Ack!! thats horrible hun!

ArthurS 2004-02-05 08:51 AM

OUCH! Did they give you a estimate yet?

dknv 2004-02-05 04:40 PM

I guess I might want insurance to total it after talking with the body shop. Without having looked at the suspension or the drivers seat yet, the estimate is over $9,100. It is buckled on the roof and rear/trunk floor, it needs 2 rear frame rails, deck lid, glass, rear bumper, taillights, headlight, grill, front bumper, hood, and there is some problem near the radiator. Now the insurance co. adjuster is coming out for a 2nd look.

ArthurS 2004-02-05 04:42 PM

I am crossing my fingers for you that they total it. I don't think that it would ever drive right again after that.

sperry 2004-02-05 04:57 PM

Awww... Debbie that sucks... that poor car!

Hopefully it'll be totalled so you can get an STi and go whomp on Matt in NAS.

Just don't get a white one...

NOW What the hell is that supposed to mean?? Dont get a white one?? :P :x :P

Hell, just keep it to tear apart as a project car. Rebuild it with a full cage & go fast parts instead of letting a body shop suck up all the money. It wouldn't be the first wagon to be turned into a racecar...

 I don't know how that'd work, having a car that might drive sorta sideways. That might be ok on a clockwise track, or for drifting!

Well, my semi-joking point was that all that body damage isn't important to a race car, and even if there's some frame damage it could still be useable. The only thing that really matters is if the suspension points are in alignment relative to each other, and even if they're not that can be fixed too. When you're building something to the level of a Solo-II Prepared/Modified car the body & frame gets all hacked up with a plasma cutter anyway, so it doesn't much matter what you start with.

Lots of people take totalled street cars and rebuild them into project race cars. The only question is whether you want to take the time & expense to build a dedicated racecar.

Total Loss

Got the official word this morning. From everything I've heard & read I guess this is a good thing.

Now to negotiate for replacement ...

(Mike - I asked them to give me a salvage quote too in order to understand the option of keeping car & selling to a dismantler.)

MikeSTI 2004-02-11 10:41 AM

well i talked to a few people and they said you would be luky to get 3500 for the totaled car so if they are going to give you what you need to buy a newly used car strate up then the salvage idea might not be a good one for this instance

sperry 2004-02-11 10:41 AM

RIP little blue wagon!! :(

You need an '04 white wagon... Theo needs company! :)

..actually, what class is the Forrester XT in?

dknv 2004-02-11 10:45 AM

since you planted the idea in my head, Scott, I might need a white STI.
j/k

$3,500 is probably not enough for salvage value, and thanks for checking Mike!
I'm supposed to go fetch the rest of my stuff outta the car today, too bad Dean's not in town to swap out the 6-disc. (Probably not allowed anyway, huh?)

Hey! I gotta semi-busted 6-disc (the back lighting is messed up, but that's it) you could swap in there to keep yours! I can get it to ya at lunch if you'd like!

dknv 2004-02-11 10:51 AM

I have no idea how to get the other one out - good idea tho.

MikeSTI 2004-02-11 10:52 AM

I can get it out

Yeah, it's a breeze:

- open cup holder, remove the 2 screws
- yank out the cupholder, and the two vents (just pull hard, it'll come off)
- now pull off the bezel that surrounds the radio and A/C controls
- remove the 6 screws (3 on each side) that hold the radio in
- pull the radio out, disconnect the antenna, the ground clip, and white plug

reverse the procedure to install other stereo.
