Private RFR Track day - interest?
I just got a message from a friend up here that does the Audi track days. He has arranged with TNL a private day. It is full as of right now.
However, he told me that if you schedule it on a weekday, you only need 6 entries to reserve the track at a cost of $225 each through TNL. THis also gives you the sign-off for Sunday Test and Tune. Maybe we should check with Eileen Thomas if this is possible for an SECCS track day. My friend ended up with around 10 total for the day. If you can imagine that just means a huge amount of track time, probably more than we or our cars could take. |

Assuming I get it back sooner than later, I intend on getting as much track time as budget and weather allow, just to try and salvage this year's driving season. |
10 cars total on track all day for $225? That sounds too good to be true. What about flag workers, do we have to pay extra for them?
|
Let's DOOIT! DOOOITDOOOIT!

I may still go, but I have no tires right now. |
I can't do any more track days until I get some brake rotors :(
Is there a time limit on this deal, or can we just reserve the track any time for $225 per person? |
Ok I just got the lowdown.
The price was $225/person as long as 6 minimum attend. There are NO Flaggers with the assumption that a small a group only requires the start shack to see what is going on. It also assumes that everybody driving knows each other, is courteous and careful etc. Obvioulsy if the group increases to a certain size, flag workers would be required. This was a deal he negotiated, but he felt confident we could do it as well. It must be an available weekday - no weekends. He is currently doing this with eight confirmed reservations. I think I would feel comfortable out there without flags if it were 10 or less of us. No run groups! Track is open for as much driving as you can take from 8am - 4 pm. Instruction provided as requested Sign off for Test tune available as well. Sounds kind of fun to me although I can't imagine there would be no Flaggers, especially if the top section is open. I suppose a call to TNL is in order. |
I just put a call in to find out more specifics from TNL. I should have more detail by the end of the week.

I have to miss the last solo2, so I'm definitely open to alternatives. . .
|
I would be up for this for sure, but only with a handful of you crazy assholes. (specifically: those of you I've run with before)
|
I'd be interested. Just think of me as a rolling chicane on the straight. :p
|
this sounds like it could be a fuggin blast....
|
man I have got to get tires!!!!
|
What's the course like? I'm still a track noob.
|
Man, that would make for an AWESOME track day! 10 cars, and all day to play? Badass.

I just got off the phone with ET (Eileen Thomas of TNL). The deal is true. $225 per person on any open Monday thru Thursday event. We get the whole track as long as we have a minimum 6 people. It includes instructors and unlimited track time. She recommended and I agree to wait a few weeks for the whole track to be open. She did caution that an event like this should not include people without track experience as they would not be allowed on the upper portion of the track. Not that they can't attend, it just makes coordination a little more difficult as they would probably create run groups (2) - still not bad as we and our cars will require some down time (at least I will require it for me).
She said they probably would try to have a couple stations with flaggers to coordinate between the far ends and upper track. So let's start thinking about a date. This can be anyMonday thru Thursday including next year. Although I imagine fees may rise a tad due to all the new track. |

I'd be interested, but being a track noob, I don't know if it'd work for me this time around.
|
I should be ready to go sometime late nov/dec. From their schedule it looks like the first event on the top section will be october 9th.

Doesn't anyone remember that for the last few years, it's been snowing in November, right? |

Yah that should make the technical section fun! I agree with Scott though, unless we do it fairly soon, this may be a spring option. However, if everyone if fairly flexible for last minute calls, we may be able to set one up during a "nice" weather spell this winter. We do get those nice days even in December. I'll find out from TNL how much notice they need to schedule. |

I totally forgot about the snow situation. |
Well, even if this doesn't happen this year, I think it is a great track day option with the whole track and just a few of us out there.
|
I'd be interested as I need to dial in my new 3 link/panhard rod coil over rear suspension and my brake bias w/ my new c5 z06 brakes.
Please advise on possible dates. |
Do it soon, lets get a day soon and just friggin do it. Any Monday or Friday is good for me. Lets try for a friday.

I'll check on the Friday possibility, but she did say Monday through Thursday. Now I just need tyres (for Mike K). |
Oh, okay, then Monday would be better for me. Mid week is tough. Monday would be fine though.
|
monday sucks.

Monday doesn't suck if youre at the racetrack. |

Monday only sucks for me from a "feel guilty from playing on a major work day" standpoint, but since I work for myself, Monday is acceptable.
|
HAHA, I work for myself also, so my weekends are whenever I take them. The only problem I have is that I have never been to a track day event. So, I am a NOOB in that respect.
I am interested. |

I had like 800+ miles at RFR before I did the Audi Club event, and learned more in one day w/ my Audi instructor than those first 800 miles taught me. In fact, I learned so much about how bad my driving was, I was scared all over again about getting out on the track! |
Sorry, I spaced calling today. I will check tomorrow.

Did you guys ever go to this event? TEAM has an event, in case you didn't already know, on October 22-23rd at RFR. Newbies welcome, instructors will be there, etc.. We have a small group right now, but the track will work with us on it. We will, however, have flaggers, etc.. Cost is only $175 for one day, $325 for two days. We'll have a good two plus hours of track time. I might have to change the schedule around a bit, since we only have on novice group driver signed up so far (but he has two track days already, so I might squeeze him in the intermediate group). Details are at www.team-racing.org and the current December drivers list is at www.onemain.com/~bonster/december.html The Corvette driver in group C can't make it, so there really is only one person in novice group right now. Signups close a week from today, so let me know asap if you are interested.

No I kind of dropped the ball on this one due to all the stuff I am obligated for this month.
