Ferrari have released their 2009 challenger, called the F60.

The new spec cars do look better in Ferrari red.

Well, the tiny rear wing is so silly looking... but I really love the cleaned up lines of the car without all the winglets. I wish the spec limited the surface area of the rear wing, instead of the width so it could be wider... other than that, I like the new look! Let's hope it helps make the races more interesting!

that rear wing looks ridiculous

There are more pictures of Jarno and Timo gaying it up than there are of the car. :unamused:

Looking at those pictures of the Toyota motor... it blows me away how much power they get out of such a tiny package. Especially considering that the motor is a structural part of the car that attaches the back half of the car to the front half! A ton of that motor's bulk has to be just to keep it from flexing during cornering.

I wonder if you could get your hands on one of those motors and drop it into a Hachi, or a 1st generation Celica/Supra, or a 1st generation MR2. I'd love to see the look on someone's face if you fired up your mid-80's Toyota and it started doing an F1 style warmup rev program.

Is it just me or are these wings looking Extremely vulnerable to first turn contact??? Those things just stick way out there like curb feelers... yikes.

MattR 2009-01-20 04:10 PM

Oh, and the proper Slicks are dead-sexy

I think a lot of the drivers have already said they're really concerned about turn 1 retirements in the up coming season for just that reason.

Hopefully everyone will be really cautious because of the wing and we'll actually see less lap 1 retirements?

What I find interesting is how different each of the attachments between the front wing and the nose cone looks. Renault and Toyota's are kinda different (Toyota's kinda looking like the BMW Williams tusks from ... 05?) and Renault's being kinda ugly. Williams, BMW and McClaren are looking a bit more standard.

The Renault just has a really wide nose in general. Weird looking.

Is is cool though that all the cars are unique again.

What. the fuck. is wrong with F1? The aero on these cars looks retarded. I mean seriously bad.

There are other ways to manipulate lift production of a wing than reducing its span.

My guess is that they were looking to compromise between lower downforce and still having enough pitch & surface area on the wing for a large sponsor sticker... as the rear wing is really the biggest/best location for the primary sponsor's sticker.

Plus, I think they wanted an air path over the center of the car to give the following car more air... which is why the rear wing is so high, and the front wing has no pitch in the center of the car.

As ugly as the new rear wing is, it's still *way* better than the original proposal which was two small wings behind each rear tire and nothing in the middle.

Ecclestone says bigger teams could field a third car as soon as ... immediately.

http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headline...26082508.shtml

Quote:

He explained to DPA: "If the manufacturers supply engines to other people, they can run three cars themselves."

Ecclestone hinted that the third car provision could be triggered immediately, such as if a buyer is not found for Honda's Brackley-based team.

"It is better to have 20 cars on the grid, whether they are in the hands of manufacturers or in private hands, that doesn't make any difference," he said.
Well, I guess that's one way to do it...

Why don't we just have Ferrari just supply all 20 cars.

zpeed 2009-01-26 08:16 PM

F1 = Formula 1 or Ferrari 1 :)

Some are reporting that the ex-Honda team has been saved, others are saying that they are close to being saved. After all the speculation, looks like Brawn and Fry will take the company, with severance money from Honda, some money from Ecclestone (who reportedly needs 20 cars on the grid or be forced to lower his fees at many of the circuits), other sponsors and an engine deal with McLaren/Mercedes.

skimonkey30 2009-02-27 01:31 PM

what a cluster fuck

Guess it'll be called the Ecclestone/Brawn/Fry/MclarenMercedes
