Definitely unorthadox without tuning and such, but interesting findings:

Hey guys,

We've been busy over here at Ultimate Racing working on our new satin white pearl 08 WRX.

http://www.ultimate-racing.com/08WRX/08WRX1.JPG

A couple of weeks back we posted our initial stock dyno runs. Stock dyno numbers were great, and gave us a good idea of the potential of this new engine/turbo setup.

As with earlier findings by PDXTuning, we found that the 08 does indeed share the odd tuning traits of the 06+...AFR's stay lean well into full boost (~12psi), rich on top, with plenty of timing/afr dips. We, as well as many tuners we're sure, are eagerly awaiting EcuTEK's support for these 08's because this engine can definitely benefit from it! However, we were unsure how long this would take, and were all pretty bored of the 08 WRX in stock trim. So we began to mod.

First up was a simple Cold Air Intake. I know, I know...intake pipes generally do very little on Subaru's. But what if I told you that we made one that actually does something! It seems the 08 can definitely benefit from a good, free flowing CAI.

Keep in mind that all of these dyno charts are the result of bolt-on parts, no tuning, but with AFR's, and Timing being monitored closely to ensure safe performance.

Next up, obviously, a good free flowing exhaust. We decided to do something a little different than everyone else....build an exhaust with minimal bends, and the quickest possible exit. We used a 7" round muffler that's completely straight through. The 7" round design will help keep noise tolerable, while still retaining true straight through performance. We decided to angle it, as to save on bends (Don't worry guys, you'll like the way it looks from behind). And guess what? It's pleasant sounding too :)

These were the results of our Turboback exhaust (with high-flow catted downpipe), and CAI

Last up, a good Front Mount Intercooler. It's safe to say that NONE of the existing 02-07 FMIC kits on the market are going to fit this car. Here's our version. Reverse Flow the way everyone likes it.

This dyno shows the CAI, TB Exhaust w/ High-Flow Cat, and our FMIC kit.

Again, we are very pleased with the 08 WRX. It seems like a solid platform for power. Of course, we'll have to wait for EcuTEK before we can really start pushing the envelope. GT35R anyone?

So they have an AP for the 08 now?

Nick Koan 2007-10-26 04:39 PM

Not according to Cobb's website.

well shame on rallitek for false ads. http://www.rallitek.com/2008wrxtuning.html

cody 2007-10-27 11:28 AM

I didn't see a false add, just a pic. :p They know it's just a matter of time. Right now, I believe Utec and maybe some standalones are your only option for tuning an 08.

Perrin's using a Hydra on their GT30R 08 WRX.

These two articles make Baby Jesus cry. Did Jeff write these? Ugh!

I feel so bad for that car considering the awful paint job and stock fuel pump, not to mention the Dynocrap Dyno they're using.

Still, there's a couple nuggets of info embedded in them. Apparently the front sway has the previous year's fitment.

Placeholder page.

badrover 2007-11-01 11:42 AM

well, i found out how much the right front suspension assembly to an 08 WRX costs today....fuckin black ice.

Kevin M 2007-11-01 11:59 AM

Ouch...

cody 2007-11-01 12:39 PM

Very ouch. It's too bad you don't have the option of upgrading your springs/shocks yet.

Kevin M 2007-11-01 01:11 PM

Why wouldn't he?

Cause there aren't any aftermarket parts available yet?

Must suck buying cars made in the current decade.

cody 2007-11-01 01:32 PM

What are you talking about Kevin? Most of us bought cars made in the current decade and have had no problem finding mods.

But its a lot more fun buying 3 cars that are more than 10 years old, and taking 6 months to make a single running one.

cody 2007-11-01 01:38 PM

Sounds like a hoot. :P

I have a much harder time finding parts for my '94 than for my '02.

But that's 'cause the age of the car has very little to do with aftermarket availability.

cody 2007-11-01 02:26 PM

Well, unless you have a new WRX.

Not everyone had their parts forged in the fire of Mt. Doom.

That's not necessarily true. Some of us also have to buy washers along with our struts. :P

cody 2007-11-01 03:36 PM

 My car's not afraid of washers and zip ties.

I was making a joke about my old, crappy car(s). I didn't think it was possible to be taken literally.

I had a set of wheels that were.

Sorry, but you did sound a bit clueless, asking why he couldn't mod his suspension and all. :P
