Actually, those stickers were worth 5 hours of dyno time... at the going $195/hr rate, that's nearly $1000 of go-fast money.

cody 2006-03-03 05:42 PM

That's cool, but I was referring to the fact that you'd put more money into those EDM lights (and Hella fogs/horns) than it sounds like you had put into go fast parts at that point. Am I wrong?

I got the EDMs for about $400, since insurance gave me $200+ for the busted stock one I was replacing. Plus, the EDMs put out about twice the light as the stock lights... sound's pretty functional to me.

Since a stock foglight cost $120 to replace (I broke one of those too), I bought two Hella 500 driving lights for $75, so I actually got a ton more light while saving money. And since I no longer had fog lights and missed them for driving over the pass in weather, I added the projector fogs. Again, all totally functional.

And if you don't think Hella Supertones are functional, please stand in front of my car for a demonstration.

Finally, even though you didn't mention it, the wing is a replica of the Spec-C wing, which was designed in the windtunnel to reduce lift and drag... though I don't know if the replica is exact enough to help a lot, it should be better than the stock wing that came with the car. But that's probably the most non-functional mod on my car.

By my count, that's about $1000 in parts. My suspension alone cost more than that.

That's cool too, but my point still stands. Painted sideskirts don't make the car faster, but neither does the rest of that shit. Just giving you a hard time. ;)

But it *does* make the car faster. The sponsorship got me a free EcuTek license and 5 hours of tuning, the lights mean I can go faster in the dark, and the wing supposedly helps drag/lift... everything is functional. Painted side skirts are purely cosmetic...

What was that you said to Dean about never arguing symantecs with you?

Other good ones:
Os and Ds (especially with the old-school blue/white 6 digit plates)
Vs and Ws
Bs and 8s
Fs and Es
Bs and Rs
Ts and Is

But it only really works if more than one person uses a combination of the same pair of letter/snumbers. If "88B8BB8" is the only one in the DMV database with all Bs and 8s... it doesn't help so much. ;)

This thread was much longer and more rambling than I anticipated when typing that first reply.

We could all get plates with slightly differing combinations of 8s and Bs.

GC8.Love 2006-03-03 11:45 PM

Saw someone with ScubyDu or something like that on 395S just past Parr today.

I have my username (kinda - GC8 Luv), but the DMV smushed it all together. I'll get it fixed when I have the patience to wait a month and a half more.

cody 2006-03-04 12:25 AM

SCUBYDU is an awesome plate.

No kidding! I basically thought it'd die after I pointed out the re-post!

My plate isn't that hard to read I think, but nobody can ever get it right! People BUTCHER it! Just ask Dean...

M3n2c3 2006-03-04 03:48 PM

Yeah, Dean knows all about license plate misreads.

True, but it would be funny to see a bunch of Subarus driving around in a pack with plates that all look the same at first glance

A1337STI 2006-03-05 08:49 AM

Yes i'm down :p lol we can all get one's like I010I01 some switches the 1's for I's someone only does half of them ;) lmao :p althogh if our cars are different colors , makes it may not work that well.

sperry 2006-03-05 12:11 PM

The DMV won't usually give out plates that are intentionally confusing. My friend w/ 1337 and 1001010 tried to get the WWVWWVW plate and they wouldn't let him.

However, I think a lot of it has to do with who ends up helping you at the counter. I tried to get "SECCSVX" for my SVX and the lady that was helping me actually went to her manager to ask if that was acceptable. They turned me down. I think if the person that was helping me was either stupid or cool, she would have just given it to me.

I've seen that before, but I think it was a plate back east... probably one of the NoVA or NESIC people on NASIOC.

You're right, Kc, back in MA.
