Import performance shop in Reno?
Well, is there one? guys? :?:
|
This is not intended to be snide, or sarchastic, but might read that way.
Define Import, Performance, and Shop? Better yet, describe what you want done on what car, and we will see if we can help. There is at least one HONDA type rice shop, and at least one catering to actual racing performance type stuff, but it all depends. |
I'm just bored. I wanted to check them out just for the heck of it.
|
Well, if you are just bored, there is always Summit out in Sparks. But, they'll sell you anything, so you have to be careful.

When I bought those gas cans before the RFR track day I was in there for over an hour. 20 minutes at the cashier while I argued with them because I refused to give my name and address and a DNA sample, then at least 45 minutes while the retards at the parts counter looked in the warehouse.
I have also been there twice before, and it was a ridiculously long wait both times as well. |
Next time just give them Dean's name Mike. ;) Last couple times I've been there I was in and out in under 10 minutes, and one of those was during one of their show-and-shines.

Cory's friend has a shop in Reno. They have some ok cars.
|
So is it cheaper to buy RedLine products from Sumit in sparks than online? And are they the same as sumitracing.com?
|
They are one in the same.
|
There is a shop on 2nd st. called New Era Automotive Creations, its the only import PERFORMANCE shop I know of, in the area. They're more of a Nissan/Toyota shop, from what I've seen.
|
Performance is a loosely used term there from what I've seen of cars with NEAC stickers, and the 2 guys that have handed out business cards from them that look like rave flyers.
|
They actually do some decent work at NEAC. I've helped out with a lot of crap over there, and they aren't total hacks. I'd reccomend them if you're looking for a shop to do some less involved work. If you need a complete engine build, I say find a machine shop. But, for most power adders and repair work, they are a good place to go. The shop doesn't have a ton of money, so you don't get a high end shop feel from the atmosphere, but they are good guys.
If you go there, tell them "Black Cory" sent ya! |
I think I'm going to tell everyone I meet "Black Cory" sent me!!
|
Everyone you meet?
"Mr President, black Cory sent me!" |
Don't know if that will work just anywhere, but I can say that if you go to NEAC or Nissan of Reno, it will get you in! I do feel honored tho. . .
|
btw, I do everything on my cars myself. (I'm a mechanic btw) I've been to summit... and uh... well... I don't own a single american car. And I don't like apc, tsudo, crap products.
Where is 2nd street? sorry, I'm a complete newb in Reno. |
Their car is slow. So, if you want to get it tuned, thats not the place to go. However, there is a NEW shop in town, with a single turbod supra, a dyno, and a guy who is AEM certified or something? So, supposedily he can tune. I just got back to reno, so I dont know much about it, but you should ask around and check it out.

It's on Greg St. in Sparks.Right across from Ralston-Purina. That Supra is crazy looking. |
What exit? off what highway? do I take to get to Greg st. :D I told you guys I'm completely new to Reno
|
|
Yep! I do work at Nissan of Reno, and I know Robbie well! He's a great guy! He's our parts dept. shipping and receiving guru.
SpOOln, you said their car is slow? You mean the Z? It's not slow dude. Technically, it is right now, as the motor's out of it. (broke the skirt off #3 piston) But, with the supercharger and intercooler, that thing runs like a striped ass ape! |

Anyways, I ran down to that new performance shop today, ForcefedRacing. Let me just say that I was not unimpressed. Seems like he could go somewhere and provide some decent parts for the community. You guys should go take a look at the place if you have some free time. |

I was at Nissan of reno today. Those guys are so easy to deal with, damn, other dealerships ***cough-Subaru**** could learn something.
|
MattR: Thanks for the props dude. We really do try to be a dealership people can work with.
ShawnS: Hey dude! I didn't realise it was you! Ha Ha! spOOln: Oh, I do realise the lack of track performance, and Nea has gotten a lot of crap for that. My car isn't the comparison point, (thanks for pointing out how slow my car is) as I've driven 11 second cars before, (know who Steve Melson is?) but a 400 flywheel hp car is a decently quick street car. That's all I was saying. |
MPREZIV, yeah, sorry, I didnt meant to dis you, I was just trying to get a point across. Whos steve melson? Have they dyno'd the Z? I hate to believe people that have no proof. People can say things so easily. Back about two/three years ago, I was the only car running around with an upgraded turbo and FMIC at the "street races" and people would start coming up to me asking if it was true that I ran "10s".

So you run 10's right?

NEAC's Z has a supercharger setup with the FMIC that's supposed to increase HP at the flywheel, according to the manuf., by around 30%. It hasn't been on a dyno, so none of us REALLY know for sure.
Steve Melson has a black 91 300zx tt, with a dyno proven 500 REAR WHEEL HORSES. He runs 11.20 at Fallon. I've worked on and driven his car, and it's rediculously fast. I was just sayin that I do know what a fast car fells like. The blown 350 is sitting still compared to Steve's car. It hasn't been out for a while, but the plates say "ZXRATED" and it's a fast mo fo! spOOln, no hard feelings bro! The NEAC Z is a decently quick car, but I'm not one of these street racing punks who WAY over estimates everything, and I know that it's not the fastest thing in the world by a LONG SHOT! Ha Ha! |
Oh, while I'm thinking about it, and since it came up, Steve's Z is being rebuilt now with a 3.3 stroker, around 30psi, and a 200 wet shot as we speak. Jim Wolf Engineering is building him a custom ECU, and say that he should be around 1,000 flywheel hp with his new setup.
Somewhere deep down inside of myself, I really hate Steve. Yes, I'm jealous. Sorry to bump. Back on topic, frankly I hate to take my car ANYWHERE to have work done. I don't even like the dealership really! "Who do I trust? Me! That's who!" -Tony Montana |

I have too say this again  1/4 miles for pussies :P

Anywho, yeah, I think I know what 300z youre talking about. I saw him running mid/low 12s in fallon last time I saw him. This was, wait, 3-4 years ago? No doubt that hes probably made improvments. All of his tuning equipment is in the glove compartment? Total sleeper? Yeah. Id like to see it when its done. |
TOTAL SLEEPER! From a third person pov, the car looks totally stock! He doesn't even have loud exhaust or anything. If one were to open the hood though, it's very obvious where all the money has gone.
|
Yeah, I want to see this thing. You know this guy? Hook me up.
|
One of the guys at the local meet I went to tonight had a 592whp STi. You guys need to step it up. :p

1/4 Miles are fun too guys =P. No need to be haters about 1/4 mile. Both take skill to be truly good at. One takes tuning,(at 1/4 highest levels when the amount of money stops playing a role)shifting, and reactions. The other obviously is a whole different game and you know what it takes to be good. I could say you guys are all pussies though because unless its off road then it don't mean shit. What it comes down to, is that we all have our own likes and dislikes, and frankly it is nothing more than personal preference.

Beg to differ. You can throw money at a car to make it turn lower and lower times. You get to a point where you can't go faster or you can't finish a hot lap when you keep throwing money at a track car without increasing skill to keep up.
Meaning, I can take a car, build a 10 second motor, tune it with mediocre skill and run 12s. Then I can spend another small fortune for an 8 second motor, tuned it half assed, and run 10s. Whereas with a track car, I can make it run 1:45 at Seca, then drop 10k into the motor and suspension on top of that, and not go any faster my next time out without driver improvement, if I can even keep the shiny side up with such an increase in raw potential from the car. Point is, any schmuck can keep going faster with more money in drag racing. But he hits a wall (figuratively, hopefully) out on a racetrack. |
