Wow, Kevin, that's remarkably interesting. I'm glad I took 2 seconds out of my life to read it. It was totally worth it, too.

Not really.. Just brings out the fact that It shouldn't be letters/words/phrases or better said NON-Important things like this that get to people... Remember this is the internet. (Yes, even though some/most of us know each other off line as well)

Life is way too short to Start to care about insignificant crap like this ...
LOL

AtomicLabMonkey 2005-06-21 08:37 AM

Thank you for the life lesson, oh zen-master-one. It's not a big deal in the grand scheme of the world, it's simply annoying. Remember that you're annoying people every time you post something asinine.

 on the bandwagon, but I like the animated laughter

BOO 2005-06-21 01:44 PM

Thats all it is .. Laughter... some of us have it .. some of us Don't ;)

sperry 2005-06-21 02:04 PM

Alright. I'm getting tired of this. Starting at post 7 (edit: now it's post 1 after the split) this thread doesn't have a single redeeming post.

Austin is bothered by people that are posting what basically boils down to content-less posts. If all you're doing is laughing at or agreeing with the poster above you in the majority of your posts, you're not really contributing to the board, what you're doing is post-whoring.

Now, whether or not Austin is hyper-sensitive to these posts, the bottom line is that some of you are now intentionally going out of your way to piss him off. If you're gonna post-whore, fine... but if you're gonna do it to purposely piss off another member that's specifically explained that it bothers him, I'm gonna start deleting posts. And if I have to waste a lot of my time deleting posts, I'm gonna start banning people.

Now, Austin's not the only person that's being bothered by post-whores. I've had several other members, long before this recent issue, that have complained about the level of "noise" around here. And BOO isn't the only person that I've had complaints about. Normally I'm all for letting things slide, but if people are complaining, I'm certainly more apt to side w/ those who have been contributing more tech and more content than those that are just posting to post.

So everyone... cool it a bit before this mess gets bigger than it's already become.

Dean 2005-06-21 02:18 PM

I admit to being one of the other complainers.

I'm not as sensative as Austin on noise as long as it is in OT. I get slightly annoyed when it is in normal discussion forums, and extrmely so when it is in motorsports, and worst of all tech.

I am more tolerant of it from contributing members and meet goers. Random BS from people who have not contributed, and don't come to meets, no matter who they know/are, have little or no redeeming value from my perspective and should get a single warning and then be banned.

ScottyS 2005-06-21 03:54 PM

I haven't sent any complaints yet, but I feel like Dean as well. Since I have yet to figure out what I can contribute, I have nothing to stand on and feel fortunate to be tolerated/welcomed. Hell, BOO contributes more than I do for sure - I think here it's more a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time as Austin's issues may be with a larger population (not trying to invite jokes here, Austin ;-) )...

We all do funny/wacky posts, but I think the trick is to save it for the best opportunities...

sti deede 2005-06-21 04:02 PM

Sorry if I'm one of the people that is wasting peoples time. I'll keep my future posts to a minimum and useful. Promise.

Scotty, in an OT or even normal discussion forum, this would be considered contributing. There is actual thought, coherent sentances with punctuation and a valid opinion above. You don't have to "know" anything to contribute, other than to be able to express opinions or ask questions in a cherent manner.

Post whoring and "noise" is what annoys most folks. Random drivel is the enemy.

MikeK 2005-06-21 04:05 PM

The title of this thread should be:

"Train accident in this thread"

They don't have to be useful especially in OT. Funny, inflamitory, opinionated, or just good old BS is fine. And as a regular meet attendee, and writer of good one liner quotes like "I added enough of the cocksauce (seracha) to make it bright red. So spicy I had to cry. Mmmmmm." you get a reasonable amount of leway at least in my book.

It is the 6-10 word posts with no more than one sylable words, and 3 emoticons that get old fast IMHO.

I've not seen much from you on here lately, I imagine you post more in i-club these days.

With that said, just reading your posts makes me laugh, because my eyes are drawn to your avatar, and that just cracks me up.

Now that's funny... More than 6 words, many with more than one sylable, and not a single emoticon.

Not sure if it gets Austin's approval, but I give it a thumbs up.

ScottyS 2005-06-21 05:24 PM

Part of the clarification of my first post includes the idea that I don't see fast "rules" about content amount/type. There have been some hilarious and appropriate one-liners/graphics that I've seen from people like Tyson, Kevin, Scott, and many more.

"Fixed"
"IBblahblahblah"
"Wait, what?"

That stuff gets old fast if it's every post, but if used *reasonably* spices up the forums and keeps it entertaining. Really, MSPaint stuff should get extra points...

I thought the "train wreck" title to be singularly appropo as well.

That was exactly my original point. :)

My oblivious nature tends to ignore the "noise" posts, so I enjoy posting my random and useless stuff there. I try not to do it here as it is frowned upon.

Heehee thanks. Scotty did an excellent job. I still crack up myself everytime I look at it.

BOO 2005-06-21 08:40 PM

Well In my own defence.. it all started from a stupid, and yes I use the word stupid loosely, remark in which I like to use the word "LOL" .. I mean come on if thats what you are going to get PISSY at then this is basically what people lose sleep over and get worked over.. Does all this nonesense make any sense???
You tell me....

Ps: Again I say, if you don't like the words that I type on this board then Let me know .. Don't let it get out of hand with one person and expect to voice your opinion THEN..
Thru the years I have seen a lot of people say and type what they want but yet when I do it becomes annoying... yes, I am saying being singled out is very pety, so I tend to "voice" my thoughts as well.. I am not and never have been one to keep my mouth shut .. LOL

I mean sometimes you wonder why so many members sign up but sometimes never bother to show up!!!!.. Because of the PETY crap..
And if I "deserve" to be banned then so be it ..

Dean 2005-06-21 09:19 PM

Sergio, this is not the LOL thread, this started with Kevin's post, and became a discussion of sorts on board etiquitte, etc. Please do not take it as an attack on you, if anything, you post above is contributing to the discussion.

Austin aparently does not care for your LOLs, and that is his perogative.

I think the overall jist of this discussion is to balance/moderate the noise level on the board as a whole and raise awareness.

I encourage you to continue to participate, including coming to meets... ;)

I've got my rant on tonight -

Posts that have a generic title like 'look at this', with no explanation, or 2 words like 'ha ha', and then a link bug me. Tell me something about what's in the link. I know I don't have to read it, I know I can just close it and move on; but for some reason I stay annoyed that that person didn't spend any time telling me why the link is interesting on seccs.
(Edit - qualifying this item as one where a thread is started. If a quicky link is inserted to support a thread in-progress, I have no problem with those.)

Then, I think we have heard before, the term 'train wreck', along with showing graphic pictures of such can be offensive. Let's stay away from that, I won't miss it.

Finally, I get really annoyed when I read a post that sounds like it was written by a 4 year old. I'm talking about spelling errors all over the place, slang, incorrect abbreviations, and improperly constructed sentences (like what we saw last year with the 'lake person'). I'll overlook short bursts of this kind of writing, but when its several sentences or a page full of meandering blabber - to me it's like READING A POST IN ALL CAPS.

Apparently my theme is 'let's be respectful with each other'. Kidding is ok up to a point, then it becomes an issue, like the water gun attack on Tom Cruise. Funnay not found.

Oh man, thats a pet peeve. I find myself cringing all the time on i-club. I absolutely hate threads that are vague and end with "..."

"Check this out..."
"Hey everyone..."
"What I ..."

Argh.
