JoelK: I thorw side-Arm when I play disc golf. I bet you would kick ass the first time you went out b/c of your expierence.

Cool. Sidearm was the first throw I taught myself (after the standard backhand everyone learns). I liked it because I could skim the disc inches above the grass for several yards. The thumber is my best distance throw. I've gotten up to 80 yards on it. I'm not sure how well that throw would do with a driver, though. Oh well... I'm sure I'll find out one day. :)

So they don't do golf in the winter in CA... or you just find better things to do then?

Watch out, I am draging the topic back slightly to women and driving.

I have helped 50+ year old women who have been driving longer than I have been alive drive well with more confidence, and skill than most of the men out there.

The key is encourageing them, and letting them progress at thier own speed. Ok, maybe they need an occcasional kick to get them to push themselves. :D

In general women will be smoother and more precise in terms of line than men. The intoxication of the speed in general for men keeps them from focusing on being smooth and precise. While men overdrive the car, women tend to underdrive them. Bringing them comfportably both closer to the middle is the challenge.

Now this is not always the case, but is at least a fairly common scenario relative to the sexes.

I'm not going into that planet stuff, but the sexes learn differently. What motivates them is different. Going fast is not a motivator for some, but learning to be safer and better driver on the street might. And once confidence begins to build, you never know how they might progress or what new things might motivate them once they get started.

If you have failed to help someone to learn something, perhaps you should try another approach rather than giving up.

That is my $.02

Its not so much the driving, or the control of the car that I failed in teaching... its to keep your eyes open and not to have freakin tunnel vision.

We know. I can play golf, too... I just can't hit a wood worth anything. :)

Motivation in learning is an important factor. Good point.
