No no !! It's cool when ever you have time no need to make a special trip... Unless you want to drive your baby for the hell of it .. ;) .. lol
Ohh and I am glad I asked because I was planning on buying one but was going to go into Best Buys to ask for Pro Help.. Thanks again Mike... :) |

In the one time I went to Fry's, I thought the store was cool - you can find every color of UTP and other kinds of wire you could ever hope for, pink, green, purple, silver. If I ever needed to wire my bathroom for something, I'd know right where to go. :)

The problem with Austin's joke, is that none of you remember when there was *one* Fry's and it was a giant, dank, dirty, warehouse in Fremont. (edit: I think there were actually 2 Fry's back then... both were black-holes of shipping horror.)
*Nothing* was brand name. Everything was in brown boxes, in disorganized racks. Customer service was non-existant, let alone "expert". The running joke was that all the people that worked there were too busy talking to their baby's momma on their cell phone to help you with anything. You had to be a true geek to be able to navigate the store and come out with what you were looking for... however, if you knew exactly what you needed you could usuall yfind it and get it for a raging good price. Here's an example of the jokes that used to fly back in the mid-90's: http://braith.best.vwh.net/frys.htm |
I went to that Fry's once. It's pretty cool. You can buy stuff, and no one bothers you or trys to upsell you.

Point being, if you say "I'm here for that XP1800/ECS $60 combo", they'll know you're talking about a CPU/MB package on sale instead of walking you all the way into Home Theater, thrusting an audio cable splitter into your hands, and yelling back over their shoulder "anything else you need just come see me".
|
Don't bash Fry's too hard, they're one of our customers... 8) But they still kinda suck.
|
Yea, just don't ask them to fix your computer.

Vegas has one, and its very... Vegas. Shiny, lots of lights flashing. Not like a real Fry's, its like a SuperFry's or something.

Excternal USB 52x32x52 CDRWs are $24 on pricewatch including shipping. Also what OS are you on? Only XP I beleive has built in software to burn CDs. [/topic] The original Fry's was actually in Sunnyvale. Fry's History. Yes, it was kind of a pit, but the running joke was that they had everything from Chips to Chips, those being computer and potato respecively. You'd go in for the former, and could nosh in the checkout line on all sorts of bad deep fried snack foods and sodas and pay for the empty bags and the computer stuff at checkout. |
What is out there?
What did this town do to make NG? |

Thanks Dean, we've completely derailed this thread... I thought the first Fry's was in San Jose, but I think I'm thinking of the Good Guys on AlumRock... |

OK, how did a geek thread turn into a Nevada geography/history lesson?
Moderators, get control. Oh wait, it is one of the moderators that is contributing to the diversion...  |

Elko has a rep from like 100 years ago. Nowadays they have subdivisions, a Wal-mart and fly in 737's. They're trying to bill themselves as a tourist destination because the big mining boom is over for now. It's actually a pretty tame place for Nevada.
When I was a fifteen-year-old kid in Yerington (this little farm/ranch town about 1.5 hrs from Reno), somebody made the mistake of telling me that it was perfectly legal to carry, as long as it was open instead of concealed. So, I started wearing my .45 Colt everywhere. It makes for a good story now, I guess, and it was definately a better fashion statement than bell-bottoms or something. That was back when I was driving a '73 Land Rover, and didn't know what a Subaru was. |

At least Fry's Employees know what they are lucid and coherent. And they don't start telling you stories about when Zombies attacked the store the other night. |
