I sent an email to John Evans asking if there was pre-registration and what time I should be there. Here's his response:

There is no pre-registration for students. Arriving slightly before 8:00AM will be best to get your car tech'd and registration done. Bring a Snell 95 or later helmet if you have one. We have loaners but they will be in short supply during the school. Dress warmly as it is often cold and windy at Stead this time of year.

Great thanks for the info. wonder if i order a helmet if it will come in time , guess i'll find out , my luck i'll spend a bunch of time running down to reno on thrusday to pick up rims, and get summer tires mounted and then work late, then it will rain :( rain would be fun to drive in, but sucks to drive all around the sierras to get a set ready asap and not need em. lol

cody 2006-03-28 12:26 PM

I PM'd Aaron about his fender roller but he hasn't responded. Anybody know if he will be at the class? I just need a tiny bit of exra clearance for my tires.

Kevin M 2006-03-28 12:28 PM

No response because he's in Tokyo today. ;) I think he said he'd be up here for the event depending on weather.

If you order by 3 PM or so today from a west coast vendor, it almost certainly will get here in time. Better to have your new tires ready and not need them than vice versa. ;) And rain, schmain... we ran in snow two years ago. It's still fun. Well, driving is... being an instructor sucks ass. :p

Cool, thanks Kevin.

A1337STI 2006-03-28 01:04 PM

thanks BanSUVs ;)

i'm going to order a helmet before 3pm. i think from soloracers.com as it was mentioned in a diff thread as a place with great prices. i'm worried that a full helmet will cut down on my visibility a lot versus the open face. But in the very rare/fluke chance that something goes through the windshiled eye protection could be a good thing, or is it way to hard to see with the visor down ? (108 , versus 138 ) or is that something i really don't have to worry about ? (if my windshield breaks i'll definatly stop and quit for the day )

Kevin M 2006-03-28 01:29 PM

Soloracer.com is located in Ohio; I doubt they'd get your shipment to you by friday without paying for 2 day air. Summit carries G-Force stuff don't they?

Open vs. closed face is really a matter of personal preference in closed cars. Open is more comfortable, but closed is nice if you have a big off at Lovelock or RFR. ;)

Don't forget to set you clocks forward for saturday. Day Light Savings

A1337STI 2006-03-28 03:00 PM

Thanks a bunch BanSuvs , called summit and reserved the last medium open faced helmet they had in stock. (didn't realize they had a sparks store front) This way i can try it on before i buy it (sizing chart says i should be a medium ) , perfect :) worst case it doesn't fit and i go with a loaner

Kevin M 2006-03-28 04:16 PM

Well, worst case is it doesn't fit and you end up with a loaner that doesn't fit. But glad you got yourself all set. You should be okay, my helmet is a medium and I wear a 7-1/4 to 7-3/8 hat. Or at least I used to, I am getting older so it might be 7-1/2 now!

Oh, actually, we Are having a solo2 are Lovelock this year?

Kevin M 2006-03-29 08:13 AM

Matt's windows were down for his 'exhibition' run at Lovelock. :) And yeah, I think we have 1 Solo at Lovelock.

A1337STI 2006-03-29 03:17 PM

Well i think they are out of close faced in medium, but i'll check that out. if not i can always use my snowboard googles (or just some sun glasses) :) or uhm .. windows up ?

Pat you run when the track is the wettest. The rest of us will wait for clear skies.

Pat R. 2006-04-03 09:09 AM

I won't mind if its wet as long as there's no gravel. Should I hit up one of my customers to loan me a mongo blower for the weekend?

Nick Koan 2006-04-03 09:13 AM

According to the little schedule in my wallett

WY GB on Sat.
GW YB on Sun.

W = AS, BS, CS, DS, ES, FS, GS, HS
Y = Novice, SM, XP, CP, DP, AM, BM, CM, FM, Karts
B = SS, ASP, BSP, SM2, SU, DM, EM
G = Novice, CSP, DSP, ESP, FSP, STS, STS2, STX

Actually, what would it take to find a power broom? I don't think anything shory of a jet-dryer will clear off that tarmac, and then we'd be making a bigger mess blowing dust and gravel all over the runway.

This is what we really need:

Pat R. 2006-04-03 09:27 AM

That's a sweet helmet!

Actually, the blowers work better than brooms.

Kevin M 2006-04-03 09:43 AM

If it's more effective than a pushbroom, bring it on dude.

I'm just imagineing the massive dust clowd and hail of rocks a big blower would create... two things most pilots don't appreciate at their airport.

cody 2006-04-03 10:15 AM

What class would a street sweeper run in? I'll drive it. :P

Nope, they split up the novices between the two groups to balance the numbers. I don't think you can pick and choose.

Yes, you can pick either group.

Yes, you can get twice as many runs. It is an extra $10 if you want to run in the afternoon and you have already run in the morning.

A1337STI 2006-04-04 03:57 PM

If we run in both groups do we get to pick the best run out of all 6-10 runs for use in points ? (novice points for now, saturdays goal. 1 pt ) in either case that's a lot of Extra seat time :) (a great mod i hear)

Kevin M 2006-04-04 04:09 PM

As a novice, you aren't running for points. That's the idea. ;)

cody 2006-04-04 04:33 PM

Oh now I see why you guys are forcing us to run Novice. <_<

Just Kidding! :P

A1337STI 2006-04-04 05:24 PM

Ooooh. So we can Switch out of Novice (at some point) and then we can start collecting points (if we finish in 10th place or higher in our class) . wish the manual or the renoscca had a section on points and what not . I think I understand it now though :) so if i switch out of Novice after 4 events i can run the last 12 and treat the first 4 as my drops . (so i'll end up with how ever many points i get) Cool Beans.

also i noticed there is some sorta event in san fran, 15/16 IIRC (could have been 22/23 though) it was in one of the hand outs, i've was already planning on going down to SF one of those 2 weekends. our SCCA membership is good when we travel? do we get a card or something to prove we are a member? (lol anything for extra seat time right? lol)

cody 2006-04-04 05:27 PM

If you joined the SCCA, you should get a membership card in the mail. You have to add a self pic and get it laminated though...I still gotta do that.

Kevin M 2006-04-04 05:34 PM

The pic isn't required for anything we're doing.

cody 2006-04-04 05:36 PM

Oh sweet. The lady at registration on Sat. said I needed to, but I trust ya.

Kevin M 2006-04-04 05:42 PM

I'm sure there are things it would be needed for (like keeping you from ripping us off with someone else's ID card :p ) but I've never even had it mentioned to me. I suppose Track Trials and Hill Climbs might require it, and road racing.

A1337STI 2006-04-04 06:51 PM

Hill Climbs? is that around here ? will i need my card with proper photo and lamination for out of region events ? specifically the april 16th San Fran region Solo ? (i was already planning on going down to SF that weekend sooo ) ;)

Kevin M 2006-04-04 07:02 PM

Hill Climbs are way down the road man. There's nobody on this board even qualified for an SCCA Level 4 Club Trial, aka Hill Climb, except Gary Sheehan. ;) And I don't think you need to get a photo on your ID to get into an SFR event. Your membership card + DL should be enough.

I've run with SFR, and yes, you'll need your SCCA membership card. When did you register? (If it was just last weekend, you could contact the membership person at the scca.com website, I'd probably call them if I were you, and ask them to fax you a confirmation letter that you are a member - If you want to run in SFR.)
Keep in mind - SFR typically has 3 runs total.

Kevin M 2006-04-05 07:17 AM

You have to be a member to run with SFR at all? Man, they really suck. I don't think I'd drive ten miles to run with SFR for fee. :|

They have to do that because they'd have 500 people showing up to run, and then the actual paying members would have to contend to run. That wouldn't be fair.

For non-members, there's always American Autox.

Points are regional in nature. They're documented in the Reno SCCA Supplemental Rules:

http://www.renoscca.com/results/2006...lo2%20Sups.htm

And I second Debbie's recommendation of American AutoX. AAX is run by a great group of people... they're not quite as pro-active as the Reno SCCA group as far as helping out new drivers IMO, but if you ask for help, someone will always be willing to point you in the right direction. In addition, the events they run out at Castle AFB in Atwater tend to be amazing, high-speed, extremely fun courses. I try to make at least one of their events every year. Somehow, I managed to keep my annual tech through 2004 with them, but lost it in '05 'cause my car was down for so long. :(

Also, AAX has some *incredible* cars. They're very "American Iron" in nature and there are some serious C-Prepared beasts out there. Keep an eye on the Maier Racing cars... Mike Maier is consistantly in the running for the top spot at Nationals in his CP mustang.

Check out their website: http://www.americanauto-x.com/

Well i checked and there are no phone numbers listed on the renoscca.com contact page. And i just checked my mail. And i do not have have proof of being a member. Does anyone happen to have a contact number of someone who may be able to fax me proof of membership?

Thank You

Thank you. Their office is closed today for a holiday. Guess i'm SOL, I've got all the hand outs from the stead events, But nothing that specifically prooves i'm a member. I'll leave a message with the national office. Thanks again Dean.

Well i was persitant and found this :
