STI Unveiled.

Here's your car, BOO:

2.5L H4 Turbo, 300 HP
front and rear LSD, Driver controlled Center Diff.

Well, just go check out NASIOC. There are about 87 threads :D

ArthurS 2003-01-06 07:15 PM

300lbs of torque @ 4,000 rpm.......

goddam.....how much they gonna be....

35k?

imprezton 2003-01-06 11:32 PM

Street is saying $32K....but I think $35K is about right with limited release dealer mark-up.

Forget everything I said about building a WRX......2.5 semi-closed-deck turbo with forged alum pistons etc, and especially with DCCD: this is a whole new ballgame, man.

BOO 2003-01-07 08:08 AM

Goodness Graceous Great BALLS of FIRE !!!!!!!!!!!!! .. LOL... I showed my wife the msn's release info and coverage and she says .. and I quote" 6-SPEED, 2.5, 300HP ? That's the one !!!!!!!!! "

ArthurS 2003-01-07 10:08 AM

Good luck getting one. Like I said, Lithia is only going to receive 5 of them into their inventory. The General Manager and his friend already claimed 2. The other 3 will be gone the day they hit the pavment.

Consider the $32K to be the DOWN payment and the $950 to be the MONTHLY payment. Good news, though. Will just turned 12 yesterday. You'll have them both paid off 6 years from now!

BOO 2003-01-11 07:27 AM

BOO 2003-01-11 07:28 AM

I have some bad news for you, man. I've got 2 daughters, 21 & 18. When they start going to college and what not, they get MORE expensive, not less. I thought they'd be "paid off" at 18 too, but I was wrong  .

Enjoy them while they're still cheap and think of you as "Dad", not "wallet with legs"!

I went to Lithis the other day to talk to the service dept. about some noises in my car (front right wheel), and ended up talking to a salesman about the Sti. He said that the US is only getting 500 Sti's the first year. He said they would be lucky to see 5 here in Reno.

And like I mentioned before, 2 have been claimed by the owner and the gm or something. Do any of you know if this is true? Is there only that many coming over? If so, a lot of people are going to be dissapointed.

sperry 2003-01-14 01:12 PM

There's a ton of speculation about the number of these cars coming over. Check out the STi Info forum on NASIOC: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/foru...amp;forumid=83

So far the best info we have from SOA is 5000 units a year... not 500. Chances are tho, if the car keep selling, they'll keep making them, like they did w/ the WRX... The STi is *not* a limited edition car... the STi Spec-C and Type-RA models are the limited ones (which we're not getting at all in the US).

Also, the dealers still know next to nothing about the STi... they're speculating just like us, but being dealers, they like to act like they know what they're talking about.

For example: when I bought my car, the dealer told me the WRX's A/C was totally electric so "it doesn't sap power from the motor".

I was like, "really, so where's the power come from?"

"The alternator"...

"sure... but where's the alternator get power from?"

"uh... oh."

'Course the whole thing was a moot point, since the A/C compressor is powerd by a *belt* from the motor. See, dealers are usually the last place to get "good" info from.

ArthurS 2003-01-14 01:44 PM

Ah. I thought they might actually have some knowledge. Now I am wondering if I should even let them look into my car. Recently, whenever I go over a bump or turn right, there is a knock in my right front tire. It has progressed to something faily loud and often now.

Maybe I should scedule a appointment with the one in Carson instead of Lithia. Hhmmmm.

sperry 2003-01-14 01:46 PM

I've had *much* better luck in Carson as far as service goes.

Think the sound might have something to do with the bumper incident? We can get under the car and take a look at it when we do the gauge install... but you might want to have it looked at sooner than that.

ArthurS 2003-01-14 01:58 PM

Well, I had it looked under by the body shop guy that fixed my bumper, and said he didn't notice anything. another guy there said that when the bumper was installed, that someone may have not tightened something down or left something loose. Either way, its very loud and noticable until about 30 mph.

If it is because of the tree incident, then it wouldn't be covered under warrenty I assume? Either way, I need to find out soon what it is.

sperry 2003-01-14 02:00 PM

Well, if it's a lose part due to the repair, then the repair guys should fix it for free. If it's tree damage, it's somthing that went unnoticed by the repair guys, and they were supposed to fix *all* the damage right? In which case it's also their issue (but may not be free to get fixed).

You know, you might wanna bring it back to the guys that fixed the bumper!

ArthurS 2003-01-16 10:46 AM

Wel I dropped off my car this morning. I am going to give Lithia a chance. I turned it in with 2 seperate noises. One is the one I described, that knock when ever i turn right or go over a bump. The other is when I am going above 50mph, and let off the gas, if makes a whirring noise, but right when i put the gas back on it goes away.

My head hurts....all these noises are driving me insane.

You should try driving my car. The rattle/clunk from my front end when I go over bumps drives me nuts. I think I have a ball joint or tie-rod end going bad or something. At least your car is quieter than a modified Ford mustang. It sure goes fast though, I guess that's the important part.

Um, I'm pretty sure, if it's making noise it *is* bad... not "going bad", lol. Get yer coil-overs!! Then you will 0wnZ0r!

ArthurS 2003-01-17 09:39 AM

Well, got work back from Lithia's Service shop. The say that the knock noise in the front wheel is from the AXEL SHAFT, which needs to be replaced. The noise from decelleration over 50 mph, is from the WHEEL BARRINGS.

They would like 804.00$ for it to be replaced. I am not sure if I should attempt to take it to another shop to see if they are cheaper, or can make sure this is the actual problem.

Just one issue after another.

Dude do you change your signature like every other day now or what? lol

sperry 2003-01-17 09:45 AM

Take it to Carson 1st. My car had all kinds of _clutch related_ deceleration noise. My clutch was replaced under warrenty at Carson... but Lithia refused to admit there was even a problem.

I also have a hard time believing the wheel bearings are shot... how old is this car? Smacking the bumper on somthing like you did should not effect the wheel bearings AFAIK. However, a bent drive shaft would cause vibration that you might hear only when braking from high speeds...

My opinion, get a second opinion. I don't trust the guys at Lithia... especially Joe, he seems like your basic scamming mechanic to me. The fellas at Carson are up on their game.

Yeah, wheel bearings are pretty sturdy pieces... especially with newer cars, they usually only go bad after lots of mileage. My 1987 Jeep has over 150000 miles including bad weather/snow/offroad use and it's wheel bearings are just fine. Most newer cars have sealed wheel bearings that don't need checking or maintenance for a *long* time.

ArthurS 2003-01-17 10:28 AM

I scheduled a appointment on Tuesday for Carson Subaru. It seems like they actually have a idea what they are talking about.

The guy at Lithia I was talking to is Merv or Marv or something. He sadi both things happend from hitting the tree. Funny thing is, the wheel barrings thing happened after 500 miles on the car, but he won't honor the warrenty.

GOD I HATE PEOPLE!

ArthurS 2003-01-17 11:17 AM

Such a turn of events can happen so fast. My day has turn from bad to very good.

Turns out that Lithia was very wrong, and both those pieces are fine. (They must have lied and they were probably going to replace my good parts for new parts an charge me) The problem was that the sway bar was loose. They tightened it, and bam, problem went away.

I am still taking it down to Carson on TUesday just to make sure.

Thanks for the help.

Arthur

sperry 2003-01-17 11:27 AM

Lithia is the worst.

Go to Carson, and get verification that nothing's wrong. Then file a complaint with Subaru of America... I've got the contact info, since I filed one about a year ago:

SOA Customer Service: 1-800-782-2783

At the minimum complain that their service guys are incompetent... you don't necessarily have to accuse them of trying to rip you off. Tell SOA just tell SOA to keep your complaint on record, so if/when other people complain there's a history of complaints. You can reference my complaint if you'd like: Case Number 374 524.

I pisses me off that they can keep up such poor service. I'll bet they regularly tell people there's major problems hoping they'll be like, "ok fix it i guess" right away. Since you hesitated, they prolly decided to just fix your problem so you don't go elsewhere and find out they were making it up.

ArthurS 2003-01-17 11:35 AM

YEa, your probably right. The cool thing was, when I called Carson Subaru, he asked how my axle shaft got damaged, and I told him I hit a small tree. HE said, "Well lets not mention that to Subaru.....you never hit a tree."

I thought that was hella cool of him, and because of his friendly attitute and so far from what I have heard, dependable service, I will be a customer of theres for now on.

Is that bad to post it on here? Do any of your work for Subaru or Lithia?

sperry 2003-01-17 11:51 AM

no, i was kidding...

<paranoia>
But you're leaving an electronic "paper trail"!!

ArthurS 2003-01-17 12:09 PM

Damn papaer trails.....

I will call SOA today. Carson seemed so much better. I hate to do that do Lithia only because I know the General Manager, and he has been friends with my family for a long time. But maybe it will help him decide to get a new service staff.

Whaaa!!? Dude, talk to the GM!!! You'll get *way* better service once they know you're down with the GM!!!

And while yer talking to him... give him my story:
http://www.doink.net/gallery/Doink%2...%20History.doc

Lithia needs to get their act together... their Service Dept. gives Subaru a bad rep.

ArthurS 2003-01-17 02:35 PM

I have to go talk to him soon actually, about insurance, so ill bring up both our experiences and see what he can do. Ill post what he says.

sperry 2003-01-17 02:35 PM

Awesome!!

ZER026D 2003-01-19 04:13 PM

I would have to disagree with that every time I have gone to carson subaru for service I get the worst service. I took it to them twice to get the steering wheel strait and they could not they said I need to rotate and balance my tires I did no fix and they charged me for it. The first time I took it to Lithia they fixed it and the guy Marvin he has always helped me out good giving me work for free and I didint even buy my car there.

ArthurS 2003-01-19 04:58 PM

Marvin was very nice about how he handled everything. I believe that some of the service people there are out to rip people of.

I hope I never have to go to another shop again anyway.

ZER026D 2003-01-19 06:51 PM

Well I think that carson subaru is the worst subaru shop in the country so go ahead and take your car there I wont not after they couldint put my steering wheel strate thats laim they cant even do elignment in house they take it someware els I will never recomend them to any body.

ArthurS 2003-01-20 03:12 PM

Well my car is feeling better, so I won't need to bring it down there. But thanks for the advice.

Whenever there is a problem, I could always take it into Sac.
