Here's the thing:

My guess is that they figured the damage would cost like $100-$200 total. Buy a mirror, screw it on. The car certainly doesn't look like it has $250 heated power mirrors...

Frankly, I'll be mildly surprised if they even pay me out for the repair. They could very easily go through their insurance, and just fire the guy that hit me to keep their premiums down. It's not like he accidentally backed into my mirror in a parking lot, he very easily could have hurt someone w/ his craptastic driving. I know if I were his boss, and I got the letter I sent, I would ask the guy to describe the accident, and if it were anywhere near the description in the letter, I'd fire him immediately.

My point is... I asked for $50 because I think I could get it. If I thought I could get $500 + $580 + money for additional damage, I would have asked for it, but at that cost I'd bet they just blow me off and I have to go through my insurance anyway. My insurance certainly won't give me $50 for my time.

As it is, I sent the letter at noon yesterday, and I have not had a phone call or fax response. I'll call them today, and if they're not ready to cut me a check, I'll go through my insurance. I want the car repaired ASAP... it still needs the transfer clutch fixed and I don't want it sitting around at Shaber when Cory has time in his work schedule to help me out.

^Listen, I feel you made a very good case with your letter and there is no way they shouldnt feel 100% responsible. But I dont think you should have put the whole $50 thing in there. If I hit someones car and then said to let me pay for it and they came back with an estimate and then $50 for "shipping & handling" I would tell them to suck a dick. You would have to do that reguardless of going through their insurance or not.

Also I want you to know that I do feel your pain, and if they dont pay you just wait about 3 months and then go to their warehouse and break the mirror off of all their trucks. By that time the cops cant link that incident to you and there is no insurance proof of them damaging your car in the first place. boom - pow - SURPRISE!

I hope you're kidding because that is about the dumbest thing I've ever read on this board. Why wouldn't you just have them meet you by the flag pole after school if you want to act like a 13 year old.

^wow, someone didnt get their coffee this morning. I guess from now on I should finish my jokes with L O L?

The best way to make people know your joking is to be funny to begin with.

Asking for compensation because I'm helping them out by not claiming this through the insurance is perfectly acceptable, IMO. They can pay me the $50 to take care of this myself, or they can pay whatever the cost of their raised insurance premiums will be for the next 3 years. I think that's probably more like $50/month at least.

And since they didn't bother to get in touch with me on Friday, the $50 is probably a moot point. I'm calling them Monday and if they're not ready to go, the car gets repaired via insurance.

At least it doesn't go through your insurance. They'd probably total it since that's more than it's worth. :p Jk man, that sucks hope it works out for you. I have always liked that car.

 Yeah, had the truck hit sheet metal, there's a good chance that would be it for the car. :(

I gotta keep my head on a swivel when I'm driving that damn thing! You know you've put too much work into a lost-cause car when you need a daily driver to keep you from driving your daily driver. Hopefully the SVX is a future classic. Barrett-Jackson 2025, here I come!

I'd be laughing harder at the DD for a DD comment if I hadn't bought a Legacy Turbo to keep miles off (hah) my OB :D

I plan on being one of those fat, bearded, balding guys wearing Levi's, modern wrap shades, and a ball cap that thinks paying a billion dollars for a yellow '68 Camero is fullfillment of their life's dream.

Not really, but a restored, MT converted SVX is on my list of things to do when I grow up.

Down boy, there are older gents with grey hair and are levi wearing, modern wrap shade, ball cap wearing folks on this board. ;)

They hadn't yet on Friday, and I doubt that Scott will find out until tomorrow.

I wish a would have kept the two '68 Camaros (and one Firebird) that I have owned. My first car - 68 Camaro, 327-300hp, cowl induction hood, 4.88 12-bolt posi rear, a quick-ass car back in 1982. Bought it for $600, but I had to change out the slicks and put an exhaust on it.

Anyway... I'm glad the accident wasn't worse, Scott.

I'm gonna be one of thse guys looking to overpay for a cherry '00-'01 RS in 15 or twenty years. And I knew it when I decided to get rid of it too. :(

sperry 2007-02-05 10:36 AM

Well, I just briefly talked to the guy from the place that owns the truck that hit me. He told me that a letter and a check went out in the mail today, so I should have it soon. It will be interesting to see what they're offering me... I didn't get a number over the phone, nor do I know if they're going to cover any additional damages if anything is found during the alignment.

Overheard at Subaru Meet: "Hey, aren't you that guy on Barrett-Jackson?"

Don't cash the check until after you know if there is additional damage. Cashing the check could be construed as accepting their offer.

Yeah, I wasn't going to do anything until the car's fixed. Then I'll just sign the check over to the body shop or something. Hopefully this will be a slam-dunk. 'Course when have I ever had a slam dunk on something car related.

You started out okay. I mean, at least the WRX was the car you fell in love with and threw money into. It could have been the T-Bird... or the Escort!

Actually, the T-Bird would have been a sweet car all done-up. Supercharged Cobra motor, rear-end, 6-speed tranny, sways, coilovers... that would have been a sweet daily driver (as long as it never rains or snows). I had all sorts of plans for it before I moved to Reno and realized that I would have crashed it the 1st time it snowed.

NevadaSTi 2007-02-05 01:32 PM

Yeah, don't knock a T-Bird.

Kevin M 2007-02-05 01:32 PM

Yeah we all make those plans for all our cars. Hell, I was going to put a 351 and 5 speed in the Aerostar and get some lowering spindles.
