is early registration going to be at the El Capitan?

A1337STI 2006-05-26 02:16 PM

guess i should call up the holiday lodge then
so btw, the postings on IWSTI is correct, the 2005 STI comes stock with postive front camber, and -1.5 Rear . The guys at Lilly's told me the front was set to +.25  all they could get out of her was -0.6 (has to be a lot better then running around with positive up front though) they took longer then they said but oh wells.

Alas we will miss him he who's favorite color was red!

No..........................Silver, AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

MattR 2006-05-29 07:24 AM

That was an event for the ages...wow what a battle Scott and I had...Everyone drove really well, I had a great time this weekend.

Joeyy 2006-05-29 08:23 AM

More pictures, more pictures, more pictures..... How was the course? Fast or tight or both?

SlickNick112 2006-05-29 09:49 AM

Show what the course was like. Map it out. What were the times like?

Nick Koan 2006-05-29 11:03 AM

There were some left turns, some right turns. A few slaloms, etc...

It may sound wierd, but it was high speed, but tight as well. It was the fastest (mph wise) I've ever been at a solo event, but I was still significantly off the pace and it wasn't due to an HP deficit.

Light brake into Left 2 opens into off camber at exit
Left 3
Right 3
Left 3 through wall
Right 3 through wall
Left 3, wall at exit.

I'll agree with Matt, it was an excellent event competition-wise. Though most the competition was amongst us Reno folk, and not so much with Vegas... I think it has a lot to do with our normal events being of a higher average speed than Vegas' normal events. Our drivers simply have more experience/exposure to the higher speed type events.

Which brings me to the shitty part of the weekend. For the second time in 3 years, a driver lost control of their vehicle and slid off course into a course worker. Chalk it up to a "freak" incident, or to driver inexperience (the driver was a young kid from Vegas driving a WRX), but once again there was an ambulance needed at a Solo event... IMO, Hawthorne should be removed from the schedule. If we wish to continue the N/S Challenge we either need a new location that isn't runway based, or we need to split locations... one year hold it at Stead, the next at Vegas' "home" location.

As far as the guy hit, I don't specifically remember meeting him, but he's from Reno, name's Ed, drives a white supercharged Miata. He got hit be the sliding car's left rear door in his back, which whipped his head into the C-pilar above the door. The window was smashed out, the door had a big dimple in it, and the C-pillar was banged up. Ed suffered a deep gash to his head, a concussion, and several chipped vertebrae. He's going to be laid up for a while healing, but he should make a full recovery. The real shitty part is that he starts a new job on Tuesday, which means he currently has no health insurance. I'm not sure what a care-flight from Hawthorne to Washoe Med, CT scans, pain meds, etc, cost but I can guarentee this poor kid will be paying for it for a long while. :(

tysonK 2006-05-29 04:22 PM

Ed made it out to the after party at Bully's after the first event. I talked with him awhile about just moving here. I think he has a wife also.

That's such a terrible situation.

Dean 2006-05-29 04:54 PM

The site is actually plenty large enough to not use the taxiways at all, and still make a 40+ second course. My guess is that National will not approve another course that uses the taxiways.

The problem with them is they are narrow and have a significant crown.

Due to the narrow width, there is little to do but slalom to reduce speeds, and slaloms are extrmely upsetting to cars. When combined with the off-camberness of the crown they can cause small mistakes to turn into high speed course exits in fairly random directions as we have seen.

IMHO the only way to continue to use that site safely is to stop using the taxiways, which is not likely to go over well with the general membership of the two regions.

You could continue to push wokkers further off the side, but that dosn't fix the problem, and the next incident may well be a roll over that could involve the loss of limbs due to open windows or worse...
