You guys sound like college kids...I wanna come hahaha
|
This is so gonna rock! And Matt I bet you still beat me with the kum ho's on, your just kinda fast like that hehe. I didnt get a chance to get the new springs and vorshlag plates with having to pay for the new house by my lonesome.
Heres an interesting question...I dont want to ruin my RE-01R's daily driving so Im going to set my camber with the street tires on. Specs are 18x9 245/40/18's. Lets say I go -2.5 up front, and then bolt on the 17x9.5 275/40/17's, will the camber change? More neg would be better. Cory does alignments right? Wonder if I should bring it to him and just load the extra rims in the trunk and we can check it out hehe. Cory if you see this shoot me a PM, need to get those tires mounted as well. |
Changing your wheel/tire combo will not affect your camber at all.

Also, just for piece of mind...Negative camber alone doesn't kill tires aggressively, it's the negative camber + the resulting toe-out that causes the scrubbing that kills tires. So long as your toe is 1/32 to 0 you're safe...Greater than 1/16 you'll start to see accelerated wear. |

I'll probably fuel up at Chevron on Vista and I80 before heading out. Probably closer to 3 or 3:30 actually. PM me your cell number, we can talk before then and choose a time. |
Its not looking good for Hawthorne, I may have to skip this year :( Had to move into the new house, and since I needed help now I have to help my friend move this weekend. Such is life I guess, but I needed outta there with the quickness!
|
OMG! Hawthorne was awesome this year, what a great track. I sure felt like the Reno group did a lot of the work for this event, but oh well...I'm used to that.
Anyway, one of the most open and flowing courses we've seen, 3rd gear sweepers, a little bit of 4th in the STI, fantastic. I think I can speak for everyone on this board and say we had an awesome time. Reno Region won for the 11th straight year, without the use of the street tire modifiers. Gilbert De los Reyes took #1 pax overall...such great driving, hope to see some of your in-car Gil... |
Nice job Gil! When I heard the RS was gonna be out there, I almost wished I was going to Hawthorne instead of LeMons.
I'm glad the event was a good one! It's nice to see the event getting back to "normal" with regards to the course design and fun factor. |

Call out to Silvio, Rachel thinks it was you who push started her after her spin at the triangle, and she thanks you greatly! (Rach ran in F125 this weekend, her first time in a shifter kart, and she says it was one of the funnest things she's ever done. I think I've lost my co-driver.) |
Count Nina and I in on the 2009 Hawthorne Bandwagon. We had a great time. Despite coning away the two best runs I've ever had, I am still pretty darn happy. The car held together (though the oil burning has gotten worse) and more importantly, I have a car built to how I want to drive, instead of driving to what I've cobbled together for the season like I used to do. Now to get the rebuild done for GSR and start piling on the seat time!
|
Yeah, the event was so fast and soo fun and my car didn't break*! I had to catch my breathe after a couple of the runs today. I'm loving the coilovers(thanks Scott) and brakes(thanks Scott) and can't wait for GSR. Aside from me the suby crew kicked butt.
*Lie, I have no brake lights now. |
Sounds like a blast. 4th gear in the STI sounds like they didn't have to get the course approved by National.
While I am sure it was fun and "flowed", that sounds a bit fast for an autocross. Glad everyone made it home in one piece. (They did, right?) |

+1 for an awesome weekend! Dale Shoemaker in his Camaro was my only competition in ESP and boy was he competitive this year. Last year Nick and I had no problem taking him and an ESP Mustang but he's got his suspension sorted (softer springs actually) and I couldn't beat him either day. I think he got me by .6xx seconds on Saturday and something like 1.7xx on Sunday (would have only been .9 if I didn't cone away an 85.9xx my last run). I think I did pretty well actually, can't wait to see pax results when they're posted. :) I'm pretty sure that I got 10 ESP points each day too with the T modifier. He was running 315 wide Hoosiers and I was on my 17/45/225 RE01R's, same as I was on last year.
Big thanks to everyone for a smooth and safe event. |
This is going on the same weekend of autocross? nice.
http://www.grandsierraresort.com/spe...tremeautofest/ |
That is going to be fantastic.......not.
|
Oh dear lord.
Something tells me on Sunday, we're going to see lots of course workers running to pick up stuff like bumpers, scoops, and underbody-neon. :unamused: |

I have a feeling we are going to get a lot of negative attention from this. |
Quite possible.
|
Ug that sucks, what does that say about a drift demo? Where is our course going to be setup anyway?
Edit- nevermind I just read the thread about this event...Maybe all the ricers will be in the front and we can quietly be AutoXing and going unnoticed...lol |
The real problem is that if a bunch of ricers that come to the car show on Saturday figure out they can run with us on Sunday, we're going to have a nightmare at tech and registration on Sunday morning, plus a bunch of n00bs on course that may be thinking they're driving in a drift exhibition, not an autocross competition.
And that's not to mention SCCA's take on "spectators"... since spectators aren't allowed, technically we're supposed to be waivering and wrist-banding pretty much everyone that's at the car show that can watch our event. |
maybe i can talk one of them into letting me codrive their ricerocket
|
It WILL be a clusterfuck, but it's my cluster fuck so I'll make the best of it. Plus, I here theres like 14 people signed up for autofest.

and what's with all the damn fogies in our car club and SCCA. OH NO, GOD NO, NOT NEW RACERS, OMFG Our Car club might survive in the future!!! IMO this could be way awesome. Might just convince a few kids that legal racing is where its @! Shit 2 guys i bought out to the last autoX where in an RX-7, are way into JDM and drifting. my buddy Gabe actually did a bunch of drift competitions and he was running pretty close to my pace in my car when i let him drive it once. (.4 off?) They didn't spin out, they stayed on course, they worked, they helped out a long time SCCA member with his tires when he had some issue with a lug that was stripped or something... Retarded :P really , Should we make flyers saying people into JDM, Drift are not welcome? maybe just toss in "no one under 20" for good measure... just don't blame me when one of those kids drifts into your car on a public street because they feel they have no outlets at all to drive fast... :P  well maybe that pecticular type of kid is a lost cause, but if you have half a brain you should have gotten my point by now. |

SCCA has had repeated problems with the traditional import crowd. Most kids are not like your example in the rx7 or like all of us Subaru people circa 2003 when we joined up. For the most part, the ricer stereotype holds true, and people that come out in unsafe cars with fast n furious attitudes (ie the street racer types) are liabilities to the SCCA. Keeping our sites and our insurance depends on running organized safe events. The SCCA wouldn't have such a problem with having so many old geezers if a higher percentage of young guys weren't douchebag street racers with something to prove. People like you, me, and the rest of the folks here that participate in sanctioned motorsports are not the norm for the 20 to 30 year old crowd. The sad fact of the matter is that by far the age group is made up of people that dont have the humility to put up with the structured environment of SCCA. |
Bleh, I have to leave for Oklahoma for work on the 24th. Looks like Im missing another event :(
|
Lame.

Yes of course there's a risk that we will only get immature kids, who could possible reject the structure and act out. But my point is Our attitude of Expecting them to do that, will be an influence on them, probably to do exactly what you are thinking. if instead we treat them as if they are going to obey the rules, they just might. (Guess not that you personally are going to be out there) I love prejudice as much as the next guy, guess i just love pointing it out even more. Carry On! Carry On! (glad to see you are back to normal!) |
Alex, there is a large market for kids who are exactly what we don't need to get in large numbers at autocross, and you are quite aware of this. Can you think of a single bigger draw for that type of person than the Xtreme Autofest Dance Club Doriftorama that's happening adjacent to us this weekend? I can't.
Nobody here thinks that there is absolutely zero cross-section of young people who will be quality additions to our autocross contingent out here, but the percentage is pretty slim, and there WILL be the asshats we try to avoid at all costs coming along for the ride. Might we get some members out of their crowd that we are happy to have with us on a regular basis? Sure. Is it more likely that someone will do something stupid like drift into a parking barrier (or worse, a courseworker and/or spectator who didn't think he had to stay on the other side of said parking barriers)? Absolutely. |
Quote:
If I've learned anything about the import tuner crowd, it's that prejudice towards expecting asshattery is usually warranted. In fact, usually the asshattery exceeds expectations. Do I hope a bunch of tools show up to race just so I can be "right"? Hell no! The last thing I want to deal with is kicking out people from the race, or worse shutting down an unsafe event. But it wouldn't be the first time SCCA's had to do such a thing. |
I'm gonna try to make it out there! I'm pretty excited for it, actually.
AFAIK, SCCA has a pretty strict spectator policy on this event. What if I were to have some friends that wanted to come and watch, what would that be like for them? Any fees? Where would they be able to sit/watch? Edit: What about passengers? |
We can definately support people that come just to watch. You just have to sign the waiver and get a wristband.
|
And unless it has changed, with a waiver and a wrist band you can ride too.
|
BTW I saw in the paper the other day that the Xtreme thing doesn't start until 3pm. So that should keep them out.
|
GSR Next weekend, temps should be in the mid 90's!!!! I just finished drawing out the course...with some nasty influence from Silverstone  this should kick ass.
|
Sweet. Don't forget to give me a call.
|
I work in the morning both days saturday and sunday but im gonna try and make it out to the afternoon runs.
|
Make sure you're there by 11:30. We're expecting big crowds.
|
A going to try to make it this weekend but a leaky rear brake piston might not let me run:(
|
Great weekend everyone. Thanks to Matt for making a great track and a great event and thank to everyone who helped make it happen.

Great weekend! Insanely hot. Thanks everybody!
that is all |
Didn't have the car ready in time but I did make it out on saturday morning. All I have to say is I can't wait until I actually get to run my car.
There are some damn good drivers out there! There were a few subies I'd be proud to race with, and if I'm lucky maybe I'll get one of you to ride along w/me for some pointers. I just wish I knew who was who from this board. A friend pointed out Cory's car but I never did run into him. |
