... Did I miss something in the afternoon? :( morning seemed uneventful.
|
Just a ton of smack talk and MikeK embarrassing everyone else with his insanely low times. It was sure fun having all the old players back in action. Mike, Dean and Kevin were just flying in TSM this afternoon... Plus Vic and I will have an awesome MINI battle this year.
|
The lowest I saw was the BM racer at 55.xx, and the SSP Vette at 57.xx (maybe 56 for him?).
Still waiting to see what my third run was - the clock was showing 70.x and I'm pretty sure I beat my other 59.8 on that run. Still slow, I know I can drop that if I just stay cleaner. Need more seat time... |
Results are up.

Aren't I (T)BSP?
Jesus there's some good times in the afternoon group! |

According to the rulebook, no... I think they upgraded STIs to BSP since Matt was running his. But, I honestly don't see a reason I'm not in STU.
Coilovers Dropped ride height Camber plates Sway bars Rear strut bar, front lower arm bar Non-metal suspension bushings Down pipe and full exhaust Factory ECU engine tune Wheel size is 17x8, STU is unlimited 245 tires allowed I think the only things not allowed are the seats and trunk? |
We checked Date codes, Mike's early '06 235 RE-01s were faster than my mixed late '07 and '08 255 615s. :)
Had a blast though. Great to have my car running again. We may talk smack, but I honestly really enjoy hanging out with and competing with the bunch of you. I do think Matt needs a car that can compete in Raw time though. PAX is for Pussies. :) |

Generally you tell us what your class is, and we accept it unless someone protests you, which they won't do. You are right, ASP is not for STis. Should you be in STU or BSP? I thought I remembered seeing BSP on your car today. |

Cobb has both full boost and STU legal accessport maps on their web site for cars with just an exhaust swap. |

Man... I feel like I missed out! Maybe Matt can get my car tuned up before the next event...
Here's what I did all day instead of racing: |

* Nevermind, pretty sure my tune has a dramatically modified boost map, so I'm ASP, which was a move made this year, from BSP.
I can't drop the coin on an accessport to swap around tunes, so I'll stick with it. |
I've CLEARLY got some work to do, in order to get up where I want to be in the results! That damn car is hard to keep up with! I can't turn the steering wheel fast enough...
Hopefully I'll be able to sort things out, overcome the loss of the street tire factor, and put down some respectable times! |

Had a great time this weekend. I also have some catching up to do in my car. I felt like I was late on everything. I know quite a few spots where I left some time out there. Slowly knocking the rust off. |

What did you guys think about the surface? With respect to race tires? (Asking, because John Perry told me the Sac guys wanted his feedback about conditions - and while he did not say it out loud, the impression I have is that some are feeling it's still too gravelly for their tastes.) I thought there *were* sandy areas that were slippery, but there were areas with plenty of grip and plenty of fun on my street tires. |
Quote:
If you got out wide at all you were definitely in a pile of gravel. From the start to the pivot cone was treacherous off line. The back half of the course was really grippy though. I didn't feel like there was any gravel from the chicago box all the way to the start of the bleachers. I am not convinced that race tires would be better than street tires though. |
I noticed some gravel into the "third" slalom cone, but I was still on it, not enough to make me back off...
And that first few turns were bad, I was consistently off line turning in too early too hot, I knew better but never corrected, and slid through the first, killing my chances of lining up the second turn. I was going way wide into the pivot cone and it was ok, but getting up on top of the cone was a little loose. First time actually running hard on a decent setup with power steering, so wtf do I know though... |
Quote:
As far as grip goes, the East end of the course was AWFUL for me... I couldn't go anywhere in that gravel. There was no keeping my car on a clean line, and no matter how slow I tried to go through the first Left, or how gently I applied the throttle out of the Pin Turn, I was counter-steering. The West end of the course is where I was wishing for faster hands. Tons of grip down there. If the entire course had been "west end grippy" I'd bet I wouldn't have ended up 20something in PAX. |

I'm gonna stick it out and see what happens though. I am willing to throw away a whole season, if that's what it comes to, in order to learn a thing or two! |

I wonder if the grippy and gravelly areas will be in the same locations at every event. |
There's a good chance we're going to get the sweepers back out there for future events. It wasn't terrible without them, but getting off the line really did kill your run.
|
The vacuum only sweepers I saw out there last year suck IMHO (pun intended). The ones with side sweepers, large rotating brush and vacuum are much better for that type of heavy debris.
The first half of the course was tighter than the second, thus the additional debris. There really was only 1 fast line for the second half too, so the debris was there, but off line. |
Paging k-dogg39... where's that damn picture!?

Awesome, Cory. I fucking love it.
Autocross is about the only thing I miss about Reno...though the super cush job was nice too. Wish I was still there to whoop ass on y'all. ;) |

Didn't see these before... Thanks Kevin!
I saw you take that pic when I was waiting for a rerun... Fuming that I just threw away what felt like my best run yet because a cone was out of place. Gonna need to steal these... |
Fun and challenging course today. I can't believe that CRZ may have taken pax.

It's kind of stupid that the biggest challenge was that everyone else was running too tight of a line and left marbles on the actual line. And by "actual line" I mean the line I have to run because of a complete lack of horsepower. I think next time I'm gonna show up in the Outback and run in FSP to take PAX. :p |

Damn so close to TTOD!
|
So close!
My car does not like autox. Blew out the rear camber again. Slotted strut hole keeps slipping. Need to find a solution for that, and get an alignment. And raise it, cause I'm rubbing the top of my wheel sells. |

See this for ride heights for probably -'07 Imprezas. http://www.seccs.org/forums/showthread.php?t=3283 |
I have plates and adjustable lat links. But... Need to keep the slotted strut hole from slipping. I'll take a set of camber bolts in to Cory this time around.
Ironically enough, my times kept getting better, as one side got positive. |
