17x 8 Wheel Options.
 

What are some 17x8 Wheel options with STi Fitment. I know about all the Rotas, but what ones am I missing? Help. I'd like to spend no more than $250 a wheel.

Dean and I have the Enkei RPF1's. Light (<16lbs), roll-forged lip (like SSRs), 17"x8", clear Brembos. And they cost about $900 for a set of 4. Gold, silver and BLING! colors. (And if you want some silver ones, let me know because I'd rather have some gold ones... I'll work a deal w/ you!)

Werks, Prodrive, Rotas, Volk,5-Zigen... Are just a few that I know of .. Of course you would know of a few I have listed due to personal experiences... 8)

I'm tellin you man, 17x9's + 275s + some fender flaring = SuperFly grip. :wink:

RPF-1's are just a copy(Or vice versa) of the Rota's .. i would think Matt would want somethign DIFFERENT.. But who knows...

I do think this is a good choice...

why not 17x8.5"?

and 17x8.5 are okay too, I just haven't found any that fit the $ req. I've just started looking.

Rota is the copier. Thats all they do. They make good rims, but the designs are all copies of other companies rims.

I don't think Rota makes a Replica of the RPF1s. The closest is the SubZero which is a replica of the Racing Hart CP-035's IIRC.

Also, I think Matt's looking for track wheels, so he's probably not too concerned with their looks.

Oh and both the Enkei RPF1s and the Rota SubZeros were the rims that Gary Sheehan used to run on his USTCC race car, so I'd call 'em "Race Proven on a Subaru". 8)

And, if I remember correctly, he broke 2 RP-F1's and never broke a Rota. Granted, I believe he raced on the RP-F1 90% of the time.

That's what I was thinking ... I guess If it was me i wouoldnt buy something that is a copy of something else.... that i might already have or that I could get real easily from SUBYDUDE.. (Ok am I advertising for him or what???..lol.. )

You lost me... all Rotas are copies of other wheels. Granted they're still very good wheels, especially at their prices, but if you're not interested in a replica wheel, then SubyDude has nothing for sale!

Ok this is what I mean: Why buy the RPFI's when he can get the Rota's from subydude or where ever ...

Especially what Nkoan said about the RPF1's .. Granted Matt may not use them to the full extent of braking them .. but who knows.. I think at this point it would be more of a SAFETY issue for wheels than anything ...

Right. But you also said you wouldn't buy replicas. The Rota's are the replicas. Rota makes copies. Rota copies other companies designs. Rota doesn't make original designs, they copy other designs already out on the market.

The RPF-1's (or actually the RacingHart wheels) are the real deal original wheel.

Not to mention that Rota doesn't even make a replica of the RPF1... and they probably won't since the Enkei's are fairly affordable... Rota tends to make replicas of more expensive wheels so they don't actually compete w/ the original wheel.

I talked with Gary before I bought my new wheels, and actually while I was thinking of buying his car...

They seldom ran the SubZeros because they were narrower, and barely cleared the brakes. I believe he said they had the rain tires, and a set of backup scuffs on them. The RP-F1s were the primary wheel, and they held up real well except when he banged them into stuff. :) He reccomended them.

The MBs are about 18lbs, and are $112 ea. from Discount Tire. You could get tehm pre mounted and balanced with a set of RT-615s. So far, I am getting good feedback on autocross performance for them from the Evolution list.

Maybe you are missing my point. what I mean by replicas is : Straight forward why buy RPF1's when Rotas are the same looking wheel...

Good feedback on the tires, or the wheels?

Oh, and when Gary went off big at RFR, he was on Rotas... and they got hammered. I don't remember if they were cracked at all, but I know they were bent to hell.

Well there ya go... sounds like they are a good wheel.. Again except when Scuffing them .. but then again .. so is every other wheel out there ...

and the MB's at 118 a pop .. sounds like something that is within Matt's original spending quote :)

Scott.. you have had Rota's for a while now .. What do you think about them . On the track?
