Nurburgring. M3 GTR. Hans Stuck.
|
OMFG!!! I thought the film had been sped up!
|
Damn... By listening to the engine, I think he actually hit whatever the aero speed limit the car has on a couple of those "straights"....
The sheer number of turns on that thing is mind boggling... I'm sure you could learn it, but even then, having your eyes up has got to be a requirement just to jog the brain cells early enough as to what is next... Now Kevin, I would agree, that probably isn't a great track for your first track event! :) |

Intense! I had to watch that last straight twice!

I keep watching this video over and I see something new every time. DAMN that car is fast.
Our mustang is built up enough that things start happening pretty fast when you're on track, but that GTR just takes it to a completely different level. I have a new respect for Stuck's driving skills.. |
did you really watch the driver? I think in one of the straights he could have shifted up one more time then he finds himself looking for the shifter in another shoot where he thought he was in a higher gear :P
just razzen he's an awsome driver 8) |

Sweet, here's an older jumping BMW, again, Hans behind the wheel...I guess he's made a few laps around that circuit over the years.

Typical Mercedes quality

By the way, I've watched that video a few times thru, and like Austin said, I see new things every time, just when I think I've got a 'feel' for the course..I swear it changes..
Anyway, the speed that car carries, and the amount of time it's spent wide open in the top hole lets you know he's flying... Very impressive vid. |

Dude, that will buff right out...
That's a fine example of what happens when your flux-capacitor kicks in BEFORE hitting 88 MPH. Damn |

"Flugplatz" would make sense for this picture. For our German impaired viewers, "Flugplatz" in German means airport. Literally translated, it means "A place to fly." |

There is also another right-left combo in there somewhere, where the wall on exit really sneaks in on you, I imagine it's claimed a few right fronts over the years. |

The car that did the flip that's most famous was an early CLK-GTR (check the dual oval headlamps, as opposed to the streamlined projectors of the Sauber Group C car) Thats it in the film clip above, on the Mulsanne straight . Note that Mercedes CLK-GTR's did this twice, and neither time were they in a slipstream that would give them an excuse, just got light and up and over they went. The Evolution model of the Porsche GT1, however, resolved a similar issue with the Porsche GT1's. An early GT1 did the same thing on a smaller Eurpean road course, on a long straight behind a Toyota, if memory serves; he got int he slipstream, negating all his front downforce, and then got light over a rise......he went vertical and then slammed back down forwards, spinning into a wall after breaking the car in half.... Scary stuff. |
I can't imagine why those "prototype" cars don't fly as well as a good old sedans and coupes...
|
That's what happens when you drive a vacuum-cleaner 150+mph and the vacuum turns off over a rise.
