Depends on the amount of prep needed and your color choice...but on average they are about $75-90 ea.

Greg what is the biggest size you can powder coat? I am welding up a squat cage this week and was thinking about getting it powder coated or at least parts of it. Do you have an oven or heating stands that you can move around?

Here is one Matt took yesterday after picking up his wheels
17's done in Stone Black---Flat Black look

MattR 2011-10-28 02:13 PM

Yeah, I think this is the perfect black for a wheel...not too blingy and shiny, but not 100% flat to show a ton of dirt.

Greg did a great job on my supertones and tow hook. I'll be going back to him for all my PC from now on. AND he got it done very fast. Thumbs up to Fine Line!

How much to powder coated a aluminum seat? Just like the one on the homepage of www.kirkeyracing.com.

Wouldn't you want to anodize an aluminum seat? Considering the seat probably flexes a bit during use, I'd think the powedercoat would eventually crack, whereas anodization would flex more.

Powder Coating is actually very flexible and I dont forsee any problems with it cracking on a seat...For instance I do coil springs for Dirtbikes all the time and most car springs are also powder coated and they dont seem to have any problem.

That would be a fairly easy piece to do but require a fair amount of powder... With a Seccs deal it be about $85 for a standard color---if you want a two coat color it would be $110
Let me know if you have any questions

I would not heat an aluminum racing seat above environmental in any manner.

Fairly thin seam welded sheets might not take well to being at 400+degrees. I would bet that would void any sanctioning/safety certifications, SFI, etc...

I have seen tons of various coverings, but don't think I have ever seen a coated or even painted seat in a sanctioned race car.

I just called Kirkey racing to verify and they infact have there seats powdercoated and offer the option of coating them when ordered even.....Kevin at Kirkey states that it will not affect the structural integrity whatsoever of the aluminum seat...he said many race teams run powdercoated seats for a better look or to go with team colors.

Dean 2011-12-13 11:24 AM

OK, I stand corrected.

I figured if some people are worried about big heavy thick wheels and heat cycling, thin sheet certified safety stuff would give them a conniption.

Weird. I always thought of PC as a hard candy coating. Didn't think it was too flexible, at least not enough to handle bending the bolsters on a seat.

zpeed 2011-12-13 12:08 PM

The seat should be here next week. I'll let you know. Thank for the quick answer and input guys.

This seat will go to Thailand so I'm not worry about sanctioning or any certifications. I just order a bunch of wheels and seats then ship them to Thailand.

I hope I didnt come across wrong there..., Just trying to make the right decision for the seat...if it did cause any issues with the seat I would definatly not coat it as it would be a liability. But you guys brought up a valid argument and I want 100% sure.

Thats what I orignally thought also before I got into coatings....It pretty crazy how many things are actually powder coated that are used like that---springs etc.

Building a San Jose Sharks themed car? :p

sperry 2012-01-27 03:03 PM

Hey Greg... what are the limits on the size of stuff you can PC? I'm eventually going to have a harness bar to get done, and I want to make sure you can handle a 5' long bar. Any issues?

sperry 2012-01-27 09:05 PM

Sure, how "roughly" though? Hanging a 5' long bar in a 5' tall box doesn't usually work. But if it can be angled in there, there's plenty of space.

I guess I should build the harness bar first, then ask the question with some real dimensions.

Fine Line does a great job at a reasonable price, and Greg stands behind his work. He is doing most of the powder coating for KSTech now.

zpeed 2012-02-02 08:46 PM

Do you have my sample colors? I'll ship pallets out next week. Another delay for the seats. They should be here by the end of the month. :(
