What a ton of work...
...6:30 pm to 2:30 am, with an hour off for dinner:
Prep work, take out the seats, remove all the rollbar padding: http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Car Pic...44 (Small).JPG http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Car Pic...45 (Small).JPG http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Car Pic...47 (Small).JPG Mask off the whole interior, then clean the rust off with mineral spirits: http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Car Pic...49 (Small).JPG http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Car Pic...51 (Small).JPG http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Car Pic...53 (Small).JPG Paint this bitch (well, I was busy painting, so here are the post painting pictures): http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Car Pic...58 (Small).JPG http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Car Pic...62 (Small).JPG http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Car Pic...63 (Small).JPG http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Car Pic...68 (Small).JPG Time to dry overnight: http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Car Pic...78 (Small).JPG Better in the mask than the lungs: http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Car Pic...77 (Small).JPG I'm beat: http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Car Pic...65 (Small).JPG Hopefully it doesn't look like ass in the morning... It may need a second coat. And it'll be interesting to see how well my masking job was... I know there are a few spots in the roof where I painted the headliner, and I know the area between the windshield and top/front bar is probably a mess. But at least the car's not a rust bucket anymore. |
2nd coats always seem to make any assy-looking paint job look better. What kind did you use?
|
I'd love to have a cage but my recent wreck makes me question how the insurance co would respond to it.
Nice work. |
I love the last pic... That's the happiest I've ever seen you dude!
That looks like some shitty work, but at least you won't have to worry so about the rust. No offense, but it was beginning to look like ass... |
SaWEET face! Man that must have been teeeedious.

At least it's all masked still. I think I'll have to hit up WalBogs for some flat or semi-gloss black tonight, put on a new breather mask and paint it for real. |
as this slow internet loaded the pics I was thinking to myself *damn he needs to paint that cage*. Looks good!
|
What happened to the glorious plans to make it red?
|
What a pain in the keester.

If you're going to use black still, I really like the finish "Satin Black" It falls between flat and semi, looks nice.
|
After realizing that the cage is right in my face while I'm driving, I want a flat or semi gloss, dark color. A shiny red cage would look cool, but would be distracting while driving. Plus, flat black overspray is far less noticeable than red on the carpet and headliner.
|
Get the Krylon camo ultra-flat black. It goes on even and doesn't stripe, and it's durable enough to hold up on the outside of the car, so it should be rock-solid on the inside. Primer is water-permeable anyways, so you need a finish coat.
You know me and flat black, I've tried a ton of different paints and that one holds up the best. |
Cool. I'll look for that stuff.
|
how do you do it man, so much effort, but it looks much better!
you can at least paint the back part of the cage red!!:P |
I know I'm out of the loop so forgive me, what happened to your fender?
