SECCS Geneology

Out of curiosity, I was thinking of doing a geneological tree of SECCS members. Basically, a record of who invited who to the board. So, post the name of the person that 1st told you about SECCS, and I'll compile it into a family tree!

For me: JC was the one that sent out that 1st email and got the original few together.

ArthurS 2004-11-05 12:37 PM

I can't remember but it was either You, Matt, or Preston that told me about the board on I-Club.

Well, pick one!

dknv 2004-11-05 12:59 PM

This will be interesting ...

Based on the original thread on i-club-turned-nasioc, I would have to say it was Matt R who extended the first welcome to me -- what do you think, Scott?

dknv finds reno on nasioc

ArthurS 2004-11-05 01:01 PM

I am pretty sure it was Preston.

Quote from one of my first threads on NASIOC:

Well, you bought the right car, at the right dealer, and found the right forums to get all the aftermarket info you could ever dream of.....I'll see you at a Reno meet, if we ever have one

Nice find Debbie... re-reading that, it doesn't seem all that long ago, in fact I still remember almost all of that conversation! Hard to believe that was before any of us (except you and Dean) ever Autocrossed with Reno SCCA!

I think we'll be able to find some connections in that thread... which reminds me, if you found SECCS due to posts on another board like I-Club, pick the person from the thread you felt "most influenced" by to join. This isn't rocket science, nor really important... everyone's got to have some sort of "parent" in the tree...

sperry!

Kostamojen, indirectly. He was one of the first i-clubbers that I met personally, and he's who first got me into autocross. After all the Sac events were gone, I came up here to autocross and met everybody.

LetItRev 2004-11-05 01:47 PM

While researching WRX's, I googled and came across some pictures of some guys on a drive, which led me to this site.

Sorry, you must be more specific, and identify the guys in the picture...

LetItRev 2004-11-05 04:02 PM

It was the group that took the LONGGGGGGGG drive that went up in Northern California, the coast etc. I think it was Scott and some friends.

Scott, Matt or Tyson. Those that steadily made their way to Sac events and I kept seeing that SECCS sticker on everyone's cars and had to figure out who it was.

Though, it was probably Scott that got me to move to Reno, at least. Made me realize that I could use a CompSci degree in Reno.

Hey, that drive was my baby! I still have the whole huge file of pics if you ever want it. Hopefully I'll be able to put together another one for next year.

khail19 2004-11-05 07:06 PM

JC sent me an e-mail way back, but he just gave me a link to some strange site that had nothing on it. I'm fairly sure Preston (imprezton) organized the few early meets I went to from BAIC on what was then i-club, now NASIOC. Whatever happened to that guy anyway? But Scott's the one that really got us going and told me about doink.net (SECCS).

ArthurS 2004-11-05 07:07 PM

Preston is in vegas now.

tysonK 2004-11-05 07:19 PM

Art totally snagged me from the COBB forum.

thanks dude!

Arthur told me about the group a couple of weeks after it had been created. My first meet was at your place Scott.

sperry gave me a spotted card at my first autocross with the STi, although MattR was there too, I still give Scott the credit.
Thanks guys! :D

qksubi 2004-11-06 05:53 PM

Well I think I was originaly invited by fronz :?:
But mike harris was the closer on the deal but fronz gets the credit :!:
It has almost been a year ago it was sometime in january

Nick Koan 2004-11-06 07:01 PM

Haha, found my first thread from here :p

Haha, I thought I was just going to be a semi-local lurker.

Hey guys,

This is my first post and I just wanted to introduce myself. I recently moved back in with my parents in Placerville and started to get to know some of the Sac scene people. Went to the first weekly meet in Sac as well as the last S-Squared BBQ. I remember hanging out with some of you at the last BBQ listening to the A's game from Scott's (I think) car. I was the asian (half-asian to be pendantic) kid w/ the sheared head. Good friends with Sybir (the guy w/ the Black OB thats totally stickered up) and I showed up to both of those meets with him.

Anyways, I've had just about as much of my parents as I can stand, so I'm moving this winter up to South Lake Tahoe. I figured since I was moving closer to you all, it might be a good time to register on all ya'lls nice little message board thingie you got going on here.

Hope you don't mind another lurker who may post occasionally :p
and a pic from the first meet I went to

That's the first night I took pictures of a meet with my digicam!

BOO 2004-11-08 09:30 AM

Here's my 430+ pics from the drive... was that it?

LetItRev 2004-11-08 12:30 PM

Yes I am 95% sure that this is the set of road trip pictures.

dknv 2004-11-08 12:51 PM

I think that's the trip we also featured in the Reno SCCA's October 03 wrx newsletter article - along with an excellent writeup about the trip from Scott's perspective:

http://www.renoscca.com/newsletter/O...20&%20Tach.pdf

(page 5)

Kevin M 2004-11-08 08:41 PM

Yeah, that's the very same. I forgot the pics were in the gallery. And I had no idea about the writeup in R&T.

Theo 2004-11-09 01:57 PM

I think Evan gave me the Doink address at an event at summit racing. He also gave me a ride. And inspiration for modifying the WRX family wagon.

You know how I got mixed up here.

MattR 2004-11-09 10:45 PM

I know I'm jumping in late, but I believe JC and I first talked after running into each other on I club. (pre-seccs days.) Then he stalked me for a while, I missed the first "reno" meet, and eventually we put together the next meet where I met Scott. That was frickin ages ago...

Also, Sergio, I thought you stumbled on us by accident that day at the Tamarack...I didn't know Khail told you about it before hand...cool.

sperry 2004-11-10 12:55 AM

I've got a pretty big tree built... I'm just writing some software to visualize it. In addition to the responce here, and doing some digging in old threads, I'm also using my own recollection to try and place people.

I've got a lot of people that I can group together, but don't know the actual tree. Like Evan and Ben and the rest of the people that were new back when we were still meeting at the 4th Turn...

Basically, if you've got info about people that you invited, claim them in this thread too so I can cross check what I've got.

JC 2004-11-10 08:17 AM

People I can remember...

Scott
Matt (the one who now has an unusual fancy for sheep)
Nat
Chris ---> who got Phil
Ryan (soulcrusher)
Ryan (sp00lin)
Ryan (Ry02wrx) <--- I'll get his ass back here
Brandon

People who don't really post anymore...
nandanrp
Nick (dirtdevil)
Rachel (burtoncustomRS) <--- I'll try to get her back too at some point

sperry 2004-11-10 11:15 AM

Okay, here's a dirty version of the tree... the majority of members are still "UNSORTED", so if you've got info on who goes where, or if you see any errors, post it up!

Nick Koan 2004-11-10 11:35 AM

Oh, we gotta pin lakemonster on someone.

EDIT: okay, dug some stuff up. It was JoshmkII that put that card on his car.

Also, I'm pretty sure Kostamojen first got THAWA to register here, although I have a feeling he may have known about the board sooner.

ArthurS 2004-11-10 11:52 AM

Solomon (Britten) found his way here from NASIOC, but I don't know who told him .

I talked with Ben (bogey) and got him on the boards when I met hime at the races. But when I talked to him about it, he mentioned that someone at the dealership told him about it also.

I got Vernorz to come over from the Cobb boards.

I put a card on Coopski's WRX...Now he has a STi

I got BicycleRay to come over since his shop was right near mine.

_11.8 is Jason...that name is just fake.

I got AlieNate over from when I went to the races

kinebug is when I got Colin to sign up on the forums

Evan (ZERO26D) found the forums through NASIOC I believe but I can't remember from who.

BADBORA I got to the site when Josh introduced me to him.

Thats all I can remember right now. I will ask Britten and Evan who initally invited them.

JC 2004-11-10 11:59 AM

Actually now that I think about it, I think Nick knew Chris and I met him through Nick.

I think I grabbed solomon off NASIOC.

ArthurS 2004-11-10 12:01 PM

JC, you were in some of Solomon's first posts so I would assume you lead him to us.

ArthurS 2004-11-10 12:04 PM

Evan said that khail was the one that invited him.

ArthurS 2004-11-10 12:16 PM

JoshmkII I think also found out about SECCS from the races off longley. I don't remember who invited him.

ArthurS 2004-11-10 12:17 PM

wolf and maybe even bwolf are both Britten (Solomon)

ArthurS 2004-11-10 12:31 PM

Tyson invited STiWish from the Cobb Forums:

... all long before we met you. :P

Which brings up a good point: I'm not organizing this strictly by member number and signup date since there are many people that have been "associated" with the club long before they bothered to join the site. Chris is a good example of that. Remember, no everone's an Internet whore like most of us.

Also, lot's of great info everyone! Keep it up, and I'll keep updating the tree. :D
