Yah, but it was all messed up on Colin. I'm 99% sure that the displays that represent brake and gas pedal application in GT4 move independently for me.

I know trail braking definately works for me.

I use the Logitech Driving Force Pro on my PS2, and I left foot brake a ton in GT4.

That lap was quick simply because I was able to keep my speed up pretty well in all the corners (especially the left-hander under the bridge onto the back straight). However, my line could have been improved upon in all the corners (especially the left-hander under the bridge onto the back straight). I ran a few more laps to see if I could best my time, and I think I was able to go through each corner faster than the ghost, but just not all on the same lap. I even had one where I was ahead into the final corner, but then got passed by the ghost right before the finish line (+0.002).

Anyway, let me know if there are issues w/ the next challenge. The car is very "point and shoot" and easy to drive, except for it's ability to break traction easily on hard acceleration... since a lot of the corners at Monaco are very tight, keep in mind that short shifting for traction is probably a good idea in some spots.

That Lister is a howling banshee too.

Trail braking != left foot braking. Although both techniques benefit from each other.

Left foot braking is simply using your left foot to brake with so you can simultaniously apply throttle. Trail braking is braking during/after turn-in to a corner, and can be very difficult/risky (at least in real life) because it's very easy to ask for too much from the tires to have the car turn and brake at the same time... i.e. you go for a nice spin.

Here's a cool write-up on trail braking, though it doesn't really talk too much about how to do it: http://www.getfaster.com/Techtips/Physics23.html

cody 2006-03-22 11:56 AM

Aw, my bad. I thought trail braking was keeping some small degree of brake applied while accelerating out of the corner.

Aw, so it's steering and braking overlap going into a turn. Not throttle and brake overlap coming out. I see.

I don't think that could possibly make a car turn faster laps.

Maybe, just maybe, if it was for traction control.

cody 2006-03-22 01:15 PM

I don't usually do it, but the M3 would plow sometimes and it seemed to help get the ass end around.

That car is quite a handful.... best I can do so far is a 1:30.450

Still need lots of practice.

Here's my best lap this evening..

cody 2006-03-23 11:32 PM

1st post updated.

No wall riding added to rules.

EQ Tuning 2006-03-23 11:45 PM

Damn Sperry.... Its gonna take me a while to catch you!

zpeed 2006-03-24 06:41 AM

I got 1'24.994 Wednesday night and there are many turns to get faster. Last night I can't get under 1'24 damn.

Yeah, 1'23's are certainly possible, and I think if you're ever able to take the big risks and really cut close to the walls w/o hitting them for a whole lap, 1'22's are a possibility.

How do you get the pictures you've taken on GT4 to your computer? Do I need to buy so stupid internet attachment?

Well, you can just use a digital camera and take a picture of the TV and attach it to the board. Or you can grab a TV capture card and capture stills and video of the laps, but that's bordering on overkill.

zpeed 2006-03-27 12:44 PM

Something wrong now I can't get under 25 ??

Did you forget to bump the power, and lower the weight?

zpeed 2006-03-28 07:32 PM

1'24.000 finally

Well, I still haven't run a totally clean lap... little mistakes are hard to avoid, simply because I'm too chickenshit once I've got a good 1st sector to really push it for the next two.

But, I'm shaving off a little here and there.

Okay, that was a pretty good lap. :)

The in-car video from the above lap.

I dont't worry about that because I know Sperry will do better, and he did.
