Looked pretty cool going by.

JoeWRX 2012-05-11 01:21 PM

Saw Kevin M on mccarran earlier today. Tried waving but couldn't get you to look over! Car looks good sir!

Kevin M 2012-05-11 02:52 PM

Thanks dude. Were you in the STI hatch? That thing look sweet, but the exhaust sounds awful.

JoeWRX 2012-05-11 06:08 PM

Yea that was me! I guess equal length headers to straight pipe (basically) is an acquired taste :P

GusGus91 2012-05-11 09:42 PM

You have EL headers? 0.o

I never could tell the difference hahah

sybir 2012-05-11 11:00 PM

One sounds like a wet fart. The other one sounds like a Subaru

Not talking shit, I ran EL's on my wagon for a while - couldn't stand the exhaust note.

GusGus91 2012-05-11 11:01 PM

I have EL's on my wrx. Cant tell really. But that's probably because I have the gymkhana exhaust. :/

Saw a green rs coupe with gold wheels today with one of the giant SECCS stickers on it. Would have been around noonish, 395 south near Neil road.

MPREZIV 2012-06-24 07:46 PM

Hey Cody, were you driving up the 37 today, headed toward the race track around 2:30? If not, you have a doppelganger...

cody 2012-06-24 08:32 PM

Negative. Haven't driven today at all. You went to watch the race? How was it? I haven't been at Sears Point for years.

MPREZIV 2012-06-25 07:07 AM

I was so sure it was you. There's the divided hiway, so I couldn't see wheels or anything, but it was the same color, bug-eye wagon, and when it went past there was a color matched sticker on the back window that looked like your "beat by a wagon" sticker! You've got a twin!

I figured I was close enough to your neck of the woods that it could have been you!

Nope, no race. Went to a wedding: http://www.seccs.org/forums/showthre...675#post161675

Saw a nice looking white LGT on gray wheels w/ Rally Armor mudflaps on Veteran's yesterday around 7pm. There were like 3 or 4 dudes in there apparently breaking their necks to look at my Miata. :?: It's just a Miata?

Then today on my way to work, some (high school aged?) guys came flying up on me at Steamboat/Damonte Ranch/Double R in a gold Saturn to pull along side of me like we were about to race, then duck in like *right* behind me. WTF?

This Miata is getting pretty much the same attention my SVX got... and it's slower than the SVX. I guess it's just mad tight dorifto looking? Thank god the wagon doesn't get this sort of attention.

Nick Koan 2012-06-28 09:10 AM

I saw that white LGT the other day too. Looks pretty nice.

Apparently some of this summer's difficult questions are moving into full testing phase.

SoyKraut 2012-07-01 11:18 PM

That Miata almost broke my neck while you were playing cat and mouse with Dean.

Actually, it beat me up pretty good too... I've got bruised arms and legs. My wife was kind enough to point out though that I "won" the fight by killing the motor. :unamused: :(

MattR 2012-07-02 11:13 AM

You Killed the motor?

Of course. It was due for an oil change, so I figured "might as well spin a rod bearing!"

But seriously, I overheated it on Saturday... thought it might have been okay since it was running good on Sunday morning, but by the afternoon it crapped out.

From the miata thread on NASIOC:

My water temp gauge has an intermittently loose connection, so at some rpms the vibration of the motor causes the gauge to bounce around. Usually I can read through the bounce, but during my timed session I overheated it pretty good, then while coasting to try to cool the car I got caught from behind and had to get on it again to try not to ruin the lap of the guy behind me by getting to the next passing zone. So I ended up really putting the motor temp up in the red. Came in to the pits and the car had boiled over into the catch tank, and then overflowed the catch tank too. I ended up needing to add about a gallon of water to the radiator Sunday morning.

Sunday morning the car ran great, so I thought I had dodged a bullet. But in my timed laps Sunday afternoon, I went out w/ the motor making a little bit more noise than usual, and I only made it through the pace lap... I got down the front straight at speed and the motor let go. It suddenly lost all power... I was able to limp around back to the pits and when I came of track and pushed the clutch in, the motor promptly seized.

I'm pretty sure it's a rod bearing... at least that's what I would have guessed if it were a Subaru motor. But I had oil pressure on the gauge (after the motor seized, I checked the oil and it was only about 1 qt low) and the water temp was nominal. But as soon as the motor stopped the coolant boiled over, so there was some serious friction in there, hence my guess at losing a bearing.

Ugh. I know how you feel.

Didn't you lose your motor on the dyno? That's way crappier than killing one at the track... at least I was out at the track getting to play! I've lost motors in the WRX on the dyno... it's the worst. :(

Not really. Just confirmed that something was wrong with it on the dyno. But my RS motor just popped too. Boo.

cody 2012-07-03 09:42 PM

What a shit storm!

Did I pass MattR on Vista this morning?

Unlikely.

I hear that guy will street race anyone that tries to pass him.

You did dude, but you didn't look over when I flashed you! I saw you! You're a very safe rider.

Scott, the Taco isn't much of a street racer, but I still won't back down

I bet it does great soul donuts.

MattR 2012-07-27 07:26 PM

For Sure, gotta keep that street cred up I built so long ago...

In reality I had just woken up, maybe 10 minutes earlier, I was still half asleep. I had my Ipod on, and was in autopilot. If I had known it was you I would have raced, I've got (had 30 years ago) 45hp at 9000rpms (maybe once).
