Sad news about one of our memebers: LetItRev

http://news.rgj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/ar...603040322/1002

Franz (LetItRev) was out snowboarding, celebrating is 40th Birthday a few days ago and hit a tree. He passed on from the resulting injuries.

Franz didn't show up to every meet, but he is someone I'd consider a regular. He'd show up whenever his work as a DJ or volunteer Firefighter allowed him to.

As a club, I think we should take up a collection for his wife and daughter, to help with the expense of the funeral or whatever they might need. I don't know how to set something like that up, so hopefully someone else can help out in that area. I will edit this post as necessary, but for now lets take a moment to remember Franz.

Edit: SECCS is taking donations for Franz's family via our PayPal account. If you'd like to help, please send to paypal@seccs.org. Any amount is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

sybir 2006-03-04 10:14 AM

Rest in peace, buddy :(

I still can't beleive this :(

DARKSTI 2006-03-04 10:58 AM

wow, seems like a lot of people have died from skiing/snowboarding this year. Best wishes to his family. :(

Joeyy 2006-03-04 11:15 AM

I can check with North Tahoe Fire to see how we can help or if they have any family contact. He was a cool guy and I wish I got to know him better.

JonnydaJibba 2006-03-04 11:21 AM

Whoa, that's intense.

ArthurS 2006-03-04 11:24 AM

I got the call from his wife's (Kim) friend Thursday night about his passing. She is very broken down right now which is completly understandable. I will keep in touch with her and get the details about the service and anything we can do to help. I have their contact information if we would like to do something for his family or if can offer any assistance.

He was a great friend and he will be missed dearly.

Forgotten 2006-03-04 12:16 PM

Wow, it's just unbelievable how this can happen. He was a very cool guy to me, best wishes to his family and keep us updated.

JC 2006-03-04 12:25 PM

That's horrible, he was always such a great guy. RIP man.

BOO 2006-03-04 01:00 PM

WOW Thanks for calling me and letting me know about this ART. our prayers are with him and his family..

khail19 2006-03-04 01:06 PM

RIP Franz...you will be missed.

Dean 2006-03-04 02:58 PM

Wow, I'm stunned. Let us know if there is anything we can do for his family. He will be missed.

Kevin M 2006-03-04 03:29 PM

Wow... this is difficult to accept. It's amazingly unexpected. Franz was good people. RIP friend.

MattR 2006-03-04 04:52 PM

Again, I'm speechless from the news and hope that there is something that we as a club can do to help the family of our friend. Very sad news.

doubleurx 2006-03-04 04:56 PM

That is absolutely awful. He was a great guy. Our thoughts are with his family. You will be missed Franz!

tysonK 2006-03-04 05:31 PM

Such horrible news. I can say that I looked forward to his thoughts on stuff about radio and all kinds of interesting subjects. My heart goes out to his loved ones.

sperry 2006-03-04 06:07 PM

This is some terrible news. Franz was a good guy, and came around quite a bit when his schedule allowed. Things will certainly be different without him around. :(

We'll miss you man, RIP.

Art, please let me know where to send any donations, and whether or not the SECCS paypal address can be used to help coordinate.

MikeK 2006-03-04 07:07 PM

R.I.P. Franz

When Kim calls me back, I will see if we can set something up for her and her daughter and if we might be able to help with the service in any way.

Ezdno 2006-03-05 12:46 AM

My god, that it terrible news, sorry to hear about this loss. I never knew him but that hits very close to home.

sonicsuby 2006-03-05 02:46 AM

It sucks to think how easy it is for a life to end.

I only met Franz once and we had a blast. We were at the Peppermill with a group of SECCS members - 2-something-am and talking all kinds of shit at the black jack tables while Nick got owned by the house for listening to us. Franz was hilarious

RIP :(

kidatari 2006-03-05 04:01 AM

I didn't know him, but Rest in Peace Franz :( My thoughts are with his family.

dknv 2006-03-05 10:39 AM

No words can convey the sorrow I feel for the loss of his life, and for his family right now. RIP Franz.

zpeed 2006-03-05 10:43 AM

He live close by my house. He always say hi to me when I walk by. I gonna miss him :(

sti deede 2006-03-05 11:37 AM

His service is going to be thursday this week. Kim is unsure of what time, but she will tell me as soon as she knows. Scott and Matt will organize a donation fund which hopefully will be able to help Kim. She and Franz have been togeather since highschool, so she could use our help in many ways.

Franz died of a heart attack not due to injuries. His family has had a long history of heart problems, and after he hit the tree, he had a heart attack that took his life.

sonicsuby 2006-03-05 12:47 PM

My dad called and told me there was a story about what happened in the Sac Bee and the Chico Tribune today. I can't find the story on the Sac Bee website.

sperry 2006-03-05 12:50 PM

SECCS is taking donations for Franz's family via our PayPal account. If anyone wants to donate, simply paypal to paypal@seccs.org. Any amount is greatly appreciated, as it will help Franz's family through this difficult time. We will make sure your gift gets to Kim. Thanks in advance to those that help out.

Also, the service is planned for this coming Thursday. Art will post the details as soon as time and location are known.

sp00ln 2006-03-05 07:28 PM

Wow... I cant believe this. :(

MPREZIV 2006-03-05 08:45 PM

that is awful. i don't know what to say. i met him once, and he came off immediately like an awesome guy. super friendly, outgoing. wow.

our wishes for his family.

sperry 2006-03-06 03:24 PM

I want to thank those that have donated. We're already up to $450. Thanks everyone.

MattR 2006-03-06 04:51 PM

Yep, at $655 and climbing, thanks guys, every bit will help.

Dean 2006-03-06 05:02 PM

What else can we do? Did they get his car back from the ski area, etc...

ArthurS 2006-03-06 10:18 PM

Okay, Kim called and gave me the information of the service.

It will be Thursday at 10:00am and service starts at 11am. Reception is at Kims house after the service. The service will be held at:

Mountain View Mortuary on 425 Stoker Ave near Mi Casa Too in NW Reno. If anyone wishes to speak there they can.

If anyone wishes to contact Kim, I can give you here contact information or address.

SlickNick112 2006-03-06 11:05 PM

I had the honor of talking with Franz a couple times, he truly was a good man. Way easy to talk to.

RIP.

You're in a much better place now. Keep an eye out for us, as you know your family will be taken care of.

ScottyS 2006-03-08 05:32 PM

Oh no. Franz was the one that got me here in the first place. He was indeed a class guy in the prime of his life. If I was not in Chicago right now I would be at the service tomorrow. This is horrible news.

sperry 2006-03-08 05:51 PM

Speaking of the service, nKoan and I will be unable to attend. Nick just got sent to Oregon for work, and I will have to be in the office.

For those that are able to go, please express our condolences.

Also, we're at about $800 in donations for Franz's family. It will take a few days to get the money from our PayPal account to the bank account, and I'd like to try to get a check to Kim early next week, so we'll be taking donations for only a few more days.

Thank you so much to all those that have donated. Even though money can't even approach lessening the hurt that those close to Franz feel, I hope we can at the least make a difference in the unexpected costs that Kim must be dealing with.

dustinr 2006-03-09 01:34 PM

Oh my God! I'm in complete shock!

I had not heard about this till just reading the link.

We weren't close friends, but I managed to run into him it seems on a weekly basis and we always hit it off. He was a very genuine and nice guy and will be missed.

God Speed Franz...

Duckie 2006-03-09 02:27 PM

Although I never met Franz if you people think he is a good guy then he IS a good guy. I like to think of you guys as more of a family unit than anything (not to me yet, since ive only been to one meet, but to each other you sure are.) and from the one time I met up with you guys you were awesome and pretty nice considering I was and still am just some punk ass kid. I can honestly say my life will probably not be as full as it would have been had I met and gotten to cherish some time with Franz while he was still with us.

ArthurS 2006-03-09 02:42 PM

They had a video at the service of a bunch of pictures of Franz. Dean brought up a good idea to have the video hosted on here for awhile. The guy that organized the video is going to send it to me in a few days.

The service was beautiful even though it was very difficult for me. Seeing him for the last time was quite hard. Rest in peace good buddy, thanks for all the memories and always being there for me.

skimonkey30 2006-03-09 03:00 PM

The EMT guys in the ambulance I rode in yesterday (yes I had a slight accident skiing at alpine meadows) knew him very well and had nothing but nice things to say about him.

RIP franz you will be missed

Let me know when you get the video, I can give you access to the FTP server to upload it to the gallery for hosting.

I'm glad the service was nice. I wish I could have made it.

Seeing his wife and daughter and family members, and hearing his family and friends speak about him were quite hard for me. And quite wonderful as well, to learn about the different ways he made this world a better place by having been here.

I knew he had done the volunteer firefighter work, and that he had his mobile DJ business, but I didn't realize the kind of influence or impact he had. Seeing all of the firefighters with their company trucks (several North Shore agencies) show up, along with all of the people who were there amazed me - but I was glad to be surprised to realize that is the product of a person who touched other people's lives in such a good way. And I'm sure there are lots of others too, like Scott & Nick, who couldn't be there due to location or work or some other obligation.

Man, I'm really feeling bad about not being there. :( I had a release to get out at work and that windshield replacement to deal with... but I really should have just blown it all off and gone.

Debbie makes a great point about how many people one person can touch. Think about how many people are here because Franz told them about the club? How many more people have showed up because of the people those people have helped join? I know I didn't see Franz outside of the club that much, but some of my closest friends are a result of Franz's willingness to make friends with anyone he met driving a Subaru.

I'm glad some SECCS people were there to represent the club and thank Franz for what he's done for us.

Dean 2006-03-09 04:13 PM

SECCS was well represented. myself, Art, Debbie, Eric, Mike H, and I'm not sure who all was with him.

Huge crowd in general. the room was packed. He touched a lot of people and will be missed.

Nick Koan 2006-03-09 04:37 PM

I'm really sorry I was unable to attend. I'm glad to hear the service was good. It is heartwarming to at least hear about it.

JC 2006-03-09 04:39 PM

I wish I could have made it out, but obviously distance preculded me. I'm glad some of you guys went though.

Shawn came with also. It was a good showing of the SECCS guys and the club was mentioned during a speech as one of his favorite past times. He did have a huge effect on many people's lives. I was also amazed at the amount of support there for him through the fireman and police officers, other DJ's, the SECCS crew, friends, and family. I am glad to know that Kim and Amber will be able to have a lot of support for the difficult times they are enduring.

That's great to hear that so many people came to show their support and pay repects. I could not get out of work in time this morning to make it but I'm very happy to hear the service went so well.
