Hey now! I believe Khail gets the props for doing it TWICE before any of us. Then I did it, and have since replaced 'em with EDM projectors. :P
I think as far as SECCS, more people have done it than haven't! (That's just the kind of hard-core tuners we are! Unlike those pussy's in WA who only do JDM motor swaps...)!

And we're tree hugging Subaru owners with 300 HP here, so that works out fine.

Cotton gloves? You prolly don't need anything special to keep the inside of the light clean if that's what you're thinking. There's not really any reason to touch the innards of the light, except for the part you'll be painting anyway. Just make sure to have a clean work environment and some canned air to blow out any dust as you re-assemble the lights.

i have a have tube of black sealant and tools. we need flat black paint (barbeque paint or something like that i guess from what i heard), maybe more sealant..depending on how many people do this, and i dont know if we need anything else
MikeSTI
2003-12-07, 07:09 PM
the only reason i said cotton gloves is i hear it is easier to handle the light after cooking it . a big mitt might be to much :?

2003-12-07, 09:07 PM
when we did it last time we just took the heat on the hands and were quick about it. No planning there. But good idea with the gloves.
I think a satin finish is what we used. It looked like an OEM plastic. I think a real flat black might kinda look too ghetto. I don't think it was a krylon or anyhting but it was not the cheapest either.
Matt go out in your garage and see if you still have the can. :?
And tomorrow right monday. Well unless I get out of work early which is doubtful I make around 8:40ish depending on how easy I find you house and all.

I'll go look in the morning,
I think It is Rust Oleum Black outdoor barbeque/furniture paint..
sperry
2003-12-07, 11:16 PM
I used rustoleum BBQ paint for mine, and I felt that it wasn't quite "black" enough... it seemed just a little too light. I don't think high-temp paint is really necessary... if I were to do it again, I'd just go with a good high quality semi-gloss black paint.
I think as far as SECCS, more people have done it than haven't!
I'm lost, what is 'done it'?

i was able to rig it together after sawing off the melted part. i put it back on ok and it looks all right except for the HUGE BOILED BUBBLING PLASTIC in the front. hehe but you learn from your mistakes.
tysonK
2003-12-09, 10:15 PM
HOLY Crap.
We did ours at like over 300 for only 8 mins, And never melted. But I thought you guys said you were doing 250?
What did you turn it up to?
MikeSTI
2003-12-10, 08:10 AM
lol 300 for 8 mins. Well I think Sean figured 400 at 5 mins would work just as well :( but yes we all learnd a little something that night thanks to Sean, it would need to be 400 for 30 sec
Hey sean at least you got it back together :?
did you get those other lights ordered?
sperry
2003-12-10, 10:20 AM
Yeah, I did mine for like 5 minutes at 125 or something... all you need to do is soften it up enough to get a screw driver in there.... then pry it apart. When I did mine it felt barely warm to the touch!
BTW: If you guys need to open a headlight up again, I've gt a heat gun... just heat up the seal and leave the rest cold. I guess I should have been following this thread more... I would have offered the gun before this fiasco! :(
