There's a brick wall at RFR?

Actually the location of the chicane would be a left turn just after the start/finish line, that turns back right and into T1. So you'd be braking from the middle/top of 4th gear for the chicane instead of getting deep into 5th. And the chicane would be away from the pit wall, then back to the esses where there are no walls.

At least that's the discussion I overheard w/ some SCCA people and Jeremy the track operator.

Here's my intrepretation of the chicane's location (in red). I hope they go through with it, as it would make the esses a lot more fun since you'll be accelerating through them instead of just hanging on for dear life at 120+mph.

Also note in that picture how far along they are with the paving of the new section! (Picture was taken yesterday.)

If it is in the spot you drew I would be happy. I wonder if the rest of the paving will be done before the SCCA track day? Of course, if it is finished then Dave will require 182,847 corner workers

Considering there won't be any corner stations or curbs, even if they get the paving done, I doubt we could use it.

Plus the upper management of SCCA has already said they won't approve the new technical section of the course as designed (they looked at it when it was just graded dirt) because parts of the course double-back on itself too closely, or something.

Yep, you can have something like that freak accident at TH where one car went straight through 14 and hit another at 8.

MikeK 2005-09-23 12:14 PM

I didn't think of that. I wonder if they are going to add some kind of barriers in those places.

NevadaSTi 2005-09-23 01:20 PM

Humm, $125 plus gas. I might have to do this one.

Dean 2005-09-23 02:53 PM

Scott has the chicane in the right spot. It would lower speeds appreciably, and make the turn 1 a real turn.

The new section is going to need K walls just like other tight tracks. Sears/Infineon is a good example. There is basically K wall all the way from turn 7 to turn 11 to seperate you from the drag strip/6-7 straight, and the 11-1 straight.

I can't decide if going to the upper course 8-10, or 8-13 is going to be more fun. Just going to have to try it both ways I guess.

8 -> 10 should have the steep downhill spiral where the new track joins the old

Yeah, but look at the sequence from 8 to the top straight you can use if you go back down at 13. Talk about technical. You can't do that if you come down at 10... The top course all by itself looks like fun as well.

Are we talking about the same thing? This is how I amagine the track would go if it rejoined at 10

Dean 2005-09-24 02:39 PM

I don't think you could run it that way. the only way you can make that 200 degree left is to go down at 13. You can't use that same hunk of asphalt for the right down into 10.

ivanko 2005-09-30 03:29 PM

Count me in.

cody 2005-10-13 10:38 PM

Okay everyone, tomorrow's the big day...Just a few reminders...

1. You will need to have long sleeves and pants on while driving. Cotton only, no lycra or poly materials.

2. Make sure you have your tow hook hoop in your car, if not screwed in to begin with. This is the only front tow point for the suby's.

3. Don;t forget your money or check to pay with if you haven't already.

4. Plan on having your drivers side window up while on the track.

See ya out there.

Nick Koan 2005-11-11 08:45 PM

My off was in turn 15. Just came in too hot, back end started to come around, then I crested the turn and the back end was gone. Good chance I lifted somewhere too. I didn't go off course, but I did some unplanned donuts on the entrance to the front straight. Luckily, no one was behind me.

I'll let cody tell the story of his incident.

cody 2005-11-12 08:38 PM

I passed an Integra on the front straight, but I neglected to get back on the right side of the track, so I hit turn 1 to fast at the wrong angle and spun off the track doing about 80 or 90 mph. I sprayed gravel on the track so everybody had to exit the track while they cleaned up.

My car survived basically unscathed. I have several small rock chips in my paint and on my rims and some gravel got shoved between the rim and the tire bead, but I picked most of it out with a screwdriver and all was well.

I gotta say, I wish I had instructors the first two sessions instead of the last two. I had no idea what line I should have been on until I had instruction. What a world of difference it made.

MikeK 2005-11-12 08:42 PM

I'm glad no one was hurt, and no serious damage. And don't worry about paint chips, when you reach a certain speed the front of the car just sucks rocks off the tyres of anyone in front of you ... :P
