And half the calories of a regular tune...

Alright Boys, don't hate me, but I'm reviving this thread. Seems Cobb's Protuner supposedly has all the benefits of ECUTek and some advantages such as:
There are three main advantages of the ProTUNER/AccessPORT platform over an Ecutek reflash: * The AccessPORT has the ability to store and seemlessly switch between multiple maps (street, high octane, valet mode, anti-theft, etc). * ProTUNER's live tuning and integrated logging features facilitate the same precision tunes Ecutek reflashes are known for in a fraction of the time, saving the customer time and money. * If you ever decide to sell your car or decide to go with a different engine management solution, it will be easy to sell the AccessPORT and recover part of your investment without having to swap ECU's and with no downtime. So I was planning on going with ECUTek, but I'm looking for suggestions. Anybody know if Nate is doing Protunes yet? |
We're not set up with ProTuner yet, though we're trying to figure it out with Cobb.
On point 1, true. On point 2, it's going to be a hair more expensive than Ecutek becuase you have the initial hardware purchase, the tuning isn't going to be any meaningful account slower or faster, and you are talking a bit more time for multiple complex maps (IE, street gas, race gas, etc). Being able to divorce the Protuner is a nice feature, no doubt. For those wondering, the reason we're not running Protuner yet is that we're also working on the Ecutek user-tune/map switching solutions. While we want to support as many different customers as possible, there are many considerations around the different types of software. licensing agreements, etc. I'll keep you all posted on our plans, though. |
Gruppe-s has pro-tuner, they are taking appointments now.

Dare I say it...Ed of Equinox Tuning just started as well.

Seriously though, I don't have anything against Ed, but I'd must sooner go to Gruppe-S then EQ for a tune. The old arguments of road tuning still apply, and I know he can tune on a dyno now, but it'll either be Gruppe-S's dyno or EIP's (I think) located in San Jose. Might as well just have Mike@Gruppe-S tune your car at that point. |
I know many think he's Ed's butt boy, but EJ20Legacy claims Ed's road dyno was only 1hp off of what a Mustang Dyno later showed. Take it for what it's worth.
|
Its not the road dyno that concerns me, its the road tuning.
Ed himself was able to get about ~20hp more out of EJ20Legacy's car on a mustang dyno after some dyno tuning. |
To echo other's sentiments, while I'm certainly trying to figure out a way to justify the Cobb stuff, I'd definitely recommend Mike in our absence (and keep in mind that Mike is our biggest competitor these days.) He's a good guy and takes care of his customers, too, in addition to being a licensed shop with insurance, etc.
Take that for what it's worth. |
I heard an interesting story about something going down at gruppeS tomorrow...neato.

sigh.. another debate thread..
ecutek all teh way.. from what i have seen PERFORMANCE wise on wrx's... that means, seeing with my own two eyes..not just by word of mouth.. with the right tuner.. ecutek is the SH*T! |
oh yeah, and the ecutek also adjusts for altitude or "learns" as most of you already know..

In the past few months there have been a few threads about ecutek, cobb, road tuning(mainly road tuning) that have went crazy with accusations, shit talking, tech-shit talking, e-thugging, other stuff. Anyway it would be a pretty tough move to sort through all that crap. |

Better late than never.............we are rolling with Protuner, guys. Mike, I'm sorry for the delay, and totally understand you going to Mike; but we'll also be happy to support you in the future.
More details to come, Scott's working on the info now, but we can tune your existing AP with protuner for $195/hour, same as Gruppe S and FLI, or we can get you a new AP and provide a discount on the initial tune..... I'll get something more official up in our forum shortly, but feel free to PM me with any questions and I'll get back to you as soon as I can ;) |
