Thanks Mike and other T&S people.
Wow, Vic picked up his game. Matt R and Kevin M, great driving. I'm really surprised that the open course and awesome grip didn't hurt Kevin. 3rd and 4th in PAX this weekend is crazy good. Thanks everyone. I had a great time until my car decided to start smoking from both ends. :unamused: |
Not as surprised as I was! Somehow I screwed up the math so bad on Saturday that I thought I was 2 seconds off your PAX time. Seven tenths makes me feel a lot better! It did suck seeing a 3rd place from this morning that I thought was pretty secure turn into a borderline drop. :( The last 4 events are going to be interesting for the 4 of us!

Vic, great job man... |
weekend of issues :(
Wow what a weekend.
Leaving the campsite i cut a tire (i think when doing a doughnut just before going on the paved road.) so i race on my finely aged and bald 615's Cody develops an oil / turbo? issue. hopefully minor. I got to drive Tom B's mr2, wow his car is sooo amazingly neutral , and a lot of fun. braking in a MR , no abs is very challenging , didn't realize how much i was relying on my powertrain to prevent front wheel lockup. Dempsey's Car dies on his last run. just had gotten to the Rev limiter before the slalom and its like the car was turned off, (blow off noise too) suspecting it slipped a tooth, hopefully no internal damage. :( So i drove with nick to reno to drop off Dempsey's car with Tom . and we get a call. Rick had some car issues on the end of the new 395 in carson  we drove south to meet up and Rick tows to reno . :( Oh driving with 1 tire of less grip in a back corner isn't that bad. you have to really watch it in the slaloms though , its easy to get progressively out of shape. Ya Cody killed it on Saturday and Vic did amazing today. Wish i didn't have my tire issues so i could have been part of the show :D Maybe i should try to not drive on my autox tires in the dirt :?:   |
Oh also thanks to Silvio for letting me test his Rear diff's break away torque.
12 foot pounds. (my car is reading about 10 or 11) . anyone know what a stock STI rear diff should take to break away? Matt have you ever tested yours? Scott? (or you running an aftermarket rear diff) ?? |
I have no idea what my torque is. It's a stock sti 3.90 R180.
|
I had a great time...AGAIN!! Wish I could make it to more events.
Sucks to hear about the handful of bad luck this weekend. |
If / when you get a chance to break away torque test it, that would be the Uber!
|
I don't even know what that is.

But I also have no friggen clue what "the Uber" is. Actually, I'm nerdy enough I can prolly guess that one too, but I'm not gonna. |
Put your car in neutral, ebrake off, jack up one rear tire (probably chalk a front tire or two ) , put a 32mm socket on your torque wrench and put that on the axle nut. set your torque wrench to 10 , see if it *clicks* up to 15, keep repeating until you can spin the wheel with out hitting the torque the wrench is set to. It sounds like the rear diff should maybe be at 40-45 foot pounds .. (looking at an IWSTI post) where the guy says he put in thicker plates that promise 10% over stock and he's at 50.
|
But then I have to take off my center caps, no way!

With luck you'll only need a set of bearings... but while we're in there anyway...

I finally found the words I was looking for on the results page, posted after my name.
