Wow, I don't know if anyone else has been following the Battlestar series, but it blows up into thoroughbred awesomeness by the end of the season. We just finished watching the finale last night... dizam! 8)

sperry 2005-03-20 05:56 PM

 You watch TV.

Dang. I taped Friday's since I went out of town, and haven't watched it yet. How many more episodes are there this season?

AtomicLabMonkey 2005-03-21 10:57 AM

I think there should be two more, eps. 12 & 13. Since they have already been broadcast in Britain ahead of the US schedule, I just downloaded them off the internet. 8)

dknv 2005-04-01 02:06 PM

I have to wait until 7 to see the finale. :( I better remember to set the vcr!

bump.

sitting here bored in Denver so I picked up the box set of season one + the miniseries.

I gotta say, wow. I definitely need to set the moxi up to record this (and finish watching the rest of season one).

AtomicLabMonkey 2005-09-29 07:54 AM

It's pretty fucking tight. The production quality seemed to drop a little after the opening miniseries, but that's predictable.. not bad at all though. I still watch every Friday.

Dean 2005-09-29 09:46 AM

I don't know guys, the couple episodes I saw were OK at best. One was the one where the military took the Presidents ship by force, and a fighter flew up a sewer pipe or some such to destroy a Cylon base.

Then there were two of the characters hiding fom the Cylons in a hay loft in a barn, and a big fight for what appeared to be Cupid's arrow where the really fast cyborg allows itself to fall off a ledge and happens to land on a spike of some form.

I'm sorry, pretty cheesy IMHO. But to give you something to give me crap about... I much prefer Stargate SG-1. Only seen one episode of the Atlantis version, so to early to tell on that.

Oh good lord, the Stargate series are awful. Mediocre at best acting, completely wierd plots & freaky ass aliens.. for something that was originally supposed to be grounded in reality (according to the movie)? I can't believe it's still on the air it's so bad. :P

Also you have to watch from the very beginning pilot to really know what is going on. The quality goes up and down a bit from episode to episode like most TV shows.

See, I knew you's addreciate that opening. Hey, at least one thing is for sure. SciFi knows who their audience is.

I wish they would dust off Star Trek and make it their own. Except where they went off the deep end with the Kzinti or whatever, I kind of liked the Enterprise series. I'd like to see some more about the early days of the Federation.

The Kzinti? That's from Larry Niven's books..

The Ringworld series is tight... that's a plot they could have easily made into a good TV series, just plop the main characters down on the ring and have them adventure from town to town in an attempt to get their ship back up and running.

No, you are thinking of the Kzin, Inteligent large Cat/Tiger like creatures from Niven's Known Space and Man Kzin Wars series.

The Kzinti are 4 inteligent species that evolved on the same planet in the void and tried to destroy man kind because the makers of the void from another dimension or some such told them to.

MikeSTI 2005-09-29 12:01 PM

someone should put a *warning* on this thread

The Kzin in Known Space are "the Kzinti": http://www.larryniven.org/kzin/society.htm

They've been integrated into the Star Trek universe ('cause of some cartoon in the '70s), as well as being ripped off in the Wing Commander universe as the Kilrathi.

Oh, and this thread has now reached a nerd-alert rating of 9/10.

Dean 2005-09-29 12:11 PM

Sorry, on Enterprise it was the "Xindi"

To much Niven on the mind...

No wonder I've enjoyed it so much. What's it take for 10/10?

Dean 2005-09-29 12:42 PM

Nerd Penalty: Incorrect quote from an unrelated movie/series.

Well played, but I call a nerd penalty anyway. Incorrectly quoting a movie/series not related to the thread is punishable by having to watch 2 episodes of Oprah.

I believe our nerd-penalties cancel out on this one.

"I don't think so Tim." -Home Improvement

"Only you think did I choose wrong. Switched goblets I did while you turned. Fell victim to classic blunder you did. First is 'Not get in tongue fight with Jabba.' But of most importance is 'To challenge not a Jedi master when death is on the line.'" - Star Wars and The Princess Bride can they coexist?

Quote:

INTERIOR: DEATH STAR -- HALLWAY LEADING TO MAIN FORWARD BAY.

Ben hurries along one of the tunnels leading to the hangar
where the pirateship waits. Just before he reaches the hangar,
Darth Vader steps into view at the end of the tunnel, not ten
feet away. Vader lights his saber. Ben also ignites his and
steps slowly forward.

VADER: I've been waiting for you, Obi-Wan. We meet again, at last. The
circle is now complete.

Ben Kenobi moves with elegant ease into a classical
offensive position. The fearsome Dark Knight takes a defensive
stance.

VADER: When I left you, I was but the learner; now I am the master.

BEN: Only a master of evil, Darth.

The two Galactic warriors stand perfectly still for a few
moments, sizing each other up and waiting for the right
moment. Ben seems to be under increasing pressure and strain,
as if an invisible weight were being placed upon him. He
shakes his head and, blinking, tries to clear his eyes.

VADER: You should not have come back.

Ben makes a sudden lunge at the huge warrior but is checked
by a lightning movement of The Sith. A masterful slash stroke
by Vader is blocked by the old Jedi. Another of the Jedi's
blows is blocked, then countered. Ben moves around the Dark
Lord and starts backing into the massive starship hangar. The
two powerful warriors stand motionless for a few moments with
laser swords locked in mid-air, creating a low buzzing sound.

VADER: Your powers are weak, old man.

BEN: You can't win, Darth. If you strike me down, I shall become more
powerful than you can possibly imagine.

Their lightsabers continue to meet in combat.
Actually, what is interesting is that many of the "scripts" I found on the Internet do not have the "You should not have come back" line at all. May have to pull out the old VHS and look tonight.

I noticed the same thing. The best plot summary site I found had my above quotes. http://www.filmsite.org/starw3.html

I think we still cancel out each other until the actual film is broken out...

khail19 2005-09-29 03:15 PM

Wow, you guys got 10/10 without any Xena references at all! I think the Princess Bride bit takes it to 11!! Bravo!

Well, I didn't fire up the Betamax for the original tape copy I have, but the MPEG I have does not have the "You should not have come back." line at all.

That will teach us to trust the Internet...

Perhaps the director cut version does.

Lets make this thread a 10 out of 10.

I meant to, you know, like do stuff yesterday, but I didn't. I ended up watching all 13 episodes on season one in a row. From about 10am to 11pm roughly (with short breaks for bathroom needs, eating, jumping jacks and windsprints).

AtomicLabMonkey 2005-10-10 08:57 AM

That is awesome.

Nick Koan 2005-10-10 09:03 AM

I just couldn't stop. It was an addiction. When does season two come out on DVD?

I guess I could start watching/recording the episodes on SciFi, but I don't want to start watching in the middle of season 2 if I can help it.

AtomicLabMonkey 2005-10-10 09:26 AM

They're doing a two-part season this year; the first half just ended a few weeks ago and it will start again in December I think. You can always download the episodes off Bittorrent... :D

Nick Koan 2005-10-10 09:28 AM

True. Actually my roommate said he's got them all downloaded off BT, so I don't need to go hunt them down.

I just a picky bitch and don't like watching TV from my computer chair

No wonder our internet access is so hit or miss.

Really, who watches so much TV that you have to d/l it off the internet when you've got a DVR?

Dean 2005-10-10 02:40 PM

I just finished grabbing all three seasons of Pen & Teller's BULLSHIT! Showtime series... Only saw bits and pieces of some inthe past, but they are pretty good.

How is BT working for you guys? in the early days it sucked for finding anything, so I use eMule mostly.

Nick Koan 2005-10-10 07:30 PM

To be honest, I don't use any BitTorrent trackers to search for stuff to download. I pretty much only use BitTorrent when a link on a webpage is provided, mostly game demos, trailers and Linux ISOs.
