Window Tinting FAQ
Well I know some people are interested in getting some window tinting done, fear the summer sun!
EDIT: My car(now totaled not by me)is the black sedan if you have been to the meets. I have 20% all around(the four side windows and rear window). I had my tint for almost 2 years and I have never been pulled over for having it too dark. 20% is illegal in the front door windows, IIRC 35% is the limit. I paid $180 cash at the place listed below. He did and awesome job. On my old NEON I had a $250 pro job, and this guy below did better work than Trimline on Greg St versus price not customer service. He did the job in about 1.5 hours. Be warned this is a one man operation and there may be a wait to get in. Custom Window Tinting Thomas Kang 2850G Wrondel Way Reno NV 775-829-0707 |
Nice, that guy does nice work...Hey Tyson, I still owe you a new window for the "mishap"...I'll cover it if you want to get it re-done...
I need to get a tint strip put on my new windshield, I wonder if he'll do it for cheap. |

And, keep in mind that some window tinting can lower the effectiveness of a radar detector - if that's important to you.
|
what about tinting the front window.. I just saw my friends IS300 back home (went home for the weekend for a rifle match) and he has 5% all around and 50% tint on the front. the front tint makes the car (which is black) look cool. Was wondering what you guys thought of doing the front window..

I think front tint is nice, really helps darken the inside of the car, I haven't seen a lot of people do that around here though. If I lived in Phoenix, I'd tint the front like 20%
|
he did my evo and man it is a very clean job!!!! I would recommend him in a heartbeat
I also previously went to trimline also, and they were like $280 for the same thing, but man he works like a mad man. |
That's the same guy that did my semi-metalic 35% all around for $200.
|
Now I know where I'm going. Thanks for the insight everyone. :)

Im pondering the tint thingy..yet I worry I'll lose the bronze tint effect that my SVX has..if I do decide to get it done Ill go with Tyson's ref

|
Double post that didnt show for me until today...*sigh* when will my bad connection cease to amaze me?
|
Tint strip at the top, no limit on how dark.
|
How big can the strip be...cause id make it the whole windshield >_> heh

I always wanted to do a light mirror tint on my windshield to keep the heat out. I've seen minivans that come with it stock. |
more like 6" max top and bottom :D
|
Ill wait to see duckies, and see if I like it
|
Made my appt! Middle of April, but that's 'cause I'll be in-n-out of town during the next few weeks. This guy sounds super-busy, but pretty professional.
|
Thomas did mine yesterday. Looks to be very quality --- I got the 5yr material (he said it was a little thicker) for $18 more. Total for the wagon was ~$185. I'll take some pics when I wash the sucker.
|
Is that 5 windows or 7?
|
7 windows!

Yeah, that's an awesome price. You have a coupon, or did you bring kneepads, or what? :p
Post pics y0! Or bring it down for the meet tomorrow. :) |

No coupon, but I did plug SECCS ("see that sticker?") and said that several of the group highly recommended his work and that he would likely see more of us. When I asked for the total, he said "what price did I quote?", and I said "no quote, I was told you were the right one to do the job --- how much?" That's pretty much how that went. Can't make the meet (again), but I'll get pics going as soon as I wash the sucker. |

Here are a couple quick shots I took over the weekend:

Sweet. I love tint. Can't live without. I just did 20% on the titan, and the cab is nice and dark now. Car looks good man..

Thanks! What's that about moving to AZ? You gonna be truckin' down there or what? |

No, just a tempting idea considering the opportunities down there with real eastate, jobs, chicks, etc... I think I'm staying put for now. |
Thomas just did my windows, and so far so good. I just called the other day, and I was lucky enough to get a cancellation that I could slide right in to immediately.
No pics yet, hopefully soon, but so far the quality looks good. It still has to dry for a couple of days. I'll hopefully take some pics in the next few days. |

Awww thomas wont do SVXi...so just to clerify before I call trimline what are the legal limits on the front windows?
|
35% front is the darkest they will go (the legal limit).
|
even for the front door windows?
|
Yup. Front door windows (whether they roll down or not) can't be lower then 35%
|
Crap, I was just about to call Tom about getting my SVX done....
Looks like I need to just get the material and give it a shot myself. I'm not paying Trimline $700 to tint my car. ... an SVX for my 1st attempt ever at tinting. I'm a retard. |

"I'm going to get my registration out of the glove box, officer." "My license is in my wallet in my back pocket, officer." You make their job a shitload easier when you let them know what you're doing. Remember, those guys don't know you, and have to treat every stop like the person's armed and pissed off. |
How about back windows and then the rear windshield(if thats what ya wanna call it)
I wish I actually knew about these laws =/ |
