I was weighing that in my head this morning. Mind you I am learning my car all over again, but my head says that I would likely have placed as well or better on street tires. I had to be so slow and smooth through the gravel, I don't think the speed gained on the second half of the course made up for losing the street tire handicap.

I'm gonna stick it out and see what happens though. I am willing to throw away a whole season, if that's what it comes to, in order to learn a thing or two!

That's exactly what I was thinking. It probably only takes a small gravel section where you have to slow right down to undo all the benefit that you get on the rest of the course.

I wonder if the grippy and gravelly areas will be in the same locations at every event.

Kevin M 2012-04-30 04:10 PM

There's a good chance we're going to get the sweepers back out there for future events. It wasn't terrible without them, but getting off the line really did kill your run.

Dean 2012-04-30 05:40 PM

The vacuum only sweepers I saw out there last year suck IMHO (pun intended). The ones with side sweepers, large rotating brush and vacuum are much better for that type of heavy debris.

The first half of the course was tighter than the second, thus the additional debris. There really was only 1 fast line for the second half too, so the debris was there, but off line.

So I took a few pics from event 1, I was only able to get the first run group. I am still working on panning with a lower shutter speed to get some motion. But here they are:

I refuse to take pictures of your car until it has proper Mini Livery.

Awesome, Cory. I fucking love it.

Autocross is about the only thing I miss about Reno...though the super cush job was nice too. Wish I was still there to whoop ass on y'all. ;)

Hearts and Kitty Cats?

rory_a 2012-05-06 09:03 PM

Didn't see these before... Thanks Kevin!

I saw you take that pic when I was waiting for a rerun... Fuming that I just threw away what felt like my best run yet because a cone was out of place.

Gonna need to steal these...

k-dogg39 2012-05-12 09:32 PM

Fun and challenging course today. I can't believe that CRZ may have taken pax.

I liked the open and minimalist approach to the course. It was pretty fun to be able to run all over the place... but the biggest challenge was that the off-line debris got so slippery by my last 2 runs it was spin city.

It's kind of stupid that the biggest challenge was that everyone else was running too tight of a line and left marbles on the actual line. And by "actual line" I mean the line I have to run because of a complete lack of horsepower.

I think next time I'm gonna show up in the Outback and run in FSP to take PAX. :p

Damn so close to TTOD!

rory_a 2012-05-13 08:46 PM

So close!

My car does not like autox. Blew out the rear camber again. Slotted strut hole keeps slipping. Need to find a solution for that, and get an alignment. And raise it, cause I'm rubbing the top of my wheel sells.

Weld/redrill the hole and use camber bolts and/or plates is you best option IMHO. In general, anything where the ball joint side of the lower A arm is flat or higher than the inner is bad. The lower the ball side, the better camber curve.

See this for ride heights for probably -'07 Imprezas.

rory_a 2012-05-13 09:57 PM

I have plates and adjustable lat links. But... Need to keep the slotted strut hole from slipping. I'll take a set of camber bolts in to Cory this time around.

Ironically enough, my times kept getting better, as one side got positive.
