Atwater autocross
It looks like i'm gonna be down there this weekend, If anybody is interested in going, pm me we can discuss plans or something. I'm from Merced, and I used to live 10 min. from Castle air force base, so I know my way around that area, can probably show some people an alright time! :)

Sweet Man, I can;t go, but I hear that is a really sweet venue.

Well, Scott, Pat, Austin, Dean, Debbie have all run there if I'm not mistaken, and said it was fast.
|
I'm signed up for the national tour event this weekend. (Likely getting my butt kicked by at least 2 other lady drivers who are national champions, but it's a great experience and a chance to visit with folks I haven't seen in awhile.) I don't know when my run group is yet, though.

I'm still up for going out sometime in the next month or two for one of the AAX events.
|
I don't think I'm going to bother with a National Tour event this season since it's a ton of work for 6 runs... and I'm gonna get creamed in SM.
However, I'm totally down for an AAX event assuming I can fit it in my schedule. |
Well, I got creamed in my class, but Saturday's course was one of the most thrilling experiences I have had in autox. While I don't think I exceeded 60mph on any part of the course, the g-forces were amazing. They laid out a wide open fast course, with a few places where you had to 'thread the needle' to get through cleanly, and finally come flying in through the finish.
I have the Koni shocks now, and combined with the grippy pavement and the hoosiers, I could not believe how well the car stuck. I had a bad time with cones though, and am guessing I need to learn to turn in a split second later than I'm used to with the new equipment. I hope you guys get a chance to get out to an American Autox series event there this year. I forgot how much fun that site is. btw, thanks Chris for stopping by & saying Hi! |

It was my pleasure!! The course looked amazingly fast, I can't even imagine how fast it felt! There was a butt-load of cars out there too. I wish I could've stayed longer. |
How did you do Chris? What class were you in? STS or DSP?
I've heard there was a big debacle in STX. |

As far as Atwater, that place is a *great* facility. The tarmac's quite harsh, but the shape of the site lends itself to some awesome courses. It looks like June 4-5 is the next AAX event at Atwater that doesn't conflict with anything already on our schedule. I might want to hit that up for some Atwater fun! BTW: I just added the AAX schedule to our calendar! |

whew! I had been meaning to get around to finding it and posting it, Now I don't have to do it! :) |

How about this time you bring the Mustang up, and I'll co-drive it! That 5 hour drive from Reno on my race suspension is a PITA! |
Quote:
How about Me and Austin co drive your WRX? You can spray water on the tires or something. |
Quote:
Edit: I got a better idea... you guys drive my WRX, but you have to talk Carrie into letting me race her Mini. ;) |

Screw you Pal... |

If I were planning on going, I'd be totally fine with that, but I don't think I'll make this trip actually, I've been talking shit mostly :P |

Indeed, I deserved that. |
Well, if I come to this event it will be in a different car. I have officially decided to sell my Mustang. :( We picked up a 95 Cherokee this weekend to replace the old 87 that crapped out on us, and depending on how much the Mustang sells for I may be looking for an early 90s Miata very soon as the new project car.

Basically I would like to get more track experience and eventually build up the project car for competition before I'm an old man, and it's just too damn expensive to do it in a Mustang. Selling it will pay for the new Jeep plus something like a Miata, which you can get for under $3G now. Plus, I can tow something small & light like that with the Cherokee, which you can't do with a heavier car like a Mustang... so pretty much every cost related to having & operating the track car goes down considerably.

It can be all yours for the low low price of $8500. ;)

Selling it is a real bummer... plus it sucks cause even if I get 8500 out of it, whoever buys it will be getting all of those aftermarket parts at basically 50% off, already installed free of labor. I totalled up retail value on every single part I have on the car and it was disturbing how much money I've sunk into that thing.
|
Sucks to hear about it Austin. No chance of making back a little more money by parting out?
|
I could make some more cash parting it out, but honestly I just don't want to have to deal with the hassle of pulling the whole car apart and shipping off a million different pieces. Since I have to get rid of it, I just want it gone quickly so I can move on to something else.
|
Austin, in all seriousness, if you sell this but want to get into a relatively well-prepped GT in the future, DZ down here in Sac has a (96?) GT witha full Griggs Word Challenge suspension on it, cage, etc, that he's perpetually trying to get rid of. Check out http://dzstoys.com/ if you want to look at pics and mods, etc.
|
I've actually seen that car before... it wouldn't exactly be my first choice though since it's prepped by one of our main competitors. If I ever get another Mustang it probably won't be for a long while though... like when I'm retired or something.

Yeah, I know, I know :D
