How did the night race go? You drink beer? We need to stand over the kart in my garage and drink a couple while I bounce questions off ya.

zpeed 2007-08-21 11:51 AM

We did great at the night race. Both me and my son finish 2nd. Woo-Hoo my 1st shifter trophy. Last time was about 10 years ago in another class.

After I sell some stuff, hope this will be my helmet for next year. Arai SK-5

zpeed 2007-08-31 08:14 AM

We'll go out and practice on Monday around 10 to noon. Do you want to come and play?

Joeyy 2007-08-31 12:37 PM

I have to work all weekend but if Sunday night isn't to crazy I'll stop by.
My kart isn't ready but I have plenty of questions. Would you PM your cell phone.

Sorry, I missed you Nat. Another fellow was at the track at 10am so the gate was open. After a little hassle with fuel flow I got her up and running. It was nice to get it out on the track. I need to move the gas/brake pedals back or move the seat foward. Did you make it out in the afternoon? I'm off next Fri, Sat, Sun & Mon. If you'ld like to go to the track please let me know.

zpeed 2007-09-04 08:11 AM

No Sorry, I did not make it out. My wife have emergency plan "a Labor day sale". Next 2 week is air race so they will close the track for safety for 2 weeks. NNKC have a race on Sun Sep 23, so Sat will be lots of people practice. I should be there Sat afternoon after my normal training.

wrxkidid 2007-11-05 07:29 PM

Well im looking into buying a Kart as well. Are there still races going on or are they all pretty much wrapped up for the season?

Joeyy 2007-11-05 08:48 PM

Sorry, I can't use the word K#$* until post 1,000. Maybe after post 1,000, we can talk.

wrxkidid 2007-11-05 08:52 PM

haha ok.

This season is over. Start again next year around March. But I not go out til the weather warmer like 2nd or 3rd race. I get ready to winterize my kart.

What kind of kart are you looking for 80 shifter, 125 shifter, Rotax? What kind of racing auto-x, sprint, road race?

wrxkidid 2007-11-06 05:34 PM

Im looking for a 125 shifter for autoX mostly. Seeing as I have to sell my car I might as well buy a toy.

100_Percent_Juice 2007-11-06 10:42 PM

^your going to need to make the lift a little more narrow for the kart. Also you will need to pad the entire thing with 3" foam.

Joeyy 2008-01-30 01:11 AM

Yep, I'm over 1,000 posts so I'll go back to talking kart.

Monthly meeting for the kart track is coming up next Tuesday. Between having the night off and just getting paid, I'll be putting down the membership dues for the kart track. Hope the weather gets a little bit better soon so I can start turning some laps.

zpeed 2008-01-30 07:43 AM

Let me know before you going out there. We can play catch-up.

Joeyy 2008-01-30 11:45 PM

Sounds like fun. I don't think I could keep up with ya but I'll try anything once. What class is your son going to run in this year?

zpeed 2008-01-31 07:55 AM

Still looking for a kart for him. I want him to go to Gazelle class but can't find any use one. So maybe get stuck with jr1-2cycle. Which has a Comer 80cc engine. The same engine in the kart that chase you down at the track in your VDO.

Joeyy 2008-02-18 11:37 AM

Out at the track Sunday morning just to watch and attempt to soak some knowledge into my thick skull. Tell you what, 110 octane burning through a 2cycle in the morning is like heaven. Love it!..:D

wrxkidid 2008-02-18 03:55 PM

Nothing like napalm in the morning! O wait...

Joeyy 2008-02-20 11:23 AM

Work day on the kart. Up for today, re build brake master cylinders, fuel filter and majority of fuel lines. Hope to ready the next time the weather brakes for some track time.

zpeed 2008-02-22 12:16 AM

Next week we'll meet the guy that gonna sell Jr. kart for Turbo. I'll be out there but don't know what day yet. Still have to wait and see the weather.

Joeyy 2008-02-22 12:28 AM

I picked up my key to the gate just the other day. Picking up my brake parts and new fuel tank on Monday or Tuesday. Looks like most of next week will be nice. I can run almost any morning before noon if I get all my parts in on Monday.

Dude, it's alive!... Brake master cyllinders done, fuel lines done, fuel filter done, nemesis black paint done and a garage full of smoke. Yep it's out to the track for the first time in 08, hope I survive.

MikeK 2008-03-04 10:29 AM

That looks fun as hell. And by fun I mean suicidal.

NevadaSTi 2008-03-04 10:34 AM

Hey, if you don't mind me asking, how much money do you have in that thing so far? Just curious, you can pm me if you wish.

Looks like a shit ton of fun!!

k-dogg39 2008-03-04 10:54 AM

Not as nice as the Wagon :P , But looking good! I'm sure you will have a great time on it this year!

zpeed 2008-03-04 03:24 PM

I should be ready to practice by 3/22 or 3/23. Turbo get a used Jr-1 kart so he need practice too. Want to come out and play?

I'm working at 1430 on the 22&23 but I can run at around 11a.m. before work. Put down alot of laps today and my body is beat. Freind estimated that I was going over 70 on the front straight. Turn one was giving me problems getting back up to speed (choosing the correct gear).

Picked up the kart for 2500. I had to pick up a full face helmet and a abrasion suit (you can just run in jeans and jacket). My budy Wess has been into dirt bikes for years and can help me re-build the top end when it comes time. So really, only the initial cost until later this month when I buy my trailer. But again you could just put in the back of a truck like I did today.

Some pictures of the "new" kart. Its first race with me will be in October. Monday or Tuesday will be filled with lots of laps and lots of shake down to set the kart up for me. My class will be TAG Novice in the 09 season out at Desert Parkway.

zpeed 2008-09-14 05:45 AM

Nice looking kart. Did you sell your old one?

Joeyy 2008-09-14 07:38 AM

Have not sold the shifter yet. If you know anybody looking for one please drop them my information. The big black X will find it's way onto my helmet for the last race of the last year. A trip down the hill this winter may be required to drop my other two X races. That way, starting in the rear of the field at the start of next year will not be a factor in points. Still need to pick up an external starter and battery charger.

Joeyy 2008-09-15 05:05 PM

Out to the track at high noon for the "virgin" run of the TAG kart. Have to see if the set up is cool or if we have to go back to neutral and start over. The seat on the shifter was to big for me. It's nice to have a seat that fits. Maybe my ribs will survive a little longer in the Ital.

Ran our first TAG race on Sunday. Your first few races, you are required to put a big black X on the back of your helmet and rear number plate. They call you an X head. Practice went well. Qualified infront of a couple of folks but had to start the first heat in the back because of my X head status.

First heat was able to make a couple passes and kept it clean (six laps).
Second heat they inverted some folks but yep started in the back again. Made a couple more clean passes and then sat in fourth as we all became jammed up behind a slower kart. The guy in second was racing for a championship and did not want to take any chances and the fellow directly infront of me almost lost his exhaust and was black flagged (8 laps).

The main started with the start getting waved off and yep started in the back again but that's the way it goes until the X is gone. The championship leader started to my inside on the back row because of his earlier DNF (tail pipe issue). Followed him through some traffic (nose to bumper fun). He became tangled up with a slower kart, so I moved on passed them and into third. By this time the two leaders had left us. You have to get your passing done quick or the front row is gone!.. Ran out the rest of the laps in third but he passed me on the last lap. Made it back to his bumper in the next corner and had a bad thought about sticking my nose to his right rear corner but thought better. Finished up the main in fourth and with a clean nose. The following pictures are from the main event.

cody 2008-10-06 11:33 AM

Holy Karp, that looks/sounds fun! :D

Dean 2008-10-06 11:52 AM

Sweet dude!!! Great job... All that driving a big American bus every day and a relatively soft suspensioned wagon have honed your skills so a quick responding kart is just a play thing first time out... :)

Congratulations.

I keep telling everyone that the crappier car you learn to drive fast, the better you will be in a good car/kart...

[Scott's rant about crappy cars are just crappy and karts are not cars will begin here in the near future] :)

cody 2008-10-06 12:05 PM

Hey! WRX wagons are not crap, especially soft suspensioned ones!

MPREZIV 2008-10-06 07:35 PM

Sunday's SM class standings would say otherwise Mr. Cody...

1: Not Wagon
2: Not Wagon
3: Not Wagon
4: Wagon with "stiff suspension"
5: YOU! :P

Heading down to Jim Russell kart track at Infineon on Sunday to set the kart up on the National track. Sunday after next we'll head down the hill again for one of the Jim Russell races.

Yep, I'm hooked.

Rollilng into the start...plant your front bumper against the dude or chick in front of you...let him/her brake for you both while you drop your accelerator and burn your clutch...green flag drops and both of you rocket off passed everyone else.

Anybody thinking about karting should drop me a line. The Norhtern Nevada Kart Club is full of great people and sorry but running wheel to wheel is better than chasing the clock.

Pictures from the trip to Infineon to follow. End of the season = lots of great deals on used karts. Now is the time to pick up your equipment ladies. PM me with any questions about the kart club.

Additional information...with a club membership, you get a key to the track. Yep your track time is unlimited. If you have not guessed we can always use new members. NNKC is the home of the Two Cycle Grand Nationals. Get in on the fun today!.. (your ribs will only hurt a little)

zpeed 2008-10-18 12:47 PM

This is how I see pro and con on both.
Kart pro: Real wheel to wheel racing. practice, qualify and 3 heats beat 5-6 laps on 1 min course.
Kart con: Equipment is pricey, you need to tow a trailer or pickup truck. On race weekend usually I pack and get everything ready by Friday night. Saturday head out to the track 2-3 hours to set up your kart. Then Sun is a whole day race. That is it your whole weekend gone.

Auto-X pro: Use you own car just a few upgrade will do. You done in half a day so you wife don't get mad and you can take her out to dinner after the race.
Auto-X con: 5-6 laps that is it.

I do both 2-3 years auto-x, then switch back to gokart. Now without a job my wife said no job no play. So until next year. PDX maybe!!

A1337STI 2008-10-21 12:37 PM

nice write up about the Karting. I'de be interested if they had rentals, but my poor lil rally car needs too many things to buy a kart.

I agree with what dean said about driving a crappy car. I feel like driving my 93 on stock springs and dampers (rally crossing it, and full stage rally on 15 year old springs + blown dampers) has helped out my learning a bit. :D

Tag kart is almost ready for the 09 season. Going down to Davis for a double header in late March to get rid of my X head races, aka rookie stripe. Worked on fitting the new body work and will pick up my engine later this week. Sorry for the crappy cellphone picture.

Joeyy 2009-06-07 09:26 PM

Northern Nevada Kart Club held it's fourth race of the 2009 season today.

Ran a 51.5 second lap in the main for my best time of the year. Had a great battle for third but ended up just off the podium in fourth.

Next weekend is our big IKF event. If you want to see some great racing and possibly some future stars of the sport, you should come out. I'll be working the grid on Sunday. Come on out and say hello and enjoy the wheel to wheel action at Desert Parkway.

zpeed 2009-06-07 11:42 PM

I'll work on grid on Sat with my son.

Joeyy 2009-06-23 08:43 AM

Wow, what a huuuuuug off. Kart is brown, suit brown, inside and out of my helmet brown. Have to take the kart all the way down to the frame and start cleaning. I've been off before but never actually tasted the dirt.
