Did you get new tires Kevin? :?:  (please say no, please say no ) I just have the feeling both you and Vic are going to show up on new tires this weekend... unfortunately Vic really needs to get his car fixed, it had a check engine on + flashing cruise and totally Felt like it was in limp mode Sunday when i drove it. (half boost) Has anyone ever heard that that 07 STI is only supposed to make 8 psi of boost? :?: |

Yep, we got some new StarSpecs last week. We may or may not have been able to finish another event weekend on our Bridgestone slicks, but why push it? Hopefully we'll be a little faster during the gravel stage Saturday. :p

Its going to be a hot weekend , and i'm talking PAX not the weather :p

Mike K, what did you do to knock a second off your last run? Wow, nice Raw time. Too bad Bryan got us both for Raw.

Wow, the course clearly got sucky in the afternoon. I wonder if it's starting to leach asphalt when it gets hot again, or if the surface just gets polished down and too smooth.
|
This weekend only enforced in my mind that the 1st rungroup is the fastest and it just gets progressively looser the rest of the day. And this surface loves new tires, for sure.
The 3rd session started out relatively good, but went away very quickly. And it seemed like the street sweeper didn't help to improve it much before the 4th rungroup. Cooling my front tires on my last run seemed to help a little, but not enough to beat my 3rd run. I have patches of pavement glued to my tires with tar, presumably from when I parked. Congrats Kevin, you killed it today. Everyone here is doing really well. :) |
It was terrible in the afternoon, my best run was my first of six, I felt like I was driving well, the car was just pushy, then snappy loose as the surface deteriorated. I could not get any front bite, and there was still a ton of gravel coming up in spots. In fact, when we picked up the course, there was a good 3/4 of ball bearing gravel piled on top of the outside scoring light box. Weird conditions for sure...

Both Rachel and I, as passengers, were getting pebbles thrown up from the last 1/3 of the course, into the car and into our faces. That last third also felt like the worst part of the course to either a) end up offline, 2) lose torque, or d) understeer badly. From a course design perspective with these surface conditions, it might make sense to stay away from tight maneuvers It does make sense that the warmer temps are causing the loose stuff to come out quicker too. |
I blame the internets.
|
Oh, and you're dead on with you comments about course design. It will be taken into consideration for the latter July event Cory and I are doing.

Where did that random post come from? hmm? |
On the topic of today's course, this was actually a copy of a course Scott and I put together about 4 or 5 years ago ("mini-suzuka"), but it was not originally set that tight, I see that they shortened the width (Grandstands to runway) about 50' narrower that what Scott and I used to set, so the tight turns felt extremely tight...
The best way I can describe a course that's set that tight is to compare it to a competitive kayak-er trying to paddle upstream to make a gate across the river. It all felt like you had to fight hard in the opposite direction to make the turns. So this just enhanced the under steer issue on the loose surface. Also, since everyone was plowing around so much, the surface was getting torn all to hell and graveling up even more. My tires took a beating today. |

A big Thumbs Up to Matt's and Alex's driving this weekend, Thank You for the rides! (On Sat. I was privileged to experience Alex's 'If you want to know how to drift through the turns, Ebrake style, still driving on the racing line, not hitting any cones ... and lose your class by 3 seconds and come up about dead last in pax, SURE! http://www.renoscca.org/forums/image...s/icon_lol.gif' Even though he ended up FIRST in pax on Sat! And Congrats to Kevin AND Nina, for some great run times in the morning! |
so who's coming out this weekend, ill be there sunday running BSP
|
I'll be there tomorrow afternoon and all day Sunday. I'm really not looking forward to the heat though. I guess low 90's is better than high 90's anyway.

How did the surface hold up this afternoon?
Mike: was that a banzai last run with 4 cones? :) And as far as raw times - what's going on, is the Lotus the new F125? |
Had a lot of fun today, definitely wanna go again... gunna remember sunscreen next time
|
That course was an ass kicker. I hope it's softened up a bit tommorrow. Street tire temps > 220 are no good.
|
Ya, there were two 1st gear turns for me. I actually hit full lock on the steering wheel on both of them on my fastest run.
Good times though. My tires didn't seem to get all that hot. At no point were they too hot to hold my hand on and spraying the fronts didn't seem to help grip at all. Good times though. Hopefully we have another cool breeze tomorrow like we did today. |

Also.... did anyone happen to pick up a duffle bag that said Jeep on it and a little tool kit next to it?..... I completely forgot about them

Sunday morning run groups - Cody and Matt were burning up the course! Then John and Patty Evans kicked a$$ in the 2nd run group. It'll be interesting to see how the results pan out after Sunday afternoon runs.

You guys in the top 4 are keeping the pax race Very Interesting!

I want to hurry and get to the RFR events and hopefully make up some ground on these guys.
|
Aw man, I did get a cone on my 46.7. I thought so. Oh well, at least I had a 47.0 to fall back on. Thanks everyone. Good weekend...though I have a rip in my inlet pipe that will need fixing quick.
|
Damn Cody, that 46.7 was a fast run for sure, That would have given you a 2nd place pax score, and it would have extended your lead.
Now i get to hold the temp title of pax leader for about 13 more days... lol |
