Top Gear video *beware*
Dont get me wrong guys, you all know i love STi's and subaru's in general. so if you have a firm hate for evo's do NOT watch this video. but i do believe A true Enthusiast would enjoy watching the video. anyway, it's the first time i've ever seen it.
It's very interesting to see the difference in performance around the track side by side. That STi's got great color doesn't it? also, the JDM fog's look sick! let me know what you all think. :) http://media.racingflix.com/rfvids/r..._vs_WRXSti.wmv |
I always knew this site was full of little boys... ;)

watched the vid........the only thing I can say is - have fun trying to get a FQ320 in the states....... oh and did you see the price difference between a reg. Evo VIII and the FQ320 model? I want to say thanks for showing me that the 50K plus car (not avalible here) can beat my 30K car
I guess if you want a mans car you must live in England..... |
Quote:
FQ320 = 30,000 UK Pounds = $52,700 US Dollars UK STi Spec-C = 27,500 UK Pounds = $48,300 US Dollars They're only about $4500 apart, not $20,000. |
In case anyone was wondering, "FQ" stands for fucking quick. Perdon le french. And even more obvious than that, 320 stands for the amount of horsepower. I was reading a Sport Compact Car rag a couple months back, and if I remember correctly, there is an even faster evo, like fq 400 or something like that.

now in the clip they show the WR1 as only .6 sec faster then my STi, with this in mind I would save my cash and buy a USDM STi.............and save 20k :P |

If the FQ320 was available in the US, it would be significantly cheaper than it is in the UK. Assuming the 35% price difference between the US Sti and the UK Spec-C carries over to the FQ320 if it were brought to the US, the FQ320 would cost approximately $34,200. Which is actually even less than the $4500 difference over the STi I already guessed. The bottom line: the FQ320 is serious bang for the buck... probably even more-so than the US STi. But I'd still rather have the 2.5L motor. |

So if you want to compare your US STi's bang-to-buck ratio vs. the UK's FQ320's bang-to-buck ratio, you have to compare apples-to-apples, which means either estimating the value of the US STi in the UK, or estimating the value of the FQ here in the States. Otherwise your comparison is worthless. FYI: the FQ320 *is* an EVO MR... just tuned. In the UK, the FQ300 (which is what I'd guess is closest to our EVO MR) goes for 28,000 UK pounds, which is about $49,800. The US EVO MR's MSRP is $34,700... which is about 30% cheaper than it's UK sister, and right in line with my previous estimates. Quote:

again thanks for the imput...........maybe you should have just watched the video

If you were in Britan, the USDM STi would be very expensive to import. Probably close to what either the FQ or the WR1 would cost (if not more). If you were in the US (like, of course, we are), then of course the FQ would be ridiculiously expensive. I don't know anyone that would import it here, pay the UK price plus the necessary import fees. That would be just plain stupid. Why not just get a USDM STi or EVO (MR or not). The FQ, relatively speeking of its destined market, is quite a good bang for the buck. (and yes, I did watch the video) |

And there isn't a lick of information regarding price conversions and car values between the US and UK, and therefore has zero impact on our discussion, aside from being the genesis of your statement that the STi has a higher performance to value ratio. |
haha it's funny. all i wanted to do was show a cool video. dont need to go freaking out.. both are great cars and let just say, the SAME type of tests were done in the UNITED STATES on both USDM cars. the STi still had the understeer and the Evo was slower in straight line speed. and here we're talking almost no price difference. I think a more fair comparison would have been teh STi spec C.. but it costs more.. i only say that because money seems to be a heated topic of debate here. anyway, i like both cars alot and have read enough magazines that have tried to prove that one is better than the other..

I don't know about freaking out.
Just a little conversation! |
Tyson stop freaking out

Should be good to go. I clicked on it too, but for some reason the Firefox extension handler didn't work properly, and it ruined my browser. |
when I do right click saving option it saves it as a text document! :liljon:

change the extension to .wmv and have at it.

A rear sway bar and tire pressure check would help the WR1 plus I have had a EVO I still think the gear box is shit oh yeah mike your actual car would kill that car so dont fell bad :P
|
actually, the gear box/transmission is good on the evo.. it's very strong and durable. however it's not quite as smooth as the STi.. well not quite is an understatment.. it really blows ass compared to the feel of the wrx/Sti tranny's. the clutch on the other hand.. sucks balls.. and thats a 2000 dollar mod... haha
i'ts been 2 months since i've driven the evo.. i'm beginning to think my 91 integra is fast! woo hooooo |
Do you need somebody to car sit? I'm sure one of us would be willing to "start it up" now and again as needed or not... :)

I'd be willing to auto-x it! |

Why the hell arnt you driving your evo?! Are you in Hawaii?
Evo > Sti - period. :D |

I think what the video demonstrates, once again, is that the EVO is the better handling car out of the box than the STi. The Subaru is just plagued by a pushy factory setup, probably due to safety concerns. I'd bet a factory EVO vs. a factory STi + rear swaybar would be damn near identicle... but stock-for-stock, the EVO's gonna be faster on a course w/ turns. |

What would you suggest to do to the front-end to get the same effect at the same cost/simplicity? I can't think of anyway to gain front traction for so cheap. 'Cept for maybe trying to run some R-compounds up front that exactly match the RE070's diameter at the rear. |

I'm not sure if this one is there, but there are tons of Top Gear videos posted on WRXF if your interested. I'll have to check this one out tonight to see if its the one I think it is. :)
