Yeah, I think Ford has a good case, even though the car will never be sold to the public.

But, combine that with Ferrari's hardheadedness, this could turn out to be spectacular.

sybir 2011-02-09 04:41 PM

I do, however love that Ferrari naming their racing car F150 is somehow going to damage Ford's truck brand image. Huge crossover market there that's going to be all confused.:lol:

sperry 2011-02-09 06:47 PM

Ford won't win that.

There's no way an Italian court (last time I checked Scuderia Ferrari doesn't do any business in the US) is going to rule in favor of Ford over Ferrari for a name that has virtually no marketing crossover.

Not to mention Ferrari and Ford are probably the two best known monikers in the world... their product lines are well known even to the layperson. I'm pretty sure no one is going to get confused by the name of a one-off F1 car that will be run for 10 months this year with an American pickup truck.

Nick Koan 2011-02-09 07:01 PM

The case was filed in Detroit.

Which, doesn't mean much of anything for Scuderia Ferrari, until they set foot in the US (or maybe only Michigan).

Nick Koan 2011-02-10 07:52 AM

Aw man, this got resolved too soon. :|

Ferrari renamed their car the 'F150th Italia'

Has HRT not yet named their second driver? They holding out for Raikkonen to return to F1?

Nick Koan 2011-02-16 09:45 AM

Heidfeld has been officially named as Kubica's replacement at Lotus Renault

Also, there seems to be some growing concern about Bahrain.

sperry 2011-02-17 11:23 AM

The GP2 race in Bahrain got canceled due to the protests. It's not looking good for the F1 season opener, and I don't think there's time to move it elsewhere... though doing something crazy like showing up at Donnington or Magny-Course would be friggen awesome.

Nick Koan 2011-02-17 11:28 AM

They could swap Abu Dhabi with Bahrain on the calendar. Or I'd suggest a race in France, but it might be a little late to get an impromptu GP at Magny-Cours up and running.

I doubt Abu Dhabi would a) be willing to give up their end of season spot or b) be able to fill the stands on short notice compared to their planned event date. The only option IMO is to hold the race somewhere that's not already on the calendar, 'cause otherwise it would really hurt the income of an existing venue.

But who knows if it'd even be possible to plan a GP in such short notice at all.

MattR 2011-02-17 03:27 PM

Laguna Seca!

sybir 2011-02-17 08:34 PM

Yes, that.

Bahrain has been canceled. No replacement race, though rumor says they may try to reschedule (not that there is really a slot).

sperry 2011-02-21 06:32 PM

Great, now I need to figure out how to cancel a GP from th FF1 schedule! I think I'll just have to manually delete it from the database then clear the picks table so no one loses picks. The problem is, does that mean the season starts with round 2, or are the rounds all renumbered 1-19 now?

Sheesh. It took a lot more work than I was expecting because it required fixing the way results and drops were calculated, but I *think* I've got the FF1 site handling a canceled event now.

If anyone sees some weird shit with the scoring or picks or anything once the season gets going, let me know ASAP so I can fix it!

They actually renamed it "The Ferrari F-Henry Ford is a massive peach."

Skip to 5:09 and you'll get it.

Williams released their livery finally. Retro looking. The pictures are all studio pictures, and for some reason are a little dark still. But here it is.

Still no name for HRT's driver #2? Are they just going to run one car this season?

Nick Koan 2011-02-24 10:12 AM

Oh yeah, there is still that too. They are probably too busy looking for a sponsor or three

Actually, I've read that Luizzi is in contention, and will likely get it if all goes well during the next public test.

Infiniti has partnered with Red Bull Racing. Many speculated that this might mean a change in the re-branding the Renault engines as Infiniti, but that won't be happening.

Just one car company sponsoring a full on outfit like Group Lotus, Tata and Marussia are currently doing. But, in two years when this expires, this may lead to further technical contributions from Infiniti.

And in a move to make sperry's ff1 job more of a hassle, the FIA are talking of finding a spot for the Bahrain GP to be run (if at all) sometime this year. Early August or back-to-back with Abu Dhabi seems the most popular at the moment.

Bernie Ecclestone said "If the Crown Prince is of the opinion that his country is able to host a race we will return to Bahrain. I think the teams are sensible enough even to race in Bahrain in the summer break, and despite high temperatures, because this is the way we can support the country."

Great. :unamused: Though I might be able to change all my event queries to sort by deadline instead of round number and move round 1 to later in the season without breaking anything... that'll be a fun one to test.

But, I have the feeling issues in Bahrain won't be resolved enough to run a race there anytime soon. I don't see how a revolution (or revolution quashing as it may be) gets wrapped up in only a month or two to the point where it's time to go back to fun and games.

What the hell is datsun going supply to a formula 1 team? CVT transmissions? It would make pit stops interesting, they'd have to come up with some kind of quick release transmissions.

Datsun isn't going to supply squat.

Renault owns a controlling share of Nissan. Nissan is the parent company of Infiniti. Renault puts Infiniti stickers on their F1 engines. People that don't know better buy Infiniti because they think they have something to do with F1. Renault makes more money.

It's basically a scam. Though, maybe in a few years if the economy gets better, Nissan/Infiniti might actually start up an engine program or something. They could use the engineering challenge to get some new ideas in their cars if they want to compete with Ford's renaissance.

Bahrain may yet happen
