I felt that one!

Nice little earthquake just now at 8:00am...

Goes nicely with the snow.

100_Percent_Juice 2008-04-15 07:19 AM

...which goes nicely with the email I got containing pictures of a mule killing a mountain lion.

Mother Earth got the shivers...
At least it was only in the 3.x magnitude, with a couple of other smaller ones since. I don't really want to be here if there's a bigger one though.

There have been a string of small earthquakes around Mogul over the last few months. I bet this one was another of those.

You are in a slab house, try it in a taller one with minimal 1st floor cross support.

And it was still nothing compared to what I grew up with in CA.

Hmmm

Currently, there is no known fault in the area, but seismologists are hoping these sensors will help them get a more definitive reading.
Oh noes... It must be the Mole people!!!

JonnydaJibba 2008-04-15 08:16 AM

No it's the Crab People.

100_Percent_Juice 2008-04-15 08:35 AM

This is simply a teaser to the cloverfield II movie.

Nah... They are the ones cutting off perfect rectangular portions of the antarctic ice shelf. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzJ2mqVdThU

If you want to see what's going on with the earthquakes, check this link to the USGS...
http://quake.wr.usgs.gov/recenteqs/latest.htm

There are about 40-50 fault lines (or more) under Reno, and Verdi/Mogul area has been hit with 6.0+ quakes in 1914 and 1948.

sperry 2008-04-15 09:13 AM

Just a reminder, lots of small quakes are good! They prevent the one big snap that levels the city. I remember getting "earthquake swarms" on the Hayward fault back in San Ramon in the early '90s. At the time the Hayward fault was way over-due for a 7.0+ quake, but I think all the little 3.0-5.0 quakes (there were like 20 in a week or something crazy... it seems like one every 2 to 4 hours) must have released the tension, 'cause the big one never came.

'Course, these could just be pre-shocks. And the Hayward fault might still generate an 8.0 tomorrow. Earthquakes are unpredictable like that.

AtomicLabMonkey 2008-04-15 09:40 AM

What are these "earthquakes" you people speak of?

They are just like tornadoes except the house only moves due to the ground shaking, it doesn't get picked up off it's cinder blocks and tossed into the next county. :P

'Cause North Carolina is known for tornadoes.

Just felt another one...

... and there was no banjo playing in the distance.

knucklesplitter 2008-04-15 01:34 PM

...and another...

Dean 2008-04-15 01:35 PM

That one felt bigger. (That's what she said.... )

And another...

Maybe California is going to fall into the ocean... Or Yosemite going to erupt.

knucklesplitter 2008-04-15 01:35 PM

Another.

This is getting bothersome.

Dean 2008-04-15 01:38 PM

As Scott said, I'd much rather have a bunch of 2s & 3s than a single 5 or 6+
