was just saying that yesterday when Amanda was saying she feels too old to go back to school. She's only in her late 20's. I should be keeping up my education too. I'm just not willing to because am "done" with school.

Well now that it's getting warmer, there will be more things to do. I like to go to the river and the lake. There are a ton of spots up n down the river to play. Zephyr gets pretty packed on the weekends. If you like to hike or bike there are a lots of trails too. Other than that, house parties are fun. Sometimes. I haven't been to one in a long time, now that I'm of age.
There are also rec sports. And strip clubs. And hookers. And drugs don't forget drugs... haha.

First of all, definitely get a job. Easier said than done, but it will eat up a lot of time, and you'll have money to actually go do stuff. Then:
Get a dog!
Play video games
Get a gym membership and start lifting (beach season's coming up ;))
Go to the movies with your GF
Cook with your GF
Work on your car
For some reason I really can't think of what I do in my free time... lol I think a lot of it is just chilling at home either alone or with my gf... during the week I'm just busy with school and the gym the whole time, I guess...
JonnydaJibba

I need a work out partner... It's so much harder to motivate yourself when you are doing it alone.
bigrobwoot
2009-04-15, 07:49 AM
Really? I actually prefer going alone, cuz then I can focus. But my girlfriend lifts with me, so I let her, cuz I'm not gonna tell her to not go to the gym cuz I wanna lift alone. Ask Pete, Ive seen him at the UNR gym. I know he's on this forum, I don't remember his sn tho. He has a 2004 STi that he's trying to sell. Nick P said he traded exhausts or something with him a while back. I figure you know him, lol

Yeah, a lot of people do, I can understand that. I usually just end up BSing for an hour instead of lifting, so I try to go alone. My girlfriend actually helps me to go when I don't feel like it tho, so that helps.

Yeah, that's the route I would prefer, also. But it didn't sound like he wanted to go to school, so I skipped that step. College isn't necessarily for everyone. Neither one of my parents went to college, and they were both very successful until their midlife crises. But that's a story for another day lol

Yeah, I think that's the one. He hasn't posted in a while. Everytime I see him I ask his sn but I always forget it. It was something like that tho.
To get back on topic, you can also go mob your Subaru if it's not slammed and if you don't mind getting it dirty. There are a couple trails that are doable. I went pretty far up peavine, and I'm lowered. Me and my buddy went shooting up there, and I wanted to see if my car could do it. It did :) and I didn't scrape once, I just had to take some weird angles at some places

Actually with all my bills and stuff college just isn't the right way right now and I already owe on a student loan. Went to school for a year but dropped out to help my father after his back surgery and I just haven't been back sense. I actually went to TMCC. Getting a job is alot harder and that's my main concern. I don't mind taking my car off roading but would rather wait cause I just clay barred the whole thing and it looks sharp.

There prices are kind of high. Next year I'll get a season pass but I already put the board and boots away. There's jobs just not something I can do. Maybe I'll try and get back into the car business detailing again. It's kind of fun making old cars pop

FYI you don't need parents, scholarships, or loans to get a degree. Many employers offer tuition/books aid. Sure, working and going to school takes a bit longer, but it is totally doable. Of course, you compromise your play time to a certain extent, and also you are investing your cash in classes rather than making car payments, but it can pay off in the end.

If you would have gone monday you would have seen me down that way. Had to go to gncu to get a new debit card.
I also just remembered, FedEx helps you pay for tuition while you work there, I have a few friends that do that. I forget how much it is, but I think it's the majority of the cost of tuition. I remember being impressed with the amount they pay. Maybe half? Which I know isn't the majority but still ;)

Be careful.
I know of a few large 4x4's that have ventured out on Lemon Valley's lake bed for mudding and didn't return.
Two years ago, there was a blazer out there for months, till it was safe to get something large enough out there to yank it out.

Instead of what? Haha, bet you never heard that zinger. The "deep" part is not that bad, it's the thick-n-slick texture of it thats scary. It will cake up in tire treads making them slicks really fast. Then once stuck, a slow sinking begins.
It's like thick Peanut Butter....without the Peanut'y taste.
