I just hooked up AvB's Universal Religion 2008 from Ibiza on iTunes. It's some decent oontz. Nothing spectacular, but it's live and has decent energy to it.

I also found an single by Marc Marberg (who I've never heard of before) but the song "Guarana" is some brutal grungy Trance. I'm sure I'll get tired of it soon enough, but for now, this song is sweet!

Here's a remix that's not quite as good as the original, but all I can find on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JELDknsEhw4

So, I did pick up the new Pendulum album In Silico a few weeks ago. Its quite possibly some of the most mainstream Drum and Bass that I've heard in a long time. Great to listen too, but its sugary sweet packaging hurts your teeth after a while. Strangely enough, I get a lot of classic prog-rock feel from the song structure, instead of standard DnB riffs. I've also noticed that they've changed their group in liner notes. Instead of 3 DJs, there are now 2 DJ/Keyboard, 1 Singer/Keyboard/Guitar, 1 Guitar, 1 Bass and 1 Drummer.

Propane Nightmares
Granite

And because I'm too hardcore to care about mainstream DnB, I had to also pick up Evol Intents new one, Era of Diversion. But, strangely enough, they also worked on quite a few crossover songs as well with Messinian, Cypher Linguistics and BANE. I'm actually impressed with how well the album ties together, despite all the seeming randomness. Ooh, also forgot to mention that there are a good collection of IDM style songs. I can't say, though, that they sound all that good. They sound like Aphex Twin, but not really in a good way. They almost sound exactly like Aphex Twin, without any of their own sound mixed in, which is a shame.

Crossover songs:
The Foreward w/ Messinian
Death, Lies and Video Tape w/ Cypher Linguistics
Smoke and Mirrors w/ Adam Bendard of BANE

More traditional DnB stuff
Middle of the Night(Trance + DnB)
Dead On Arrival(More of the horror type stuff they are known for)
8-bit Bitch (Spor Remix) (Again more of the horror type stuff)

Bleh, there is my electronic output for the month.

Although his album was released last year I've been listening to Bon Iver's "For Emma, Forever Ago" quite a bit lately.

WRX06TR 2008-06-22 11:09 AM

This one is for Cory...Slipknot has announced that the new album, "All Hope is Gone" will be released on Roadrunner Records August 26th 2008!! The band promises that the new album will be a blend of 2004's Vol 3 The Subliminal Verses and 2001 Iowa...should be a kick in the teeth and I can't wait...

MPREZIV 2008-06-22 12:13 PM

Fucking sweet! I've been waiting to hear if they were gonna do something new!

doubleurx 2008-06-22 02:07 PM

I just recorded a new one that is in progress for those that care to listen:

"fletch is dead".

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/defa...&content=music

this one has much heavier bass and drums per Nick's past comments.

tysonK 2008-06-22 06:46 PM

nick,

you should give the new Portishead album a listen I wonder if you'd like it...

Never really been a Portishead fan. They've always felt, to me anyway, like they are treading well worn ground with nothing much new to add, except for a singer I don't like much. Everything sounds good, but not great. I think I'd give them more credit if they dumped the singer and worked on fleshing out the arrangements more, but I doubt they'd do that since her vocals are such a central point of why they are so popular.

MattR 2008-06-23 10:29 AM

I don't think he was talking to you koan.

Sounds good! I like the drums, sound like a nice 1st wave industrial Test Dept.-ish beat. Only comments I have would be to compress the highs a little bit. I don't know if its my shitty headphones, but they seemed overly loud to me.

Hehe, there are only like 20 Nick's on this board now, but I figure I'd throw in my opinion anyway. Unwanted or not :p

you don't like exactly what I do like.

if they did flesh out the arrangements, they really wouldn't be the same band.

I was talking to sonder, you listen to weird stuff.

Nick Koan 2008-06-23 03:58 PM

I do have to admit, though, that the Machine Gun track is pretty sweet.

Yes I like portishead. I hadn't heard the new album though. Thanks for the link.

Can I pretend my name is Nick so I can say this: "Portishead sucks".

JonnydaJibba 2008-07-01 12:04 PM

Dang those are awesome.

WRX06TR 2008-07-01 01:46 PM

Wow, they look good. They have changed a lot from the first album...

Trivium announced that their new album "Shogun" will be released in September, should be pretty intense...here is a song from the last album "The Crusade". They had much heavier screaming/metalcore vocals in the days of old on the "Ascendancy" album.

MPREZIV 2008-07-01 05:39 PM

Again for Nick (or anybody else not scared like a little girl...)

2 released Slipknot singles:

Nick Koan 2008-07-01 06:21 PM

I believe, yet once again, this was aimed at a different Nick, but here it goes.

I used to think that Slipknot was just another metal band with a gimick, but I have to say I've got a lot more respect for them lately. They are doing some damn fine stuff. I can't say I like it all, but I think they got a good thing going.

Also, I caught some cuts off Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat, and god damn, that was awesome. You can really hear a lot of the industrial, eletro/noise, funk & prog-metal influences, but with a greater variety and experimentation. I always thought the comparisons to Mr. Bungle's first album were strictly due to the gimp masks, but it sounds like the started fairly similarly (before branching wildly). Of course, the sounds are different enough, but the semi-free form multi-genre blending metal is there.

MPREZIV 2008-07-01 07:06 PM

WOW, someone who can get past the abrasive exterior, and see the talent they have!

it's honestly rare to find... And I couldn't agree more Nick!

And yes, you were originally the wrong Nick...

ZOMG fucking awesome! I am so glad they went back to a "Iowa" sound...it was definitely missing from Vol 3. I like this new stuff and I can't wait for the album!

No matter how true this may or may not be, masks are dumb. If you have to "look past" the gimik to get to the substance, yore doing it rong!

MPREZIV 2008-07-02 06:27 AM

Yeah, but their point in the beginning was to NOT have the popularity. They didn't want to walk through the mall and have people recognizing them, they just wanted to make music, and still have their personal lives. The masks are just a part of them now, and they can't get rid of them!

WRX06TR 2008-07-02 07:52 AM

Moreover than that, the masks represent the music for Slipknot. Each member is involved in side projects where musical style changes and "Slipknot" characteristics aren't used. So the masks and the jumpsuits represent the band and allow the entire band to feel unified and actually binds them to the music...I read that in an interview somewhere...

MPREZIV 2008-07-21 07:04 AM

More SlipKnot news: Sid has broken BOTH of his feet, and will be performing the rest of the Mayhem tour in a wheelchair... He's also already bruised the crap outta his face, from hitting it on his DJ boards while in the chair!

Video: Psychsocial - http://www.mtv.com/overdrive/?vid=257070

JonnydaJibba 2008-07-22 10:02 AM

How the hell did he break his feet?

MPREZIV 2008-07-22 11:21 AM

He's got a bad habit of jumping off of speaker stands into the crowd to surf... didn't land well.

Nick Koan 2008-08-18 08:50 PM

Dan the Automator has a new collaboration with Russel Simins (drummer for the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion) called Men Without Pants.

Pretty much sounds like you'd expect. Sounds like JSBX style of bluesy rock, but now with a slight electro tinge to it.

MP3 of And The Girls Go

"All Hope Is Gone" releases today. It is, in fact, the single most amazing album I have EVER heard. Period.

1. Flash Brothers- element03
2. Sasha- in2olver

New Metallica CD is bad ass, too bad they have major clipping issues.

The issue is that lars is a total fag.

You sure it's a clipping issue? Last time they put out an album, they told us the low production quality was "artistic exploration". Maybe they're just making a statement.

BTW, the statement is "you suckers will buy our shit and make us richer no matter how crappy it is!"

cody 2008-10-06 09:03 AM

Apparently the clipping is due to some "dynamic compression" BS that makes the album louder because to most people's ears, louder=better sound. At least that's what the were saying on a Nasioc thread.

Dewey 2008-10-06 09:06 AM

I'm fairly sure that is is a clipping problem... check this out. http://blog.wired.com/music/2008/09/...etallicas.html

The top is the Guitar Hero sample, the bottom is what comes on the CD.

Dean 2008-10-06 09:08 AM

Odds are somebody screwed up in the recording studio when the tracks were layed down and they were too something (pick your own adjective) to rerecord them.

Oops, I retract that... It looks like they screwed up the CD mix and were too something to fix it probably because the masters and likely the CD run itself had already been done.
