IBstfu! My porn file is only like 828mbs.
My meda file (music/movies) is about 6 gigs. Yes my virus checker dealy is updated, yes I scan EVERY file I download, and yes I make sure I use trusted sources. |
I won't tell you how many GB of porn I have.

Is hooking up a new fan hard? Mine seems to not like working anymore. My comps not overheating (yet), but the fan doesn't sound, look or smell like it's gonna cool anything down ever again.
|
If it's a case fan, it's very easy to replace: 4 screws and a plug. Whichever one it is, just pull it out and take it to Radio Shack or somthing and get a replacment.
Acutally, does anyone know of a good Computer supply store? Radioshack is stupid expensive and doesn't have much. |
I have gotten a lot of things really cheap at comp usa. I have gone to moondogs multimedia but that guy is a douche bag and their prices are not all that great.
|
Sandy's has some stuff. Fryes in Cali.
Does your processor have a fan on it Jonny? We lost a couple of cpu's because the fan on the chip itself fried. Case fan didn't keep it cool enough. |
Um, it's the fan that is attached to the back of the case.
|
power supply?
|
If its the power supply, I have a brand new one sitting in a box on my coffee table. As well as a mother board, and I'd be willing to part with them for a price.

I hate to thread jack, but does anyone know how to keep internet explorer windows maximized when opening a new page? Every time I click a link and a new window pops up, it's never maximized or the size I want it. I have to resize and it may stay the same size for a little while, but when I close explorer and re-open it I have to screw with the size again. Anyone know?

Launch IE
Resize the window Close IE Relaunch IE If that fails. Use FireFox. |

HELP! Um, so I think my computer is f'd. It was on all day, working fine. I went to restart it, and right after the initial Dell loading screen (which the words at the very top are all scambled), the screen goes to like a DOS looking format and asks me for a password. It's a screen that I have never seen before. What's worse than that, it won't let me type anything, but they keyboard works. I have pictures but I can't load em up yet.
So am I screwed? |
Have you tried a cold boot? Unplug the computer from the wall (or turn the switch on the back of the power supply off) for a minute. Then turn it on again.
If that doesn't work, try pulling out the CMOS battery for 20 minutes. It's a watch battery looking battery on the motherboard. Be careful when you remove it. It's held in with cheap little clips. Don't forget to touch the chassis of your computer before you touch the motherboard to release any static electricity and turn the power supply off or unplug the computer before you open it. |
Ok. I'll try that. Thanks.
|
I tried that. Its still broken. Is it possible that my motherboard or something could have overheated from my fan not working? I never replaced the fan because it never really got that hot. Actually hot isn't a word I would use to describe the temp in the tower. And I have had the case off for like the last few months. I'm pretty much talking out my ass because I know very little about computer hardware. As soon as I have access to a non-work comp I'll upload the pics of the F'd boot screen.

I got nothing better to do if you want me to look at it...
|
Ya know Dean I would really appreciate it. Do you want to take it to your casa? I can bring the tower and whatever else you need to the meet. Or you can come to mi casa. Whatever works. But I would really appreciate the help.
|
If you can bring just the tower itself, that would be fine. Or bring it to the meet.

Your computer is fixed...
Clean up you PM mailbox...
Works fine, and now has an 80GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive I had lying around with all your data on it. (You get your old one back as well) Still don't know why somebody installed your system with the HD as the D: drive, but it is. That didn't change as I just imaged your old drive to the new one. come and get it... P.S. A little compressed air and a little oil on the bearing later, Your fan is spinning again, but not sure for how long, but you can put the cover back on and keep the 4" of dust out. All the Dell special fan mounting bits would move over to a new fan if you pick one up. |
Damn! Thanks Dean. I guess keeping that fan working is more important than I thought. I owe you dinner at a meet. Or 2 or 3 dinners at least. I can swing by sometime after 5 if you are home.

I know pretty much nothing about networking so I could use your guys help. We have a wireless router. My roommates comp is the "main" one or whatever. Why would my connection be stupid slow when the connection speed is at 54mbps? It takes so long to do anything and playing on Xbox Live is a chore. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
|
There are about 7000 answers to this question.
You are using a PC, or an X-box? If there is a router, your roommates computer should not matter. Does yours work when his is off. Are you sure you are attached to the router, not another one nearby? Can you see other networks nearby? What channel are they on? If even 2 or more routers near each other are on the same channel, it can make connections suck. That is a start. In general, Internet connections are WAY slower than even crappy 11mps 802.11b wireless connections, so there is something funky with the wireless config... |
