... Did I miss something in the afternoon? :( morning seemed uneventful.

MattR 2012-04-29 05:41 PM

Just a ton of smack talk and MikeK embarrassing everyone else with his insanely low times. It was sure fun having all the old players back in action. Mike, Dean and Kevin were just flying in TSM this afternoon... Plus Vic and I will have an awesome MINI battle this year.

rory_a 2012-04-29 06:13 PM

The lowest I saw was the BM racer at 55.xx, and the SSP Vette at 57.xx (maybe 56 for him?).

Still waiting to see what my third run was - the clock was showing 70.x and I'm pretty sure I beat my other 59.8 on that run. Still slow, I know I can drop that if I just stay cleaner. Need more seat time...

MikeK 2012-04-29 06:48 PM

Results are up.

You were in the 59s, but the timing lights were slow because of where I had the cursor in the software.

Aren't I (T)BSP?

Jesus there's some good times in the afternoon group!

Are you classed incorrectly?

rory_a 2012-04-29 07:54 PM

According to the rulebook, no... I think they upgraded STIs to BSP since Matt was running his. But, I honestly don't see a reason I'm not in STU.

Coilovers
Dropped ride height
Camber plates
Sway bars
Rear strut bar, front lower arm bar
Non-metal suspension bushings
Down pipe and full exhaust
Factory ECU engine tune
Wheel size is 17x8, STU is unlimited
245 tires allowed

I think the only things not allowed are the seats and trunk?

Dean 2012-04-29 07:59 PM

We checked Date codes, Mike's early '06 235 RE-01s were faster than my mixed late '07 and '08 255 615s. :)

Had a blast though. Great to have my car running again.

We may talk smack, but I honestly really enjoy hanging out with and competing with the bunch of you.

I do think Matt needs a car that can compete in Raw time though. PAX is for Pussies. :)

I meant did you end up in a different class to what you signed up in.

Generally you tell us what your class is, and we accept it unless someone protests you, which they won't do.

You are right, ASP is not for STis. Should you be in STU or BSP? I thought I remembered seeing BSP on your car today.

BTW you should probably do something about that at some point. You are probably running lean without a tune.

Cobb has both full boost and STU legal accessport maps on their web site for cars with just an exhaust swap.

That was with new tires though. Doesn't count.

WRX06TR 2012-04-29 08:21 PM

Well it was nice to have top time of the day for a few minutes lol

Man... I feel like I missed out! Maybe Matt can get my car tuned up before the next event...

Here's what I did all day instead of racing:

No you were good, I said BSP cause that's what I remember the STis being, but they're in ASP now apparently. And I'm honestly not sure why I was thinking BSP in the first place.

I meant the rulebook allows tunes to the factory ECU. I have a Clark Turner tune by Matt @ KSpeed.

Nope. Rear diff outriggers, tranny crossmember. Never got around to installing the subframe lockdown bolts.

It's crazy is what it is. That little car is a phenomenon.

rory_a 2012-04-29 09:39 PM

* Nevermind, pretty sure my tune has a dramatically modified boost map, so I'm ASP, which was a move made this year, from BSP.

I can't drop the coin on an accessport to swap around tunes, so I'll stick with it.

I've CLEARLY got some work to do, in order to get up where I want to be in the results! That damn car is hard to keep up with! I can't turn the steering wheel fast enough...

Hopefully I'll be able to sort things out, overcome the loss of the street tire factor, and put down some respectable times!

Seriously! Those were some crazy fast runs!

Had a great time this weekend. I also have some catching up to do in my car. I felt like I was late on everything. I know quite a few spots where I left some time out there. Slowly knocking the rust off.

So, you're saying if the quick rack in my WRX goes missing, I know the first place to look?

This. :)

What did you guys think about the surface? With respect to race tires? (Asking, because John Perry told me the Sac guys wanted his feedback about conditions - and while he did not say it out loud, the impression I have is that some are feeling it's still too gravelly for their tastes.) I thought there *were* sandy areas that were slippery, but there were areas with plenty of grip and plenty of fun on my street tires.

As long as you hugged the corners in the sandy areas I thought it wasn't too bad.

If you got out wide at all you were definitely in a pile of gravel. From the start to the pivot cone was treacherous off line.

The back half of the course was really grippy though. I didn't feel like there was any gravel from the chicago box all the way to the start of the bleachers.

I am not convinced that race tires would be better than street tires though.

rory_a 2012-04-30 09:24 AM

I noticed some gravel into the "third" slalom cone, but I was still on it, not enough to make me back off...

And that first few turns were bad, I was consistently off line turning in too early too hot, I knew better but never corrected, and slid through the first, killing my chances of lining up the second turn.

I was going way wide into the pivot cone and it was ok, but getting up on top of the cone was a little loose.

First time actually running hard on a decent setup with power steering, so wtf do I know though...

I have NO IDEA what you're talking about! :D (there goes hoping you wouldn't notice...)

As far as grip goes, the East end of the course was AWFUL for me... I couldn't go anywhere in that gravel. There was no keeping my car on a clean line, and no matter how slow I tried to go through the first Left, or how gently I applied the throttle out of the Pin Turn, I was counter-steering.

The West end of the course is where I was wishing for faster hands. Tons of grip down there. If the entire course had been "west end grippy" I'd bet I wouldn't have ended up 20something in PAX.
