Hey Mike, thanks for adding me to the list. I honestly just expected to lend a hand, but if we can get my DP on, that's great! Thanks!

I actually did put a joke in there but it was pretty subtle. Making fun of me > laughing at what I said. :p

Well, all in all I think yesterday went, as well as could be expected. It was a butt load of fun, and I learned alot! I just wanted to say thanks to Mike for opening up his garage to us, Kevin for being a knowledgeable human being, and also my partner in crime for the day Pete. Thanks alot to everyone who came out! :) Now that all that is done, here are some pics, unfortunately I didn't get a whole lot of "after" shots, everybody jammed.

tysonK 2005-05-22 02:35 PM

So you finally managed to get that lower bolt off the strut Pete!

I see Kevin lending a helping arm, I know he's done that exact wrench turn many times before.

Looks like you guys got some stuff done!!!

And I'm sure it won't be the last. Hopefully I'll be doing my own coilovers befoer the end of the season.

Forgotten 2005-05-22 03:23 PM

That first bolt only took 15 minutes of tugging with a good 3 feet of breaker bar. The rest came off easier. All in all it was an awesome day, I think everyone got at least something done even if it wasn't what they were trying to. Thanks again for all the help. I'll post some before and after pictures soon.

doubleurx 2005-05-23 09:45 AM

So did Reno 911 get the exhaust on?

Yes, minus the last gasket where the axle back meets the mid pipe.

BOO 2005-05-23 03:48 PM

nice pics !!! Looks like after I left you guys had a cool time :)

ohh and mike H., I called mitsu they want 350 bucks to get that screw out ..lol

So I am going to find another way to get that sucker out .. lol

Kevin M 2005-05-24 12:40 AM

Find a machine shop Sergio... they'll do a better job and probably not charge too much. Failing that, find an old greasy mechanic that's been working on cars since the day they stopped pulling them with horses. He'll have experience with broken bolts. ;)

where you able to locate a plug for the downpipe? It might be best to have that ready because they will need to remove the downpipe to get the screw out.

ohh and I do have your gaskets here :)

BOO 2005-05-24 11:20 AM

Yes, Khail & Co. found a really cool (oil)drain plug to fit PERFECTLY .. lol .. so that was all of 2 bucks .. lol Thanks Khail.. ;)

Ps: MJP motorsports Emailed me back and said they DO NOT have a plug for that so I am glad I went to the PRO's over at Khail's ..

BOO 2005-05-24 12:13 PM

Hey Mike H., When would it be convenient for me to drive by your place to pick up the Gaskets ? I dont need them until Thursday..

Let me know .. Thanks :)

hey dude we tried :( . I really dont know what happened other then we needed that plug for your down pipe.:|

will get it on there, unless you are having it installed when they pull the bolt out witch wouldn't be a bad idea seeing how they will have it off to remove the bolt

I know June is out might have to look all the way into July before there is even a hint of a free weekend, but we shall see!!!:)

I want to say thanks to everyone who made it a great day. Nice pics Chris:D

cody 2005-05-26 08:21 AM

Definately props to Chis as well. The pics look great!

So I was looking for a thread on the brake bleed session you guys were talking about Mike. Didn't find anything. I checked the service record and my car just got new brake fluid 2 months ago, but like you said, stock fluid won't cut it for auto-x.

If there's a thread can I get a link please?

Thanks,
Cody

Stock fluid is fine for auto-x as long as there's no air in the lines. Autocross doesn't really put anymore heat into a car than you'd see on the street. Fluid fade (when the fluid gets so hot it boils and the bubbles result in a spongy pedal) doesn't occur until 300 to 400 degrees. I haven't seen an autocross yet that can get brakes that hot for long enough to fade any DOT3 or higher fluid.

However, if the fluid is old, it will absorb water, which can drastically reduce the boiling point of the fluid. That's why you need to change it for autocross. If you've got new (within 6 months old or so) fluid in the car, you won't fade it at an autocross.

Now, if you're planning on running Reno-Fernley... that's another story... get some Motul or ATE and rig up some brake ducts!! I super-heated my stock WRX brakes (w/ Motul fluid, SS lines, and Axxis Ultimate pads) so badly that the pads lost their ability to transfer to the rotors, leaving me w/ brakes that chewed rotors instead of pads. I ruined every pad on the car, all 4 rotors, both front wheel bearings, and almost put the car off into the dirt at turn 5-6. But my fluid never faded. ;)

cody 2005-05-26 09:15 AM

Jeez Dude. That's crazy.

I don't know anything about Reno-Fernley, but it sounds fun! lol

I'll order some SS lines and pads soon probably. I might as well upgrade the fluid while I'm at it.

Thanks,
Cody

I still need SS lines  I'm sure something will happen in July;)
