Wave at me

EDIT: See post number 8 for updated mod list!

if you see me driving around Carson City or Reno sometime! I'm hard to miss; my plates give me away: NOTURBO.

JC pointed me here from the rs25.com forums. I'm fairly new to the scene - just got my '05 RS back in June.

I'm gonna keep this post short and sweet, since I have a long day of work ahead of me. I'll have a few pix up tomorrow afternoon (or if you're really impatient, try this link ;) ), along with some more info.

With that, I'm off to bed to dream of N/A builds.

Kevin M 2005-07-31 11:45 PM

Out with the old, in with the new today. Welcome dude!

Libila 2005-08-01 02:00 PM

JC 2005-08-01 05:47 PM

You guys are welcome to come bug me at work for a few minutes if you're in the area - I run the Gamestop on Topsy Ln, between Walmart and Best Buy. If you see the white RS parked right outside, then I'm there!

bruspeed, how'd you get your plate mounted on the foglight cover like that?

And now for the pix!

tysonK 2005-08-01 11:17 PM

Nice pictures, So serene and white.

Gotta tint those windows son! That should be number one on the list.

M3n2c3 2005-08-01 11:41 PM

Mmm, I forgot to add that. Fixed. I really do want tint. That black interior gets damn hot.

Word. I fabbed up some little pieces of alluminum. Not very hard. Just folded them over the fog light cover.

M3n2c3 2005-08-02 10:46 PM

That's cool - I like the clean grill look. Really makes me wish we weren't required to display the front plate. :~:

SlickNick112 2005-08-19 08:41 AM

Jeremiah,
hey dude, nice to meet you last night. Good luck with the moding process. It's a fun hobby. take care.

SlickNick112 2005-08-19 08:42 AM

Jeremiah,
hey dude, nice to meet you last night. Good luck with the moding process. It's a fun hobby. take care. I thought I noticed that your windows WERE tinted last night. Or was it just because it was late/dark.?

M3n2c3 2005-08-19 09:48 PM

They've just got the basic UV protective deal - just a slight stock tint. It's enough to keep my arms from burning while I drive, but not enough to keep the heat out.

Thanks for letting me get a listen at your exhaust - now I have a basis for comparison and a pretty good idea of what I'm looking for.

Last night was cool, everyone seems to be "good people." I'm looking forward to the next!

SlickNick112 2005-08-22 02:29 PM

So far so good....... people that is. I like everyone that I've met through the club, so far. Everybodies heart seems to be in the right place. Thats been important for me. See you soon, my birthday is on Thursday, so I will be amped at the meet.

M3n2c3 2005-08-26 09:59 AM

Where were ya maaaannnn? :?:

And what about bruspeed?

My car gets turbocharger-envy when it has to represent all on its own. . . :D

Bling!

Blue "I" badge and an STi titanium "piston" shift knob. Why the only shift knob I like has to cost me $115, I'll never understand. :P

Also, updated my detail post up above with current mods and actual manufacturer choices for the rest of my parts. Bling is done, now on to the performance! All I need is money. . .

MPREZIV 2005-10-09 10:28 PM

diggin the covers! I like the fogs exposed on the older subies, but the covers look good on the gd body!

Considering the RS comes stock like this, the covers are a necessary improvement. Note the inclusion of foglight inserts but total lack of actual foglights

I dig the covers :D

JC 2005-10-10 07:19 AM

Wait a minute, short ram? Why no cold air?

M3n2c3 2005-10-10 07:24 AM

The Injen is interchangeable, and since I'll be putting it on in the winter, I figure I'll at least start with the short-ram configuration. I'll update the post to match.

JC 2005-10-10 07:26 AM

Why waste power with it in a short ram config?

M3n2c3 2005-10-10 03:49 PM

I'm gonna try it out both ways and see what happens. I've talked to people that say there's not much difference between the two, and then I've talked to people that say the difference is big enough to warrant the extra install work. So we'll see.

Ezdno 2005-11-07 06:47 PM

In case no one told ya yet, in the last voting in Nevada they repealed the manditory front license plate law. I am sure some occifers will still pull ya over because they can, but its only cause they want to see your car up close, instead of just the tailights.

 Really? The DMV website doesn't reflect this.

But if it's true, then

Ezdno 2005-11-07 08:52 PM

I do some consulting in the new and used car auto industry, and have several contacts that all said the same thing. I did not see it posted on there either, but most of these guys are constantly under DMV scrutiny so I figured they would know best. I do know I was pulled over for no seatbelt.....well no front license plate back in may, and when I told him I didnt have one he said ok no problem...now about that no seatbelt. I will dig a bit deeper to verify that.

M3n2c3 2005-11-07 09:01 PM

Fantastic. I had been wondering again recently. I noticed a few cars the other day with no front plates, and it just popped back in my mind.

MattR 2005-11-07 09:41 PM

Can you find it published in the NRS re: the no front plate? I would love to have proof of that law.

Ezdno 2005-11-07 10:03 PM

I will see tomorrow where, what publication these guys got their info from.

MorganK 2005-11-10 12:01 AM

hella genoa.

M3n2c3 2005-11-10 12:22 AM

Eh? :?:

So any word on the front plates?

MorganK 2005-11-10 12:25 AM

ahh. washoe.

M3n2c3 2005-11-10 12:30 AM

Yeah, the pix were taken in Washoe. Do me a favor - going forward, humor me with a full sentence, so I can easily understand what you're getting at. It's nearly 1AM, I've been up since 6AM, and I worked a little over 14 hours today. :P

Ezdno 2005-11-10 07:43 AM

I have a call in to some people at the DMV, but the person that originally gave me that info said that the dealerships receive some sort of newsletter from DMV and it was in that publication, he is currently looking for it.

cody 2005-11-10 08:27 AM

+1 for proof. :)

Ezdno 2005-11-11 06:27 PM

Ok the definative answer here, Quarterly the DMV publishes a newsletter, which is sent to each of the dealers, Apparently the one from October has a "clarification" of the current statute regarding front license plates. I have not seen the issue, but the people that told me of the new law are telling me this is where it was read.

The current law in a nutshell says, all cars must have a front license plate unless there is no place for one from the factory. I am not sure if there was a previous law about this that was different, I was always under the impression that all cars must have a front plate regardless of factory location or not. I do know in the 80s I got 2 $25 tickets for no front license plates. So the 3 people that I talked to at the dealer didn't give me all the details before I opened my big mouth.

I talked to my friend that works at DMV, her answer was that, yes two plates are required unless no factory mounting location is available. She said basically each agency will interpret the law as they see fit, and in most cases you will probably only get a fix it citation, however as with what happened to me in my honda, they wanted to pull me over to check me out, so he used the "no front plate" as an excuse..if your doing something you shouldnt, or they think you are, no front plate just give them the excuse to look at you a bit closer.

My apologies for getting our hopes up. :(

M3n2c3 2005-11-11 10:19 PM

Oh well

I wonder if I can 'interpret' that by saying my front bumper did not have holes drilled for a plate?

I'm not going to take a chance on leaving it to interpretation. . . :P

khail19 2005-11-12 08:03 AM

I haven't run a front plate since I bought my RS (12/02) and I've never had a problem with the cops. *Keeps fingers crossed*

M3n2c3 2005-11-13 10:40 AM

I think we chatted about this at the meet on thurs for a few minutes, and the general consensus seemed to be, "why give them another reason to stop you?" I figure between my suspension drop, other forthcoming mods such as exhaust, and plates that say, "NOTURBO," I'll be getting eyeballed anyway. :P

Oh yeah, since I finally got my plates replaced, I'll have new pix of the car this evening.

=======EDIT=======
No pix yet. Stupid DST - it was dark by the time I finished washing the car and applying my SECCS decals.

The updates are: coilovers (and the resulting drop) and the SECCS decals

New pix, too!

sperry 2006-03-28 01:44 PM

Those wheels are the shit on a white Impreza! No offense to Nick, but they look like 10 times better than they did on his red LGT.

JC 2006-03-28 01:58 PM

It's looking good man, time to clear your headlights though.

JonnydaJibba 2006-03-28 02:12 PM

And to re-trade your taillights lol.

cody 2006-03-28 02:14 PM

I thought those looked like 06 tails...not a fan. Car looks good though.

Yeah that is quite a coincidence they look like 06s considering that's what they are.

cody 2006-03-28 02:17 PM

Pipe down halfling. I think it's more than fairly obvious that I realize that.
